Updating core traits so three interact more strongly than two and one elite is not easy.

If thats the case the anet completely failed with necro as the elite builds should automatically improve when you improve core traits, weapons, in shrouds cases not the mechanic but in most cases all 3 areas will automatically improve any elite spec thrown ontop of it.

Improving core will not directly mean they also need to improve reaper and scourge at the same time as this should generally happen automatically. Core builds are the base house and foundation. Elite specs are additions to the house. Extra rooms or features if you will that are optional. Reworking the base house or its foundations to be better automatically improves the value of any additions attached to it.

Its not easy but its not hard either. Ideally it shouldnt take anymore work than they have done for the mesmer rework or the deadeye rework as not everything needs to be changed.

> Fortunately, shroud has been differentiated between core and elite builds! Reaper and Sand are both heavy on AoE where Death is more focused on single-target damage. Keeping with that theme, it should be possible to add interactions between core trait lines for single-target combat and support; i.e., the old selfish theme, maybe with some new selfish support and sustain.

Core has some aoe its jut not as effective because the skills are outdated and lacking in raw scaling power compared to newely implemented skills that come with reaper, scourge, etc. In fact 4 of the 5 skills in core shroud can hit multiple targets to say its purely focused on single target dps is kind of just false. If that were the case life blast would need to be hitting much more dps on a single target and not being allowed to pierce.

Im not sure if you single target conclusion is a real factor. The fact is the skills and many core traits are just behind in updates and were not made mechanically to keep up with the power creep that has fallen into the game as well as traits that you can find on say (core warrior, ranger, gurdiain, mesmer, etc)

It should be noted how easily it is to interchange non elite trait lines with necro how removing one does not completely destroy your potential to play most builds or its effectiveness by very much as it does for other professions.

Ele without water is dead

Warrior without defense and strength is very rough

Thief without trickery is extremely rough

These are just a few examples that show how strong their trait lines are. The fact of removing one completely handicaps the profession where as with necro you can drop just about any non elite trait line without completely gimping yourself in the foot. Drop spite for blood magic... no problem... Drop soul reaping its rough but its 100% doable. Drop blood magic for something else.. still doable. Necro is not forced into any of its none elite trait lines because none of them are so strong that it shoots you in the foot the moment you remove it.

In other words their core foundation traitlines are shaky. Solid enough to work in the game but still shaky.

Thats the even worse exception where adding in a traitline shoots you in the foot because of how outdated it and the thing its its suppose to boost are.

Most of death magic and its minions are lacking in any QoL back to 2012-2013. Its still game launch material so its no surprise that thats the case when it comes to that.

While i feel death magic has 1 or 2 good things in its entire kit taking those 1 or 2 things is never worth the lackluster minors and other useless tools left when you take it.
