Dear Anet: Medium Armor, Please!

Recommended Posts

Dear Anet,

I know you've heard this 1,000 times before, but please give us some better options for medium armor, preferably all the way through the level spectrum. A lot of us don't want to wear coats, and most of what little isn't coats looks pretty awful. As a player who tends to favor medium armor classes, I've previewed every single piece of medium gear, and the only sets that I find appealing really shouldn't be considered medium armor at all: The sneakthief and assassin's sets. The Brigandine sets and Ascalonian Sentry are the right idea, but their styling is a bit lacking (for my taste). We need more waistcoats, doublets, and (tailless!) jerkins. Please!

Just wondering... male or female?

I have no male characters so I don't know if it differs but there's not a single good medium set up I can get on females. At least humans.

As a female Charr, I really, really, really want to see more medium armors that have no 'skirts' nor coats. I want her to be like an assassin/rogue, where she can easily move and do her acrobatics without the annoyances. Not to mention how much better they look without the 'bulky' armor pieces.

I was secretly hoping that Nika's armor set would look the same on female Charr as it looks on other female races, but nope...same as male model, which is quite frustrating. I want my fur to stand out!

My main issue with medium armor is that it doesn't really fit the professions it's made for.

**Heavy armor** for wariors and guardians is fine - there's little variety there, but both professions fit nicely with the armored soldier look (revenants don't have enough of an identity to matter here, IMO).

**Light armor** is made for a very diverse group of professions, but it has a lot of options. If you want to look like [a witch](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Dry_Bones_armor_human_female_front.jpg) you can, if you would rather look like [a nun](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Devout_armor_human_female_front.jpg) you can go for it, if you want something [very over the top](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Masquerade_armor_human_female_front.jpg) the option is there, if you want something [simpler](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Student_armor_human_female_front.jpg) you can do that too. As long as you are not trying to find pants or plated armor, there are a lot of options for a lot of themes.

**Medium armor**... Is basically a bunch of leather trench coats. It doesn't really fit any of the three professions very much; ranger maybe, but definitely not thief or engineer. It feels like medium armor was designed for a generic Indiana Jones-like adventurer without considering the actual professions that would wear them. The only medium armor that I think really suits thieves is the [snearkthief one](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Sneakthief_armor_human_female_front.jpg), but it has way too much skin showing for me. There's nothing discrete that would fit a character trying to use stealth to move around; I miss something like [this](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Assassin_Vabbian_armor_f.jpg) (without, of course, the very over the top blades).

I like it on everything except Charrs and male Norn. It differs greatly.

I was on the same camp of making less trench coats. Then i got the medium legendary armor and tried to find some decent leggings for when i am out of combat...

I could not find anything to make it work except the warbeast one. I guess the reliance on coats made designing for leggings obsolete. I must say i missed the permanent trenchcoat. Now i am more on the camp ¨until there are better pants i am sticking with the trenchcoat.¨

I also would prefer if there were more options for waistcoats or other short tops in medium. At least, though, there are a few. Light-female-legs on the other hand has almost no option for pants. Taken together, I wonder if it's a style intent or design limitations that produce the preponderance of long skirty-taily-capey-longcoaty armor (and outfits, tbh) in this game. As a stylistic reference, I'd much rather they'd stuck closer to the GW armor aesthetic.

Ehh... medium is arguable there... Thief... I kinda agree the trenchcoat doesn't necessarily fit with the theme. Engineer on the other hand... if you're talking welding, most welding jackets are essentially thick and heavy trenchcoats... it makes perfect sense that someone who deals with fire and electricity regularly would want long coats.

I was trying to find a thread to remove the GALL DARN pesky Leave button at the end of the Wintersday Jumping Puzzle and stumbled onto this thread instead which is basically preaching my opinion for the past :ahem: since launch.

Not really that kind of coat, IMO. I could have seen a few designs along [these lines](https://www.rocco.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/steampunk_sketches_a_by_david_nakayama-d4hq89q_editada.png) for those who want a steampunk vibe (the aetherblade armor tries to go for this, but it looks weird, IMO), but steampunk is just one aspect of a technology-based profession. There really aren't armors for a "high tech" theme (like [this](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Auxiliary_Powered_armor_asura_female_front.jpg), for example), or for a holosmith theme, or for a "heavy weapons tech" theme.

Because "Normal pants" and "Normal Shirt" and "Normal Headgear" is T&A.

I should not be seeing NPCs that supposed to look "lame" and going, "Wow, they got awesome clothes on. I wish I could wear those."

Headgear? There's no normal/good headgear in this game on ANY weight as they all make you bald.

And yeah plenty of normal pants, but not tops.
