  1. Yep, this was actually one of the things that surprised me most about GW2. Actually one of the big reasons why I decided to stick around. Somehow all players in the open world kind of seem like a "guild" or a "family" in some sense. I gotta hand it to Anet for making open world cooperative rather than competitive, but most of the time there is a player or two that goes above and beyond just to help someone struggling with content.

  2. I think your critiques are definitely valid, but I'm still having a pretty good time! Also seems like there are plans for new content on the horizon.

Does the game have problems? Yes.

Does the game have a future? Sure.

Am I having fun now? Yep.

I see why you may be concerned because an MMO can sometimes feel like an investment and you don't want it to one day go "poof". But no one can read the future and everything comes to an end eventually, let's just hope it isn't for a while. The important thing is that you enjoy playing GW2 now. Don't take it too seriously. It is a game after all.

  3. For each race, the most fitting professions come first. As you can see, humans can seemingly fit any role since they don't really have a very "unified" culture beyond the idea of kingdoms/politics and gods. The lore of other characters make some roles more fitting, and others maybe even downright taboo.

    ● Human (protection of king/queen and country as well as ordered society. The belief "gods" basically allow any role.)

Guardian, Warrior, Thief, Ranger, Mesmer, Necromancer, Elementalist, Engineer, Revenant

    ● Charr (disciplined society, and defined roles of legions. They are "cats", so stalking and hunting fits.)

    Warrior, Engineer, Thief, Ranger

    ● Norn (Hunters, physically strong, traditionally "guardians of the mists")

    Ranger, Warrior, Revenant, Guardian

    ● Asura (Interested in knowledge and the eternal alchemy (magic) as well as technology

Necromancer, Elementalist, Engineer (but kinda wrong tech. type?)

    ● Sylvari (Their whole being is an illusion in some sense, a part of nature, and interested in new secretive information as well as what "death" is)

    Mesmer, Ranger, Elementalist, Thief, Necromancer

    > With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to put the _Guild Wars 2_ Steam release on hold for the time being. Our number one priority right now is crafting _Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons_ with the high quality you expect and deserve. Additionally, we’re full speed ahead on delivering an epic climax to _The Icebrood Saga_ that lives up to (and we hope exceeds) previous Living World finales.

I'm okay with this, and hope that this is the real reason for the delay and not "acceptable" lip service. I also hope it means that server and some engine updates may be in the works (come expansion time?) so that new player (Steam, etc.) experience will be improved overall.

Above all, thank you Guild Wars 2 Team for working hard and sharing your creation with us and hopefully not letting harsh criticism from the community demoralize you. We complain because we care (hopefully)! Looking forward to exploring the future worlds you create. I hope it surprises us and surpasses our expectations! I have loved my time in Tyria so far and hope it only ever gets better.

    > Some amazing ideas in this thread. A highly requested feature, hopefully the devs will consider this. With multiple ingame trials (Astralarium, suns refuge) i still have my hopes on "soon"

Yeah, I just got to Sun's Refuge and saw this as well. I actually hope more customizable and decoratable home instances are included in the expansion. It seems like something Anet could easily add special cosmetics and "decoration kits" for in the gem store as well. More people may actually buy a Home Portal Stone, well if they allow porting of a whole party as well. The potential of monetization on Anets part actually makes me wonder why they have never invested in these features honestly, although they have flirted with them during various instances (Sun's refuge, etc.).

For the book shelf, it would be great if you could build a library. When you get a book it goes to your collection and then also appears in the home instance (kinda like how Sun's refuge system works). Each book shelf can hold a certain number of books. When you hit that capacity you get a second, third, fourth, etc. shelf in the instance. Eventually you don't have a bookshelf, but a library with numerous shelves. Pull up a nice chair and get to reading. lol

If they do it, I really hope you don't need the books in the inventory anymore to populate the shelves. Unfortunately my half-illiterate norn ends up destroying most of his books so he can store cakes and steaks.

    > A diving skimmer would not be a skimmer anymore. The clue is in the name. While i admire the attempts to save anet time and money by upgrading the skimmer, in effect it would be quite different from what we have now. Also, mount skins sell, so with a refitted skimmer there would be no financial benefit as there would be no new mount skins.

    This aged well. lol

But since the powers of necromancy brought this back, I'll take the chance to say that I wouldn't mind a completely underwater mount since the skimmer is now an amphibious mount. But honestly, I'm pretty satisfied with the mounts as they are. There are many different types and they are all pretty unique, so no mount really becomes obsolete.

I'd prefer to see underwater combat (skills, etc.) and gear be updated a bit though. Honestly, it's not awful, but it could be better, especially if underwater areas are going to be expanded in the next expansion. Maybe a mastery that improves underwater movement speed (both swimming and skimmer) by 20% or something.

    > @"AliamRationem.5172"

Also, an underwater WvW map? Yes please. Build those siege submarines!! lol

  7. I usually just pick something that flushes out the image or personality I am crafting for my character. For a long time my norn had “The demolisher” since it sounds like something a norn warrior would call himself. I just changed it to “Master Carver” since Eir was technically a master carver, so rooted in norn legend and society, and I am now also a spellbreaker which alludes to a more “violent” meaning with the proficiency in which the character uses his various blades. I’ll probably go back to “The demolisher” when I play berserker again. If I remember to change it.

  8. They should just add a check box "Allow 'followers' to see my status" or "Hide my status from 'followers'".

If you are harassed by someone you can block them. It is their "friend list" real estate, not yours. Do you really want to go through and periodically purge your follower list? It may be cathartic for some, but something about this seems unhealthy for society virtual or otherwise. It's the same silliness as "facebook friend purges" etc.

