  1. There's your Q4 2020 WvW patch ! ;)

I hope this is sarcasm, tactivators did not exist "day one" and it costed gold to upgrade structures and repair armor.

  2. I would not buy a X570 board unless you need multiple PCIE 4.0 SSDs. You can get very well featured B550 boards < $180 such as

    * ~$160 MSI B550M Mortar (highest rated on Hardwareunboxed/techspot for <$160), $150 B550 Gaming Plus (note cheaper ALC892 audio codec , 1G LAN) , ~$180 B550 Tomahawk (if you plan on getting 16 core in future with overclock)

    * ~$130 Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro-P (not regular mATX Pro , the new one with 10 powerstages for CPU and 2.5G LAN on box which is **B08L74NCPQ** on Amazon) , ~$155 B550 Aorus Elite , ~$170 Aorus Pro if looking at 16 cores in future

    * ~$150 Asus TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS , $185 for B550-F GAMING only if you plan on 16 cores

    * ~$175 ASRock B550 Steel Legend

Plus you won't need to worry at all about the chipset fan on basically every X570 board.

I also would not get a SSD smaller than 500GB. There's NvMe drives that are running ~$70 for 500GB with close to top tier performance such as Hynix P31. , let alone slower SATA (Crucial MX500 or Samsung 850 evo / 860 evo for example) and QLC based NvMe drives such as Crucial P1 / Intel 660p.

There's supposedly a Ryzen 5 5600 non-x coming in 2021 for ~$220 so if your budget is tight I would wait.

Ryzen memory compatibility has matured a lot since the first gen. You can get 3600 CL16 or 3600 CL 18 and be fine , you don't need 3200C14 or 3800 MT/s.

    see https://www.techspot.com/article/2140-ryzen-5000-memory-performance/

I also would not get any Navi-based AMD GPU because up til recently there was non-existent DX9 support which meant people were forced to use dx9 to d12 conversions or dxvk for Linux. The RTX cards from Nvidia whether they are Turing 2000 series or Ampere 3000 series have had better support for legacy titles. Would be looking at ~$220 GTX 1660 Super at a minimum, maybe RTX 2060 Super (basically RTX 2070) if you can get it non-gouged (it's supposed to be around $330-380 not $600) or RTX 3060 / RTX 3050 Ti when it comes out for two monitors at 2k (1440p) if you intend to turn up settings. GTX 1650 Super / GTX 1660 are generally for 1080p.

    * GALAX's internal roadmap had RTX 3060 positioned near RTX 2080.

  3. Do you have effect LOD off (Effect LOD limits detail of particle effects.) and post processing off?

Character Model Limit may also help.

Post processing adds a bunch of bloom effects.

If it's for PVE purposes then maybe turning off "Show All Player Names" would help you in addition to turning off "Always Show Squad Health Bars".

You also have to add the flashy backpieces that have been supposed to tank FPS. They don't seem to be affected by Model Limit.

    > damage against boonless foes is stupid, if they want to make it usefull make it deal

    > 10% increased damage, reduced by 1% for every boon on the foe. then having and removing boons matter.

    (This comment didn't age well.)

_Now_ it's clearly meant for PVE (where boons aren't plentiful generally) as a damage boost, but it is also taken in WvW for boon rips on CC (along with sword auto).

For a short time when Vicious Expression had 25% bonus in PVE it was hotfixed almost immediately.

    > > about giving tp to thieves, i agree that was an insult indeed. mesmer just keep losing its uniqueness. dont get it wrong, my thief is happy to have it lol

    >

    > Thieves never deserved it period and now that they do, this essentially proves that Anet doesn’t care about Mesmers anymore and would rather give all of our uniqueness to every other profession and leave us with mediocre kitten. That leaves what little left of the Mesmer community to impatiently wait for a better E-Spec come next expansion and I’m afraid if we don’t get anything as good as the other two, Mesmer’s will be an extremely RARE sight to see in EVERY gamemode.

    >

    > I blame poor balancing, designing and also the people who complained about our class way too much just because they can’t go up against a good Mesmer player...

Giving portal to thieves was a terrible idea due to their stealth uptime and evades.

What thieves needed in PVE was some damage bonuses on mediocre weapons because the initiative mechanic makes it such that cooldowns don't matter as much.

Mesmers aren't that bad in PVE (esp. in 10 man instanced content) or WVW (pretty much boon rips right now) but in PVP they are rarer for obvious reasons. The chrono shatter revert brought back more mesmers but they're still not that common in PVP/WVW.

  5. If it's for gift of battle just collect the WvW potions then.

If it's memories of battle you can buy them outright off trading post.

    > Been playing this game for 2 weeks now, and imagine my surprise when I learned the requirements to infuse a ring when all I enjoy is pvp.

You can buy a mist band which is infused already.

Also if you only PVP you don't even need ascended gear at all.

  6. As long as you don't mystic forge the triumphant hero ascended or mistforged triumphant hero armor you should be fine.

I don't recommend to make exotic precursor unless you have enough tickets to make legendary mistforged and the exotic version at the same time. For most players the added ~200g material cost of ascended for grandmaster marks is well worth it because you can make legendary triumphant hero and then take your time unlocking the mistforged version. The biggest time gate is skirmish tickets.

