wget.exe is just an executable. There is no install.

If you know a better way of doing the same thing, modify to your hearts content and maybe share with us :)

Keep in mind that many still use Windows 7 that does not have PS by default.

  2. This is a simple HowTo for automatic installation and updating of ArcDPS from [https://www.deltaconnected.com/arcdps](https://www.deltaconnected.com/arcdps "https://www.deltaconnected.com/arcdps")

If you do not know what ArcDPS is, read about it first on the above mentioned URL.

This is not a discussion about "Is a DPS meter toxic or not". It is your choice if you want to use it or not. Just keep it to yourself and improve your own skills.

If you want to know more about Anet's stance on ArcDPS, search this forum, but in short: "in the feb 2017 ama, arenanet has granted 3rd party tools permission to collect and display combat stats via means previously not allowed. these are runtime modifications only, no changes are made to files on disk."

** WARNING: MODIFYING GUILD WARS 2 THROUGH ANY 3RD PARTY TOOLS IS NOT SUPPORTED BY ARENANET OR NCSOFT.

THERE IS NO HELP OR WARRANTY. THIS IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK AND YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY

FOR USING THIS TOOL. IF YOU FEEL THIS PROVIDES GAMEPLAY ADVANTAGE OR AUTOMATION OR BREAKS ANY OTHER

    RULES DO NOT USE THIS.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT CONTACT ARENANET SUPPORT WHILE USING THIS MODIFICATION BY ANY MEANS OR UNDER

    ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER.**

With so many updates to the Guild Wars 2 client requiring ArcDPS to be updated also, I decided to write a small auto updater/installer for a small personal QoL improvement.

The script is a plain batch file, everyone can see whats inside it, so please, no questions about it's safety or if it is a virus.

Prior to running anything listed here, please scan the files with your antivirus software or use [https://www.virustotal.com](https://www.virustotal.com "https://www.virustotal.com") to check them online against multiple antivirus engines.

Also take a good look inside run.bat, the file that actually does the install/update. The batch file will only try to download 1 file required for ArcDPS, d3d9.dll

    # What you need

    1. wget for windows from [https://eternallybored.org/misc/wget/](https://eternallybored.org/misc/wget/ "https://eternallybored.org/misc/wget/")

Copy the file wget.exe in your Guild Wars 2 root folder, where Gw2-64.exe file is.

Required by the update batch file.

    2. DirectX runtimes from [https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=8109](https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=8109 "https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=8109")

    Install it.

    Required by ArcDPS

    3. Visual ++ 2013 redist from [https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3179560/update-for-visual-c-2013-and-visual-c-redistributable-package](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3179560/update-for-visual-c-2013-and-visual-c-redistributable-package "https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3179560/update-for-visual-c-2013-and-visual-c-redistributable-package")

    Install it.

    Required by ArcDPS

    4. The actual batch file that will install and update ArcDPS from [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YdP3x5ZKA6IoT4emS1sxhYA69Jufb7ZV](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YdP3x5ZKA6IoT4emS1sxhYA69Jufb7ZV "https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YdP3x5ZKA6IoT4emS1sxhYA69Jufb7ZV")

Copy the file run.bat in your Guild Wars 2 root folder, where Gw2-64.exe file is.

    # How to run it and some info

Always start Guild Wars 2 via run.bat batch file if you want ArcDPS to be automatically updated.

If you do not have ArcDPS, the script will download it automatically on the 1st run.

If you have it installed, the script will only check if a new version exists online and only download if needed.

Sometimes, after a Guild Wars 2 client update, ArcDPS might cause the client to crash. Usually, ArcDPS dev will update fast, but in case the update is delayed , just delete d3d9.dll file from bin64 subfolder in your Guild Wars 2 install directory. On the next run, the file will be downloaded again by run.bat batch file.

I hope this will help someone and also that posting this here will not break any of Anet's terms of service.

  3. I am not saying the game is optimized, not even one bit.

But my i7 8700K @4.7 Ghz with GTX 1080ti can give me a decent experience with any amount of on screen craziness . And that is all settings maxed out.

In my experience, even people who think they know computers have plenty of stuff running in the background making the whole gaming experience sub-par.

  4. I really do not get the point of these topics.

If you think you know better, why don't you get your own squad going?

Nobody is preventing anybody from creating a squad using a thief as a healer and a druid as a dps. Just go for it, record your run then come brag all you want on forums.

You don't even need a tag!

    More action less crying.

As a side note, now that I started playing dps in fractals and raids, I never yet got the chance to have a decent healer and a buffer at the same time, 2in1, that is not a druid.

