So, I've talked to the norn npc about her lost sword in lornars and did the event and did not get it. Looking at dulfy I needed to do the event before that would be kesseix but still did not get the Lost greatsword. Talked to the norn npc THEN went to kessix and still did not get it. Something broken here?

Dulfy did the guide pretty early. There is a second factor in play: Which reward is up is on a timer. See https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Helpful_Hero for which lost object is coming up. So the map rotation is as Dulfy shows, Kessex > X > Y > etc, but you have to also be in the map before Lornar's in the time slot when the GS drops.

So, should I go to lornars then to do this or does it even matter as long as it's on the timer?

you will at times find info on dulfy to be incorrect, that is because dulfy does not actually do all the contents herself, she get it from players who had done it.and even if the info is incorrect, she does not go back to edit itat the end of the day, her site is just a platform for her to generate passive incomes from ads (smart girl :))
