fighting the Mark II golem in the instance

Recommended Posts

First of, the story is once again nicely progressed, it felt like we get to know more and more about joko and his plans.

i am still having trouble with the final boss in A Kindness Repaid. it feels like its an entire different encounter then what my friends describe. there is no recovery phase, i don't get a timer on the golem and its generally a dull fight. its very tanky and takes a lot of time before its dead. I haven't heard many others but there are a select few that for this reason can't finish the story achievements and the count down isn't starting.

i assume its not something intended but i'd rather ask, since i never got a reply on my bug report.

There's two mechanics that can get in the way of progressing the fight. One is 'taught' before the golem fight; the other might be a bug. If you somehow skip these two mechanics, the fight can still be won; it just takes a lot longer.

The first mechanic is that the story expects the golem to kill the Olmakhan elder. When it does, it triggers a new phase of behavior: at 75%, 50%, 25%, the golem will be stunned, and drop its power core. Hurting the power core is much easier and also causes serious damage to the golem. However, if you do too much damage to the golem too soon, it will get distracted and will never start this phase, slowing the fight enormously.

The second mechanic is the one we learn during the escort part of the instance: you need to break the golem's shielding. This is possible when you destroy the cubes the golem spawns and pick up their unstable cores, which powers up your Special Action Key. Each use of the special action key will destroy one stack of shielding (max is four); subsequent uses will add 25 stacks of vulnerability to the golem. You can still kill the golem without doing this; skipping this similarly slows the fight down.

tl;dr

* Let the golem kill the elder before fighting.

* Focus on "the adds" first to build up your special action key.

* When the golem is stunned, focus on the power cube.

i have tried it all. i've done it alone, with friends, wait till the elder dies, kill golems, try using the special action skill, nothing works. No power core, no shielding, no recover phase, no regen, just his AA balls and occasionally the field expanding from his feet. ofc i know there are mechanics and no shit i thought it was strange not having any dificulty other then the massive amount of time needed to kill the boss. i think i tried fighting it at least 10 times, which 4 would be with friends, and the other times i went in alone, and had to escort the damn cubs to the other side of the village every single time.

You are obviously missing sth. I have even killed it with a condi BS relatively easy that his damage burst is almost nothing.

Things i can think of:

- You have not noticed the shield icon under the golem´s health. It has 4 stacks meaning that you need to hit it 4 times with the special action key before the core comes out.

- His AA balls do not hit you if you are near him.

- You have to tab target the golem before you use the special action key as it is not an AoE but a direct beam.

- In the last phase (25%) the core is pulled back because it no longer has a shield so you can bring it down normally.

it's not me missing something. the encouter is COMPLETELY different. There is NO shield. NO power core. NO phases. NO timer to kill it under 3 minutes since i still can't do the achievement.

i'm not trying to tell ppl the fight is long and boring. i am saying it's dull and uneventful because it literally doesn't do anything other then AA and the field from is position. i am not dieing, but the golem is just slowly dieing. nothing else then me pressing all my skills and seeing 1 % fall off his healthbar in the slowest fucking way possible

From other people reports. There're some bugs that's can happen in that encounter. Make the fight went far too long because the mechanic that damage the boss not pop up.

From what you described here seem like you got a bugged boss-fight.

I got the no-bug fight when I play and it's end pretty quick.// I even got the ap on the first go.

When everyone else tells you that the experience is very different then and that the mechanics are there, there is no real alternative. You are either missing the mechanics or you found a way to trigger a bug that removes them none else knows about. Is it possible to record a run and post it here? If is really a bug that removes the mechanics it would be very useful for the devs to fix. And if you are doing sth wrong then people will be able to tell you what it is.

i appriciate your help, but even with friends opening the story, and them doing all mechanics where solo they were able to have a normal fight with above mentioned mechanics, the instance i joined them on still had a bugged golem.

as @"Takoyakii.2146" mentioned above, it's well possible to be a bugged boss for me, thats why i asked here if they have a fix or if its intended to do nothing like its processor has been fried or something. since it seems to be a rare bug and so far i have encountered 1 other person experiencing this issue.

i can try it again tonight and record the entire story steps a kindness repaid, but its no fun having to do the complete escort and city 11 different times and fighting a golem that is absolute stacked on his toughness but if it helps i'll do so...

I apologize that I was unclear about the golem's shield: it's not something visible as a "shield;" it's just a buff on the bar that mitigates damage to it. There's no "bubble" or anything like that. To the best of my understanding (and in my experience), that buff **always** shows up. If/when the instance bugs, it's specifically because the golem doesn't _phase_ into spitting out defensive cubes, and therefore there's no way to remove the buff. I describe it as "taking down the shield," because that's how the story views it, although we don't actually see a "shield" or bubble or anything visual.

If you aren't seeing any of that, even if you slow down your approach to the final area (after the escort) & even if you wait to attack the golem until after the elder dies... then your best bet is to start a support ticket. Work with ANet, directly.

Everyone I know who has encountered trouble has been able to resolve it by avoiding a rush through the village & letting the golem kill the elder without engaging it. I'm sorry that's not working for you.
