Work in Arena Net

Hello! I caught myself, that I started think about how great it was - participate in the creation and expansion of Tyria. In fact, I thought about it since my first month exploring this world and I was amazed by his fullness and attention to detail, which was not anywhere else! I had an idea that I would like to join those, who are working on Tyria's creation. Many years have passed and I decided to move in this direction deliberately. I decided to create this discussion to find out, what the company's requirements for new employees - artists and 3D modelers. I realistically assess my artist skills, which are insufficient, but I want to have a goal and move towards it. Thank you for attention, hope to find an answer >;3

Check this page regularly https://www.arena.net/en/careers

Right now there is only a Help Desk position open, but you can look at that to see how thoroughly they will describe the other positions if they open up. Someone here might have archived copies of older listings to give you a roadmap, too. I think there have been a number of Guild Chats (now available on YouTube) where various ANet employees described what their experience was that led to their job there, but that would be hard to just pin down if no one's already indexed them.

I've got several friends who got into the games industry and IMO more than my fair share of experience trying to break into a similarly competitive field and my advice is not to get too attached to getting into a specific company. Take relevant opportunities where you can get them - don't turn down a 3D modelling job because it's not a game you like (most of the time it will probably be a game you haven't even heard of because it's not even been announced yet). Or even if it's not a game at all - if someone's hiring an artist to do graphics for an advert it's still an opportunity to add paid work to your CV and your portfolio.

 

Of course you should be actively looking for jobs you do want and applying to as many as you can, but don't turn down related opportunities just because it's not exactly what you want.

Oh, also Anet has a partner program for artists. I don't know how it works exactly but I'm sure there's info about it online. That might be a good way of getting your work out there, and in front of the right people.

 

It's a long shot, but not entirely unheard of for fan works to lead to a job. Two of those friends I mentioned got their start by making mods for games, and eventually ended up working on some of the same games they made mods for, amongst other things. And even if it doesn't help that directly it's still more stuff for your portfolio and a chance to get your name out there.
