vendors are buying broken lockpicks for 9c a piece in unlimited quantities!

tyrian vendor: "oh a pebble, here have my 2c. wait you have some goo? take another 2c. literal gold? no thanks, i don't want that crap!"

with the new LS5 maps, many material prices went down, so you're already a bit late at selling

anyways if you have a true main character the infinite gathering tools are a great deal, they may be expensive (1200 gems for a set of skinless versions on maximum discount) but the "upkeep" cost for gathering turns to zero from then on. while gathering tools don't cost a lot they still cost something, especially inventory space since you need at least a spare one of every kind, making 3 inventory slots that are constantly acquired, if you like gathering likely more.

on the other side if you have a shared inventory slot the copper-fed salvager or the runecrafter salvager shine. they're cheaper per use than their standard counterparts, so you also save (very few) money using them. silver-fed is mainly beaten by mystic kits which have a big enough durability to make the inventory space usage less of a problem anyways.

having those infinite tools is just a great QoL improvement.

it also saves time not having to worry about bringing the kits and you never have to stop looting tarir because you ran out of space and kits ... but since unidentified gear was introduced that is less of a problem anyways.

    > Sylvari are new and magical and don't reproduce sexually, period.

while they themselves don't, i doubt they appear asexual because if they did they'd all be mere clones. we all know how different sylvari are, they have to originate from a bigger gene pool than just one ancestor. also there is more than one of those spawn trees existing.

mordremoth won't likely be the reason as his further developed minions lack uniqueness, apart from a few chosen ones and the occasional specially transformed sylvari (e.g. faolain).

also you wouldn't want your minions to have a distinct personality, you would want tools that are highly specialized in their task and inside their group exact copies (clones).

remember that most plants rely on sexual reproduction even if some of them also have the ability to clone themselves. otherwise all blossoms and many fruits wouldn't exist.

    > So where exactly is the challenge of HoT that we all supposedly want more of, because I just don't see it. What I do see are annoying mobs that hit too hard with multi-attacks, AoE fields the size of small nations, DoTs that are treated like special effects that you can't cleanse with your cleansing powers and knockdown spam. Conditions you can't cleanse and knockdown spam are especially obnoxious because those specifically target counterplay options and throw them in the dumpster - you can't do anything about them no matter how you gear, build or play. They remove player agency and negate what little purpose there is in building a character for the content, because you're just going to get uncleansable dots and chained knockdowns spammed on you by various mobs anyway, and the only counterplay option you have?

huh what? which dots are you talking about?

knockdown spam has 3 counterplay options:

    1. kite from distance with high dps

    2. have a high sustain so you can afk while laying around

    3. spam stability, aegis and dodge

in HoT all three work fairly well, so i don'T see your "only 1 option" thing. not to mention that your mentioned option is basically having everything at maximum which isn't possible...

AoE fields the size of small nations? i never had a problem with ground denial (except the shroom hp in tangled depths) in HoT and i run full melee. i, however, do have a ground denial problem in PoF, so i find that content a lot more tedious even if it is easier.

imagine being a sylvari with a shroom head, the equivalent for humans would be ... a shroom head?

mushrooms are closer to animals than to plants, so i always wonder where that mushroom affection of sylvari comes from ...

is it ok to eat a mushroom as shroom head?

  6. with random greens you mean the heart vendor equip from gobblers, right?

those can be put in the mystic forge, output is tradeable, so you have an unlimited sink, unlike the other items mentioned

maybe other items could get a mystic forge usage?

the three HoT garbage items + leaf fossil = some low value thing? maybe empyreal fragments, dragonite ore or bloodstone dust at random like it is for clovers?