I might be very unlucky. I leave that chance to somebody else.

  5. Please cut it out with "meta comps don't need a healer" stuff.

99% of parties will flat out die without any healing, if only because they expect to be healed and stay in all the possible AoEs . Even with a very good healer, depending on the situation a party can wipe if they don't know how and when to dodge, expecting to be healed no matter what.

0.90% will do CMs without a healer at the expense of many wipes until they get that perfect edited run for a youtube video.

And of course, there are 0.10% that practiced a lot, have a tight group and can finish anything without a healer. Much respect to them.

In the mean time, for the rest of us 99% mortals, the answer is= A Druid that knows how to...druid.

  6. Lately even dps meters count for nothing :)

Short example: 99CM we wipe at 1st boss.

Some douche says something in the line of "Guard, do more dps" (hint I was the DH)

The funny thing was that I was top dps according to ArcDPS.

So either he was not running ArcDPS and thought the world of himself or I don't know what to say.

Conclusion: with or without dps meters, there are some weird people out there that will constantly try to blame anybody else but themselves. And there are lots of them.

  7. Thieves are the reason I never enjoyed WvW and I only play it for gift of battle.

Where is the fun of getting one shot from stealth?

Because so many like to call it "esport", where does the sport part come in shooting your opponent from perma-stealth?

I understand using tactics and knowing when and how to dodge. But at least give me the opportunity to react to something I see!

Stealth should have never been implemented.

  8. I am all for better tech implemented in GW2, such as newer DX, but crashing is not one of the problems DX9 has.

I am using ArcDPS and gw2hook for better graphics and I do not have any crashes whatsoever.

Then again, I lost a lot of time testing my system to make sure it is as stable as it can be. I see many people getting new rigs and overclocking the kittycat out of them. The more Ghz, the better. But unfortunately, without making sure their systems are stable.

  9. Without a real SupportChrono and a real harrier Druid at least, DH cannot keep up high dps for too long.

I am a noob on DH, but with the right people pushing the right buttons, I can sustain ~25-28k dps .

Too bad that most of the time, with the wrong people pushing the wrong buttons I can only do ~15k dps.

Conclusion: without good support people, for me at least, dps goes down the drain.

    >

    > I figured out a while ago that all the swimming blue letters on screen gave me headaches, weirdly enough. As soon as I started leaving squads after Taxiing I've not had a tension headache from gaming since. Just because *you don't get it*, doesn't mean that people that want to hide players names in a squads only give a kitten about themselves in game (How do you get to this conclusion, everyone plays for themselves regardless, some of us would rather not be in pain to do so).

If you get headaches from just some name plates, maybe you have bigger problems.

I am not even kidding. Consult some ORL professional. Your eyes might need some attention.

Or any other professional your might need.

  11. For some reason I have never been distracted by the name plates.

It actually helps me see who is doing what. Health bar is a big plus.

I think most people get distracted by the rest of visual effects and think that getting rid of name plates will help them somehow.

Don't get me wrong, I am not against an option like the one requested here, but at the same time I can't stop and think to myself that people requesting this don't give a rats ass about anyone else but them while in a squad.

  12. I main a harrier druid most of the time.

Last night, during a daily recommended run I decided to switch over to a full viper's condi druid because I felt like I was over healing and some extra damage would speed thing along. No "healer" in lfg description.

My word I was so wrong. People were going splat all over the place and of course some poor soul thought it should blame the druid because I was not healing enough. And we were not even at the 1st boss, just trash mobs.

People truly got used to being healed all the time and nowadays don't even think about dodging, positioning or other boring stuff like that. Social awkwardness for too many people is considered a beneficial buff not a damaging one.

I might have caught a bad batch of players (all 200+ masteries) for that daily recommended, but my impression is that the type of batch I got yesterday is representative.

I know there are players good enough so they won't need strong healing even on highest fractal levels, but again, just my impression, those are a tiny minority.

I also know a lot of people keep saying the druid is mainly for buffs. That is not what I usually see.

To answer the op: I enjoy relying on others in mmorpgs, otherwise I would just play a single player game.

The problem is over reliance and people getting used to be carried while skipping intended tactics, standing in AoE all day long and trampling each other while having social awkwardness. All this while considering the healer not that important to the party's success.

  13. I ran quite a few bounty trains and squad got filled pretty fast.

The trick is to have daily bounty on that specific map., which happens quite a lot.

It is useful to NOT tag up just because you have one when another tag is on the map and doing a bounty train.
