alchemist.6851
About a month ago i slowly started on a mirage build because it was sounding so good (i already had a chrono). With the current nerf, should i still build it? or is it better of some other class?
Vieux P.1238
It don't matter no more. It's trash ... play something else.
Solori.6025
Move on to thief or ranger, you'll be much happier for the next 3 months
apharma.3741
Sure play mirage if you want to play a condition damage build and don't mind if everyone hates you but only really excel in a 1v1 in PvP. If you want to play power then... Play holo, insane damage, insane regen, good mobility, ranged and melee damage and can deal with conditions alright without needing to invest. If you feel like you want some kind of superiority play rev as it has a little bit more risk but it's still pretty bonkers strong. Or jump on board the soulbeast wagon and proceed to faceroll across the map without caring. Though you might want to say which game mode and what you want to do. SteepledHat.1345
You can still play it, but honestly you have to be used to being the punching bag. Community hates you, devs constantly nerf you, skill ceiling is quite higher than average. It's not best starting out, but we all seem to play it because we love it. Xstein.2187
It is not just about todays nerfs. The gw2 wiki on mesmer specifically states "They weave deception magic that seeks to confound, disorient and dumbfound their enemies." This shouldn't be a problem at a glance. However, the main problem comes in when most people don't like getting confused or disoriented. This makes them complain. Therefore, if Anet treats their company like a democracy, the mob will always want mesmer to be underbalanced. If you like playing a class that messes with the mind of your opponent, do NOT play gw2 right now. In PVE, on the other hand, the only role of mesmer is providing quickness and alacrity. They can not, nor should not, provide a meta dps role right now because of PvP reasons with phantasms, clones, and shatters. Although a new elite spec may change that, this is at least months and a whole living story away. Now, again, at a glance this may not look like a problem. However, here the problem lies in the fact that signet of inspiration made mesmer better at providing every boon in the game. However, instead of focussing SoI on just one or two boons, they simply nerfed the whole thing. SoI isn't just important in the fact that it increases quickness and alacrity duration (ug just found out it's a flat out 5 sec). It is also important because it is the only way to provide those boons without forcing player to stand in a little 240 radius. In the dynamic environment of raids and fractals it's not just that players have a hard time all standing in a 240 radius, it's also that it is often impossible to do because Anet stated before that they wanted to try to force players not to stack-go figure. Anet could have compensated for this by increasing the radius of well of action from 240 to 600 to match SoI, but they didn't, and won't, because of all the flashy effects the wells bring with them. The scary thing isn't what they just did this patch, but what they have been doing for quite a while now. It's also not just what they do. It is also why they do it, which is really not that hard to infer based on the patches.
Gulbasaur.1865
Honestly? I really enjoy mirage. It suffers a little bit from the mesmer "complete clusterfunk of different ideas" problem, but the core torment and confusion mechanics get you a long way. They differ in style of play from chronomancers in that, with viper's gear, if you stand still you _die_, so evade, distort and teleport all over the place. The damage output is solid in PvE and PvP. It's a condi class, so you either whir through a group of mobs inflicting as much damage as possible then move onto the next one and circle back round if things are still alive or let things stack up on a boss, using your clones for extra DPS (you have a reason to keep them around as they can ambush if you take a trait, which is pretty solid and applies condition damage for most builds) and meatshields. You're a bit squishy, but the evades, jaunts and distortion reduce that considerably. Also, you'd be surprised how many people won't know it's you and not a clone if you autoattack for a few chains while waiting for recharges. Axes of Symmetry can be used defensively like that as it makes it harder to tell which is you when you move with your clones. Doesn't work in PvE but against human beings there's a moment of doubt which can give you time to pop a heal and stealth when you need to. Jaunt can be used offensively and defensively in all game modes. It's no longer overpowered, but it's still powerful. Everyone's a bit salty after the patch that playing with a chronomancer is no longer like putting the game in easy mode, but mirages are still fun to play. TorQ.7041
Meh. Play inspiration. A/T, S/P. Condi dmg still massive. A ton of clones. Reflect on dodge. Blink, still 2 jaunts when stunned, still distortion, torch 4 invis, torch 5 aoe daz, pistol daze, evade on sword 2,. Sign of midnight for added Condi dmg and clutch invun and invis. The biggest nerf was portal. Being 2 places at once was just stuipd tbh. Staff build still meta. 1 jaunt isn't much of a big deal tbh. There's almost 2 nerf to the actual damage. Just lace em with Condi. Dance around till they die.
