I haven't really encountered this apple-spamming issue myself, except for when the 1-2 hot meta-chain guilds have their tag-party finale in AB.

The most common use of mentor tags that I've seen is non-comm players helping to mark locations of activities (event chains, bounties, escorts, coffee skritts, jp porters, etc), most of which I feel fall within or are closely associated to the stated purpose of the mentor concept. Most of the time, you just need a rally point for players. The mentor tag is a pragmatic qol that should be left alone in this regard, imo

>

> You talk as if Anet didn’t intend its current behaviour.

You aren't using a mentor tag to form a small squad, but using a mentor tag while in a small squad. How does that Anet quote answer my question of why someone who chooses to mentor say 5-9 ppl to do some event must not be allowed to be part of the 10man squad? Why do you limit mentoring solely to being a Q&A light bulb?

What is it to you if someone who was mentoring a content used a mentor tag to guide a 10man squad? “The tag and badge will make it easier for Guild Wars 2 players who take pride in helping others to reach out.” isn't a mentor leading a small team of new players to do a content part of reaching out?

How would allowing a mentor tag to be used in a 10er even affect you, or the exclusive prestige of a comm tag.

Like you said, forget it, back to the OT, which was already answered.

Back in my day we had one commander tag. And it was blue. No fancy hippy dippy lots of Colours tags. And you liked it, you loved it. And if multiple commanders all stacked their blue tags in the same spot you didn’t know who your commander was anymore and followed around some stranger all night not knowing the difference. And you liked it, you loved it. And if your guild leader said to you in TS hey man why are you on the wrong borderland we are defending ebg. You said to him, “ my bad bro, lol”. And you liked it, you loved it.

Clearly says both types require 250 Badges of Honor .. AFAIK they're only obtainalbe in WvW .. ergo only for PVPers.

Where am I wrong?

And to answer someone else, yes I know WvW and PVP are different forms of 'player versus player', I saw no point in being pedantic since they're both the same game type to me, one which I don't do.

Which is why many LFG comments say how many comms there are! Yes, squads aren't necessary but large numbewrs of players look for them when deciding which map to join for stuff like DS, etc.

You get Badges of Honour from achievement chests. Once you get 1,000 achievement points you will have 300 Badges of Honour and need never have set foot in WvW.

The fact that Badges of Honor also comes from achievement reward chests. Ergo, just play some PvE for achievement points and you can buy it without even entering a wvw map. (Vendors are available in pve cities as well)

I have over 10k APs (not stellar I know but not trivial either), I don't recall seeing any in the reward loot.

Well, they are there.

Okay, seems it's my bad though I was misled by this info about the Badges:

"Badges of Honor are a currency earned by participating in World versus World."

I saw the list in 'obtained by' but assumed they were WvW things due to the first sentence. I know there are hidden achievements and presumed they were still hidden to me since I don't WvW.

They are primarily earned by and spent in World versus World but with 10,000 AP you should have somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 of them.

Do dailies and/or other achievements. Some of the AP chests give you badges. Or just zerg in WVW once or twice and you will end up with plenty of the things.

I wound up with more than enough badges before I had even one AP chest. I still do not know where it came from since I am a PVE person, all I can figure out is I joined a WVW zerg one day.

I wanted them to take a cue from other games actually and just give everyone a dot on the map/minimap (which you already have for guildmates, squads, parties, and pets). In PVE at least, most of the time what you want to go to is where the other people on the map are. It would be less of an incentive for glory tags because everyone would have a marker on the map anyway.

You need to compare what you got for 100g(a blue icon) compared to what you get for 300g today. The cost to me is justified plus you got all the benefits free from just purchasing the original.

that's even worse... already having trouble seeing gathering nodes and chests on the mini map while in squad, that's why i never join squad for palawadan

Some events .... but for most you do not know exactly where they are. Especially if the location or time moves.

As to no dots hopefully they would make it a map preference like they have done with other things on it.

This was one time that Anet was somewhat generous. They announce the proposed change to the commander tags before the actual change so I had time to pay 100g and still receiving the current version.