    25 ley line spark + 25 auric dust + 25 airship oil + 5 leaf fossil = 5/25 empyreal fragments/bloodstone dust/dragonite ore or 1/3 obsidian shard [rare]

  7. first thing: definitely housing. in all the 5 years i played this game i never found out where my asura sleeps. the commander is homeless, let's face the truth.

an option that makes cats shut up.

ability to create a character without mastery access and achievements reset (= fresh start).

possibility to complete maps as pacifist (you can lvl up quite well and explore but those hero points won't unlock without fighting).

a personal story. not the thing called personal story but a story where you can actually decide things. thing that don't matter for the rest of the world. just for yourself.

~~an explanation why sylvari have tits when they aren't mammals.~~

  8. well pets would allow a big variety of achiements that make sense or are just funny.

think of a "true colour" achievement for making your moa pet kill at least one of any differewnt colour of moa on the funny side

or on the serious side achievements tied to rivalries like killing mordremoth with a lesser dragon type of maguuma.

they all have a problem though: they are class-specific. there aren't many class-specific achievements sadly and it if this game has taught me something then it is that ANet wants every species, every class and every gender to be meaningless outside of a fight.

for the original question: how to do that? best example are moas in their different colours, how would you dye a white moa and still have a white moa and not a blue, pink, green, whatever one?

    > During daily events in low level zones, I mentor up and politely ask players to not use their mounts to kill things so that everyone can get a chance.

    >

i just search events with the beetle, tag some mobs and then wait with mentor tag until other people complete it.

i do like core tyria maps but they're designed without mounts in mind, so mounts make them quite ridiculous at certain points like standing on the top of an invisible wall in straits of devastation or leaving the map in kessex hills. rata sum has huge outskirts with a proper ground and certain climbable invisible walls making it a nice playground. on the other hand these regions obviously aren't fleshed out. i would love if ANet put some secret stuff in maps like that that you only find with mounts, giving their existence a purpose. otherwise i wouldn't mind getting rid of mounts in central tyria entirely. apart from guild treks for small/inactive guilds there isn't really any positive effect they currently have (maybe silverwastes movement as there are no waypoints during RIBA but then again cf was a lot more fun when we all tried to stay at the front only with class movement rather than all same raptor speed). i would certainly have more fun in core tyria if being forced to play without a mount (and everyone else as well so i still get a fair chance at events and stuff).

edit: there was someone talking about events not scaling up big enough. there are events that scale up so hard that they just become a chore to complete. best example is the first pre of the megadestroyer where the time-capped ley line event chain nearby will be completed faster even though the NPCs have to walk over the entire map first, then you do a fixed-time fight and then beat a boss. that is beyond ridiculous. also many gathering events scale up brutally like the giant beetles in dry top or air elementals in harathi hinterlands. the latter one takes up to 10 minutes if it is daily where 9 minutes are just wait for respawn. there need to be some scaling adjustments (bigger scaling for time-gated or escort, respawn scaling for gathering, less scaling for moral-gated defense [or much much higher respawn rate])

  10. The Spearmarshal's Plea exchanges 25 Eyes of Kormir for a Mini that is ... well the least valuable in the game. You get about a copper for those if you're lucky, they can't be used in the mystic forge and they have no further purpose. Yet they are are flagged as an item that needs confirmation on deletion. This flag clearly is a bug. It should be cleared so that we can delete the minis we already have from our inventories without further annoyance.

    >

    > Balance is achieved with fairness, not favoritism. In war you have two sides fighting.

in war the defender has a huge advantage in holding the position, why do you think siege took weeks and often succeeded only by starving out the besieged town/fort? do you think it has been because the defenders outnumbered the attackers? do think it was due to personal skill of the defenders? sorry to tell you but no, it's just because defenders have a huge advantage in medieval sieges. a far bigger one than in this game. so if you want to play the war card then defenders should be buffed.

    > 1 hit...dead? Dude thief can have one of the best self healing in top pve content (raids) with 3.5-6k healing per second ( depending on ur dps ) and im not even talking about the evades! You simply just dodge around and dmg stuff. U want a 1 hit dead thing? Look at warrior's self heal in raids/fractals

    r/nocontext

when you get oneshotted just remember you have 6k heal per sec! it totally helps!

