Launcher keeps downloading

Recommended Posts

Normally, you'd launch GW2 with the following option, but it's been broken/disabled for weeks:

-assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com

As a workaround, you have to:

Open a command prompt (search the start menu for cmd) and enter:

nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8

Copy one of the addresses (it changes every few days). It's currently:

52.202.245.40

Search the start menu for notepad, right click it and run it as an administrator. In notepad, open:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

At the bottom, add the following line, substituting the current IP you found:

52.202.245.40 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Save it and launch GW2. Remember to remove the line when you're done.

It will endlessly download the file over and over because what it downloaded isn't what it expected. This problem can be caused by the patch server, in which case the above would fix it, or by something else (other software or your ISP).

First, confirm the hosts edit by repeating the steps, but using 127.0.0.1 for the IP. This should cause GW2 to fail to connect. If it fails as expected, change the IP to 34.239.19.127 and try again. Next, delete Local.dat (found under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and optionally under Documents/Guild Wars 2/), then try again - this will cause GW2 to "refresh" what it needs to download.

If it's still stuck, launch GW2 with the options "-log -image -patchconnections 1", let it sit for a few minutes, then check Gw2.log for details, found under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/.

Works now.

You're a star for helping out.

Launcher stay s at 100% without restarting to download that stupid file.

When i delete the extra line from the hosts file it stays at 100%.

Thanks again for the great help.

I had the same problem aswell, couldn't get it to work but i figured it out. I was adding the # on the line like it was on the other lines in the host file. Don't do that, just add this: 34.239.19.127 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com without the # at the start
