Maze.3825
In 1920 x1080 respectively - which would be best or are they pretty much neck and neck for our game??
Malediktus.9250
Assuming running them at the same clockspeeds they will probably perform about equal, since GW2 is not using more cores well. A 8700k is just a 7700k with 2 more cores and 4mb more cache. The cache might give a very small fps boost in some situations. If you plan to play other games in future, the 8700k will be the better bet.

Not a waste of money, the game is very much CPU bound. Especially when playing in zergs every little bit of single core performance helps

Fermi.2409
>got clip just to upload it evrything maxed ull see no lagg at all Still waiting on that upload If you're dishing out the money for a 7700k you might as well wait a little bit until motherboards are cheaper and get an 8700k imo. Or just get an 8700k. In either case you're going to do about the same in GW2, but other games/applications might see some advantages from the 8700k
DeWolfe.2174
Neither is needed and either will have more than enough FPS. You really should have the limiter set to 60 anyway.

Fermi.2409
40FPS (aka laggy) while sitting motionless with a lowered FoV, sounds about right to me. Also nice zooming wayyy in and closing the framerate monitor when you run around
dzeka.5317
laggy may ass beleve or noti maxed evrything on settings , no need to lie especialy on this i just wanna tell that cpu ist that much prior as gpu it is important but its not no1. but i would like to see that 144k fps max set. on 24 inch full hd monitor plz

You really should have the limiter set to 60 anyway. Not really. The trend is going towards higher fps monitors. 100, 120, 144 are getting more common. There are even a couple of 240 hz monitors. Zinchmwah.2067
A waste of money? Hm. Well, it's definitely faster than the 7700K, has a high frequency and has beaten the 1700X in workstation benchmarks. If I had it my way, I'd get the 8700K and pair it with 2 8GB 4133MHz memory. I'm only using a 6700 non K but going from 2133MHz to 3200MHz gave me 5 - 10 FPS astonishingly. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232445&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157796&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117827&cm_re=8700K-_-19-117-827-_-Product
onevstheworld.2419
From reading online, Coffee Lake gets it's performance boost by increased clock speed... IPC seems to be the same as Kaby Lake. So if you're willing to overclock, a 7700K will probably perform similarly on non-multicore-optimized games like GW2. https://m.hardocp.com/article/2017/10/05/intel_coffee_lake_core_i58600k_vs_7600k_at_5ghz_review/5 In any case, both chips run hot... so make sure you budget for a good cooler, maybe even a AIO water cooler, if you plan to get them running at those speeds. Thats not true. The i7 8700k runs cooler then the i7 7700k. Test shows that the i7 8700k clocks to 5.0GHz witout any problems on all cores with veary litle voltage increas on air coolers for 24/7 use. Most i7 8700k runs 5.0GHz on all cores at 1.350V. If you do that on a i7 7700k you will need a aio or the veary best air coolers to run 24/
Fermi.2409
>so make sure you budget for a good cooler, maybe even a AIO water cooler I definitely agree with the "good cooler" plan but I'd recommend checking out benchmarks before buying stuff. A lot of AIOs aren't better then high end air coolers much if at all
Maze.3825
I picked up a 300 board and plan on using my Noctua NH cooler. It's cooled my HAWT i7 Ivy Bridge all this time so; we'll see.
Engelsstaub.4356
No point going 8700K. Get an i5-8600K, it has the best single thread performance and 6 cores which is just the best for games.
