Aerick Blackmoore.8167
Dear fellow Lore lovers, Just today while browsing the species category of both GW1 and GW2 I got intrigued by the similarities between Krait and Naga and decided to dig deeper into their history as far as we know, I would like to present the case that they are indeed the same species! Or atleast provide the evidence for it for us to discuss. Let's start by the respective wiki posts of both GW1 and GW2: First I'd like to present the Naga: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Naga Interesting to note that they are led by Priestess Hanasha Coralfin, why this is of importance I'll elobarate on further on. Next the Krait: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Krait https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krait https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadows_in_the_Water_%E2%80%93_The_Krait World Map https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/a/ac/Tyria_world_fan_map.jpg As for why I believe the Naga are merely the Canthan word for Krait is that Prietess Hanasha is very similar to what an Oratuss seems to be in general Krait society. General physiology seems to be the same between the two species aswell as the fact Naga and Krait oils are sold under the same circumstances, that of being fake medicines. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bottle_of_Refined_Krait_Oil Naga seem to have spread from the Jade Sea(which is next to the Unending Ocean) to Shing Jae, Krait originating from the Unending Ocean spread across Tyria starting as far as we know along the Tarnished Coast. Yet, we never see them along the Elonan shorelines, which to me comes across as odd. The argument against this would be we have never seen a sort of Metamorphisis from Naga as we have in Krait. The question was asked during a may 2018 forum chat, but never anwsered; https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/41256/are-gw2-krait-actually-gw1-nagas Hope you enjoyed this little read and would like to hear your thoughts on the matter ! derd.6413
same species? no common ancestor? perhaps as for your evidence: priests and priestesses are common across different species and culutres so this doesn't mean anything. they look similar because they're both serpents, the forgotten are also serpents (but with 4 arms to differentiate themselves) but that doesn't mean they're all the same species (or even related) also naga and krait oil are both a references to snake oil which is also why they're sold under similar circumstances. Kalavier.1097
I believe Anet has officially at some point came out and said that the Krait, Naga, and Forgotton are all similar species, but unrelated.

They only said this for naga and Forgotten. Which makes sense given that Forgotten are not from this world, like humans and possibly harpies if Elonian legends hold true. They said nothing about krait in this relation. That said, krait and naga are most likely cousin species, like ogres and jotun.

The only way they can really tie Forgotten to the other two is if Krait or Naga didn't exist before the arrival of the Forgotten meaning that the Forgotten were their progenitors. I doubt this is the case though since the Forgotten have no relations to Naga outside of appearance (same way Norns and Humans have the same physiology but are not the same). crepuscular.9047
i would say cousins, Kraits were originated from Unending Ocean, and Naga were from the Jade Sea The Forgottens is nothing related to the two, they have snake like head while Kraits and Nagas have fish like heads, not to mention Forgottens got 4 arms while Kraits and Nagas only got two Adding to these differences in physical features, Forgotten has always been on land, they were spread across Tyria, at war with the Charrs, only retreated to the Crystal Desert after Humans became the dominant race
perilisk.1874
"Krait" are renegade nagas that appropriated krait culture. They don't have their (massively annoying) metamorphosis ability, so they're clearly not actual krait.
