Not new, that's the mechanic for capturing the temple. Been there since launch.

Pretty sure that was added when they revamped risen foes and the temple bosses a bit in early 2013, not since launch, but yes it's been there for quite some time.

That spot was added so it was possible to progress on certain legendary collections, around 2015-2016.

Could have sworn I saw another dead body while completing "Speaker of the Dead" in the cave where Alastia Crow's spirit is summoned. After the cut-scene the body disappeared though. Before the summoning, Priestess Rhie states, "Follow me to the heart of these caverns, where the barrier to the Mists is thinnest." This would fit the narrative of dead bodies showing up where the barrier between the mists is thin.