  13. if this kind of event makes berserker gear bad i will very much like it. berserker gear should not be a thing in open pve, only in group content where some other guy intentionally takes the damage for you.

the aggro system in this game is awful so we need some players to show how a real aggro system works: always attacking the weakest link in the chain and not the pve stupidity of starting a hero challenge and watching the guy run over 100 metres to some afk player that happens top have 1 more toughness equipped.

    > I found mounts have helped unbug the facets when going from water to land I can just mount up and when I get off they are good again. I don't think mounts are the issue with them tbh.

you can reproduce anything of my post to test it and from all the time it happened to me i don't remember any case where it bugged without a transformation. there are other transformations that bug but transformations that allow your utility skills to go on aren't that often. it will most probably happen with a kite in the same way it happens with mounts.

  15. this thread is close to 2 years old and facets still bug on water transitions.

i just did some research on it:

    1. if you have facets running and mount up, then run into water your facets are off.

    2. if you have facets running and mount up, then **jump** into water (elevation change required!) your facets keep going. however they won't grant any boons from that point on until you do either of the following:

2.1 you mount and unmount again on land

2.2 you mount and **jump** into water. this will of course reapply the bug but you gain your boons once.

2.3 you activate any other facet

    3. point 2 also applies if you unmount into water fast enough, i.e. unmounting on a skimmer over water. if you unmount on a skimmer over water and glide to delay the watering the bug will not occur. if you repeat the bug like in 2.2 with a fast unmount into water you can actually get a tick in the time between unmounting and landing but the bug will occur nevertheless (see https://gyazo.com/5e64bad7a6b20f57a45df979a34d341e ) <- edit: the ) is not part of the link

    4. if you move a springer into water it doesn't bug. what?

so the combination of mounts and water is the source of this bs and makes a glint perma swiftness movement very buggy any time water and skimmers are involved.

if you happen to run into it in wvw you probably jumped into water with a warclaw with some elevation change.

now it becomes even more crazy:

    what is an elevation change?

normal mount jumps don't count as elevation changes unless the mount can fly or there is an actual elevation change without the jump height.

a raptor leap counts as an elevation change if it is charged and not if it isn't.

a raptor tail spin does count as an elevation change. however if you happen to land on land but unmount on water you cross into water without elevation change, getting point 1 (hard to reproduce).

a jackal blink does not count as elevation change and if used just above the water will reset your elevation change.

    now let's go weird boys

a griffon flight does not count as elevation change and it doesn't matter at what height you started.

a griffon dive landing in the water does count as elevation change.

a griffon descend (holding back) does count as elevation change.

a rollerbeetle roll out does not count as elevation change, however it has this other cool thing: https://gyazo.com/4a0bda3cf730143474d5e84a1ea2d1b3

a rollerbeetle boost water bounce does count as elevation change if the beetle is fast enough.

a skyscale flight does not count as elevation change.

a skyscale glide does count as elevation change.

a skyscale descent does count as elevation change.

a skyscale dash does count as elevation change.

    tl;dr:

flying mounts always have their current altitude as their ground level if they actually fly and flap their wings, however in the time between that they don't refresh their ground level.

the springer seemingly has no ground level at all, it always counts as a jump landing.

the raptor and roller beetle use their biggest height during a charge as ground level and therefore have different behaviors on different charge states.

the skimmer can not unmount into water unless in pretty rare circumstances where a roof is pushing it in and i haven't tested that.

whenever you unmount by water with a jump landing your facets stay active and consume energy without doing anything.

whenever you unmount by water without a jump landing your facets are off.

keep your mounts dry revs and you won't bug glint facets! if you have to make them wet, do it without lashing them down a cliff and instead smoothly transition into water to make your facets actually go off.

  16. map chat is often filled with guild recruitments and as a guild leader i don't ever need to read that, plus it is quite annoying. that is my major reason to disable map chats.

if you want chatter in a map chat, go to thunderhead peak during meta times and complain about lag. that always works.