The only case where it makes sense to make exotic triumphant is if you have a ton of legendary armors already and are just going for the skin.

  7. Zen 3 has a 8 core CCX , so if you get a 6 or 8 core Zen 3 chip it will likely perform better than a 6 or 8 core Zen 2 chip. Not to mention there's more unified L3 cache , lower latency, and higher instructions per clock (19% claimed).

Singlethreaded performance is reportedly higher to the tune of up to 46% in things that are latency bound such as CSGO (which is also DX9) and 50% in LoL (DX11).

  8. The _worse_ your group is the better condi scourge is for things that have lots of adds whether it is Siren's Reef or a strike mission such as Cold War.

If your group is good the condis don't tick long enough for scourge to be worthwhile ; the additional sustain from barriers and such isn't necessary. Also if the boss moves a lot torment is amplified (which is why you see 100cm with 2x condi RR aka renegade sometimes).

I don't believe in reapers for fractals because of life force generation and the downtime on shroud as well as low levels of hard CC. Holosmith is far more consistent and can be healed while in photon forge; staff daredevil is far more effortless; fresh air tempest has a far higher cleave.

  9. Dagger is a 2012 era weapon in 2020. It hasn't been changed much from its original iteration and really should have had major damage increases in PVE because it's 2 targets (single target for the immob) whether it is through higher PVE modifiers for the third skill (Dark Pact) or bleeding tacked on to make it more effective as a hybrid weapon. Maybe if it had shared healing on Life Siphon it'd be more useful. The sustain isn't amazing either (the sustain on heal scourges using dagger is from the barrier output of scourge not the dagger) ; staff has more lifeforce generation outside of PVE especially if using soul marks.

Let's also not forget that Gravedigger recharges instantly when the target is <50% HP.

    > I personally use the power, ferocity, precision and vitality set (don't remember what it's called). Then I use runes of the firebrand for the boon/quickness duration. I mainly use a firebrand build that focuses on quickness uptime and high dps but I switch to DH for some stuff

The set with Power, Precision as major stats and vitality + ferocity as minor stats is called Marauder.

Generally you don't run firebrand runes on dragonhunter because you don't have access to decent group quickness , it's more or less run on condi quickbrand exclusively instead of Balthazar's rune.

    ----

My advice to the original poster is to make condi quickbrand gear (full viper armor, firebrand rune) if it is meant for openworld and raid as well. See discretize. It fits into more parties than a dragonhunter would (including 100cm) and the ramp on burning is low enough that unless you are with a high power burst party it still gets damage in.

    See :

    Raid variant : https://snowcrows.com/raids/builds/guardian/firebrand/condition%20quickness/

    Raid variant: https://lucky-noobs.com/builds/condi-quickness-firebrand

Fractal variant (relies on AR for boon duration): https://discretize.eu/builds/guardian/condi-firebrand

You wouldn't want to run harrier healbrand in openworld at all ; power firebrand is not going to work well at all in raid.

  11. I can understand removal of consumables, but I don't understand doing it without looking at defiance bars.

No rebalance of CC bars or additional defiance bar damage from boon corrupts or other such skill types that don't contribute isn't helpful.

This essentially cements an alacrity renegade spot along with guardian/berserker/soulbeasts in 98/99. I don't believe that it will suddenly make chrono gravity well suddenly sought after as the recharge is too high.

    Defiance bar damage:

    >! **rev**: 100 per hit up to 6 times Dark Razor's Daring (12s cooldown), 300 from Jade Winds (basically uses all your energy even if 5s cooldown), 150 per hit up to 9 times from Surge of the Mists (20 cooldown), 200 from Scorchrazor (12s cooldown, only condi RR) , 150 from Call to Anguish (3s cooldown but gated by energy cost , condi RR), 150 from Temporal Rift (15s cooldown, condi RR) , 75 per second for 300 total defiance bar damage from Forced Engagement 's 4s Taunt (10s cooldown , Dwarf only)

    >!

    >! **thief**: unless you're running sword+pistol for pistol whip (100 defiance bar damage per use for 5 initiative = effectively recharges in 5s once initiative is depleted) or 200 defiance bar damage off headshot (200 defiance bar damage per use for 4 initiative) you are relying on utility skills ; 100 from distracting daggers (rarely used , 20 ammo cooldown), 150 per hit up to 5 people from Basilisk Venom (40s cooldown elite skill)

Any "normal" Champion or Legendary fractal boss = 600 defiance bar

Bloomhunger (a normal boss) = 1000 defiance bar

Assault Knights = 800 defiance bar

    Ensolyss & Siax = 2000 defiance bar

Skorvald the Shattered = 2200 defiance bar

    Artsariiv = 2100 defiance bar

    Arkk = 1800 defiance bar

Ai, Keeper of the Peak = 3200 defiance bar

Sorrow = 1500 defiance bar with 10s window (near double the Assault Knights')

Compare this to say a raid boss designed for 10 people which is 2000 defiance for Vale Guardian / Matthias / Xera and 4000-4500 for the likes of Slothasor, Samarog and Gorseval...

  12. Well the Halloween event is roughly three weeks so in 21 days you would need over 5,700 candy corn a day...

I suspect most people aren't farming the cobs but buying them if they are aiming for the 120 cob items especially given that the Trick or Treat bags haven't gained anything new inside.
