Announcing things like game updates/news (this one is for Anet)

Recommended Posts

This is one for Arenanet...

Last week we got several updates, announcements (SAB/loot change/something with starting playing game again and probably tons I missed) and this all ends up in the discussions part of the forum. This way I already managed to miss some important news. Especially since there are so many topics in the discussion daily and its terribly easy to get lost in the pile. What is the reason for not using the correct part of the forum for this? Like "news and announcements"? This is where such info always used to go to.... If it has to do with forum permissions, then let 1 person take care of posting the info. Like Gaile used to do in past.

Thanks in advance!

Clearly, ANet is experimenting with different ways of delivering news. I'm happy to see them keep trying to nail the happy medium.

The current situation is better than no news, better than just posting on guildwars2.com. Even though it's not as good as I've been expecting to see since before launch, I applaud their efforts to keep trying to find the right tools.

Here's what I'd like to see.

* Paste anything published at guildwars2.com as a locked post to the [News & Announcements](https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/categories/news-and-announcements) folder

* Paste a specific excerpt to [Twitter](

) & [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2/) (linking the original)

* Paste the same excerpt to [Guild Wars 2 Discussion](https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/categories/guild-wars-2-discussion), to create a neutral discussion thread for the topic.

* Paste the same excerpt to [r/guildwars2](http://old.reddit.com/r/guildwars2) with the same link.

* Include the same excerpt in the logon screen.

Theoretically, that ensures maximum exposure with the least effort. I think virtually all of this can be scripted, if the initial document "authored" properly. (Set it up correctly initially and, I believe, the effort will pay off dividends over time.)

Currently, ANet depends on fan volunteers to make the above happen and, in this day and age, that shouldn't be necessary. Plus, some of us have our own agenda and own spin when we post. Thus not everything gets communicated effectively or appropriately.