    So with that, also this.

    > @"Zephire.8049" said:

    > It very much needs an overhaul, or at the very least changed so blocking someone removes them from your followers and they can't see where you are.

I sometimes add people that I do not intend to be friends with, but met out-of-game, forums, etc., and 'follow' so I can contact them when they are online. Or it just serves as a reminder for someone that was a good member in a PUG. 96% of the time I never contact followers more than once or twice. My follower's list is just basically a list of acquaintances that I normally don't play with. This can be helpful for realizing I've met someone before when they play an alt with a vastly different name and account names are really the only way to know who a player is. But, yeah outright taking the action of blocking someone should forcefully remove their ability to follow you.

  9. Every class (if not core, at least one elite spec) should get access to a new additional stealth skill. When entering into stealth yourself using said skill, all other players, enemies, who are stealthed are revealed [only to the player character] and have a bluish Aura. While stealthed the player gains access to a second-stage stealth ability that ends their stealth but reveals [to all players] other stealthed players (max 3) within 150 burst radius, dazing revealed enemy players/npcs/mobs, etc. but putting also 5 stacks of vulnerability on the player character. There could be more specific mechanics for each class. I don't play a stealth class (warrior), so honestly I don't know how viable the implementation of something like this would be, but I do know that stealth in PvP can be pretty annoying and it would be nice to have the option for a couple seconds of stealth in PvE. Maybe Cantha will give a "Shadow Warrior" elite spec or something. ;p

Thanks! I just got it! It is the Royal Flame Sword. It's one of the weapons you can choose from opening 1,000 trick-or-treat bags.

It's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.

    I couldn't agree more.

Insightfully depressing. Enheavyning, even. Thanks! ...I guess. :p

To be hypocritical I would suggest that Guild Wars 3 (don't call it that though, maybe something like "Tyria: The Birth of Magic") be more like The Witcher 3. An awesome single player campaign with a deep story set in Tyria and wide open world to explore. Add in the option for players to create and host their own PvP lobbies and even have a montly/weekly hosted WvW mode (seige/raiding game mode) where 30 or so players join a random color team every time they join the event. Really "lore it up" with the beginning of the gods, magic and dawn of humanity in Tyria to get people interested in playing the MMO called Guild Wars 2 (maybe even GW1).

  13. Steve is not buff, I can't even see his muscles! He's not even skin and bones. I'm norn, I know these things.

I just get down'ed' with with my friends and party on death's door, but in the end we always send Steve home.

He's a menace, but important for preserving the wildlife of the labyrinth. On Halloween there is always too much living sucking the death out of the dead.

Although I would say you make some valid points, the important thing to realize is there should be diversity in games as there is diversity in gamers. Many (if not most) GW2 players play GW2 because they don't want to play WoW (or a game like WoW). I see no point in making a game that already does what another game does. Much better to create a game that does what another does not, and so players have greater choice. I always wonder why some players make comments like, "make the game more like this game", especially when it comes to the core mechanics and philosophy of a game, when said player could just go play "that game".

Personally I love GW2 and play it because of what it is. I think it just needs a bit more love and polish, hence why there doesn't really need to be a Guild Wars 3 (unless there is a big change like open world PvP, etc.). But it will be pretty funny to see GW2 still running on DX9 in 2025 and barely breaking 45fps in high population zones with next gen processors and graphics cards and with skill lag issues to boot. WoW's engine has been updated and it is not the "Quake 3 engine or whatever 15 years ago engine" you think it to be.

  15. I opened 2 chests. The first one had the Sand Lion warclaw skin. Lucky? I dunno. The lion doesn't look happy about it.

Usually my rule is a max of 2 keys for each new chest selection. If I don't get something good on my first or second try, I'll probably waste a lot more trying to get there. RNG is bound by the law of small numbers, giving way to the fallacy of the maturity of chances. So basically, your actual chances to get something have be probabilistically slim.

  16. No.

Sure make another game (MMO even) set in Tyria with the lore, but make it something different than GW2. Call it "Tyria" or something. If there were going to be a new IP, I'd rather it be that, "new".

A lot of things are broken or just too outdated (including some mechanics), especially in the early content of GW2.

I would however love for GW2 to get some well deserved polish. Honestly I would prefer a seamless "remaster" of some content, LWS1 replacement, engine optimization and higher resolution textures in older zones than a rehash of Guild Wars 2 with the label of Guild Wars 3. Too bad all the player data, environments couldn't somehow be migrated to something like Unreal Engine 4, which would possibly make it more possible for upgrades to later Unreal Engine iterations in the future and help "future-proof" the game. Add in better/stable server tech, and amazing! Honestly, if this was the new feature of the third expansion, then it would be the best feature. Probably better than mounts. haha. But in the end, is GW2 a forever game? Does ANet really want to keep this as their flagship until the end? If not, such overhauls like engine upgrades are likely not worth it. However, if they want this to still be considered competition after another 5 years, then yeah, the update would be essential.

TLDR: No, I don't think there should be a "Guild Wars 3". I would rather see something new and different while still keeping with the same Arenanet philosophy (map exploration, horizontal progression, beautiful environments) found in both GW1 and GW2. But I'd even more rather see a better GW2.

Makes perfect sense. It would seem the Faren family likes single letter names in general. Masked Rider "H" for good ol' Lord Humphrey Faren, anyone?

We, as the player, are falling for the ultimate Mesmer illusion.
