I've been away a very long time.

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Once upon a time, I played this game some. Not much, and probably not for long enough. At the time I played a Human Guardian for a bit, then a Norn Warrior, then a Human Elementalist before finally settling on a Sylvari Necromancer. This was at least five years ago, and right at the moment I'm in a bit of a lull regarding games to play, so I thought I'd give this one another look.

Generally when go to a new game that is established,, or returning to an old MMO after some time, I like to map out some goals, so while the client downloads, I'd like to ask a few questions, and discuss some things.

1. I'm not likely to continue the Necromancer, though I will regret deleting it so I won't. I've done my share of spellcasting elsewhere, and it's currently not my flavor. I did enjoy it at the time, having a small army of minions just annihilating everything in front of me while I sat back and cast dots and blasts. But now I seek something more...physical.

2. How's Warrior these days? I remember having a bit of trouble, but a lot of that came down to not being effectively careful. I'm looking to get up close and bloody; I'm not looking to be a meatshield.

3. I'm not sure if my Norn Warrior got deleted or not. I remember having one, but I may have axed it. If I have, then my question is: Norn, or Charr? there are pros and cons to both; I'm a fan of Nornic individualism, but not their tendency to recklessly answer challenges. I like the tough, Romanesque quality of the Charr, but not some of their collectivism. Ultimately, it is a contest between Fire & Ice as themes, with the Charr being Fire and the Norn being Ice.

4. How does one go about dealing with Expansion content? Meaning, do I have to, should I choose to, buy both expansions, or are they both bundled under the Path of Fire expansion as other MMOs tend to do? Does anyone know if Gamestop sells codes to do so? Can you pay in Gems? I don't use credit cards or bank cards, preferring external cards or at most, gift cards.

5. Should I even bother getting into expansion content? If so, when should I start?

6. How's the world content these days? How's crafting?

7. If I do decide to simply wipe everything (sans the Necromancer) and start over, any servers I should think about joining? I occasionally dabble in RP, if that's a thing people do here.

That's all. I hope I'm welcome back. See you out there!

If you want physical and have a Necromancer consider getting HoT and playing Reaper.

Warrior and the elite specializatiobs for it are strong.

Buying the expansions is seperate.

World content is much better than it used to be in living world and expansions.

Server won’t matter unless you WvW with the current tech behind the multi server open world maps.

Never delete older characters if only for the sweet sweet loot you get on b-days. Even better if they're not max level, you can save your champ bags to open on those characters for lower level loot that salvages into low-mid tier materials that can be worth a nice bit of pocket change or else to increase your own coffers for crafting.

Not to belabor a point: I very much want to play Warrior. I'm not looking to play Necro in any capacity. But I'll keep the advice given in mind. Thanks a bunch!

If you want an example of how long it's been since I played, the last time I was on, Scarlet Briar was in the midst of raising chaos in the Shiverpeaks and there were events with a gigantic version of her waving at players while they killed wave upon wave of dredge.

Don't delete any character just yet, guild wars 2 is miles different when you install any of the 2 expansions and also offers different specialisation for all classes so that you can also enjoy different playstyles within the same profession.

I highly recommend in getting both expansions if possible:

-Heart of Thorns is an amazing expansion with challenging content, fun grand-scale meta events, raids, fantastically designed maps and gliding.

-Path of Fire also similar, casual-tone challenging content, fun open bounty-hunts, more meta events, amazing large maps designed for exploration with MOUNTS. If anything, even if you're iffy about this expansion, for me, the mounts is just justifiable for this expansion purchase especially as mounts are usable for all tryia not just the ones unlockable with path of fire. really helppss for map completions =)/.

If you buy any expansion, depending on the package, it can also include a level 80 boost scroll so you don't need to ponder too much with the character creation part, which profession to pick or endgame viability. You will be able to try any profession out at lvl 80 straight away and test them out before deciding to make the level 80 boost on said character permanent.

Welcome back!

1. Necro has seen two very nice elite specializations mix its game play up. Just keep the character for now

2. Warrior is absolutely where it is at for you. Both Berserker and Spellbreaker as well as base warrior work and should deliver in what you are looking for. The class works in any content.

3. Make both, othewise I personally prefer Norn over Charr but that's just me

4. Not bundled automatically though you can buy them as bundles. If money is not an absilute issue, get both. The amount of content you get for their price is absilutely worth it

5. Both expasnions come with a level 80 boost. Depending on when or if you decide to use it you can start immediately or not. Many people like olaying through the fist PoF mission just to get the first mount (gets unlocked account wide) , requires a level 80. You yould use your necro if you want to save the 80 boosts

6. Crafting hasn't changed but prices are way down so it is quite cheap. World content has multiple maps and meta events going on constantly

Gl and hf

Keep your necro for birthday gifts. Reaper does get a 2h sword for that hack n slash style play, but otherwise park it and log it once a year and grab your birthday reward since it is character specific.

Expansions are pretty much pointless unless u are level 80.

To be honest i csn only really echo what is wtitten above for everything else
