Also remember you can change your server anytime you like later on, given the server you transfer to isn't fully populated. This will cost you some gems (can be bought with real money or you can convert the in-game currency), but just playing the game will get you the sum needed fairly quick.

Like was mentioned earlier servers only really differentiate in the gamemode of WvW (else all servers meet on one superserver so it don't matter where you come from), so you might want to check this in case you're gong to play that in the future (my advice is to pick a server within tier 1-4, as this will guarantee good player coverage and activity whenever you play WvW, but if not you will be paired with one of these every 2 months anyway so no worries if you are in lower tiers :) ) :

But if you're just starting the game, absolutely any server will do. Better to change server later when you know which your guild/friends are on. There's also a plan in the works to delete all servers and make your guild decide what WvW server you end on not too far in the future, so do not worry about this choice having too much of a consequence. Just pick a server , and play the game to your hearts content, as you will get the exact same experience and meet the same players as everyone else do regardless of server choice. When the time comes for you to enter WvW, you will have enough wealth and knowledge to know which server suits you best and make the jump. You might find the one you are already on is perfect ;)

Perfect advice. This is what a couple of us did when we were forming our WvW guild. Landed in Sorrows Furnace.

Hi

Are you familiar with a checklist?

If not, it is where you have a list of something. In this case, let it be the quality of server you like.

sample, mine is:

1. people who do voip

2. not derp on builds but willing to experiment and or change if requested to try.

3. has population on my timezone - roamers, scouts, fellow groups running and leading

4. international community

timezone - wvwstats.com most active on your time - you should check.

recommending - tier 2 to tier 4 servers.

but do your research with your own checklist.
