  1. I think, i came up with a Theory.

This is using the Rx 550 4gb as a reference. at low settings , Native rendering, i could be within Freesync settings and VSR(Virtual Super Resolution) to 4k resolution. Now VSR actually does Super sampling to raise the resolution but then scales it down to your monitor Native resolution. Note this method has been proven to be 5-10fps to the real resolution. Wait got off topic.

PS: Nvidia's side is called DSR(Dynamic Super Resolution), But a Programmer made a program that can make nvidia GPU do Resolutions up to 7k.

The common knowledge is if you upscale the resolution, you then offset the load more to the GPU side of things, which then in turn lessen the load on the CPU side. So using the GTX1060 user @4k resolution as an example. It could be the same Vice Versa, using a somewhat not fully capable GPU can maintain the load more on CPU.

So maybe the Rx 580/GTX 1060 are the sweet spot for 4k gaming on GW2, enough oomph for 4k gaming but not enough to make your Badass CPU be completely at idle.

Note i used to game at max settings on my RX 580 also stable at 60fps most of the time but with dips to 20-35fps in highly populated area's(Most notably for me, was the sylvari territory.)

Wait, that still doesn't answer the Quest for completely Constant 60fps @4k

    This is a FX6300 4.3ghz, R7 250x 1000mhz core 1012mhz Memory, 8gb DDR3 17xxmhz Ram, 120gb SSD @1080p locked at 30fps... To think this game used to only take like 2-3gb if i remember correctly.

And it's even worse since 8.1 (they disabled fullscreen). Refunded BFA after 8.1 because the performance in WoW is so bad, literally unplayable at 7680x1440.

Can i get your computer Specs?

    > But you are right it is not great considering I am using a 1080ti@2GHz, 8700k@5GHz (4.8GHz Cache) and 16GB of 4266-17-17-17-28 RAM with all the subtimings tuned to just being 1 off from causing crashes. Maybe DDR5 will make those speeds more accessible, we will see.

Actually, can you tell us your FPS? you have the complete Overkill setup, but the memory frequency has me drooling. i always wondered who would buy the kit. Thanks .

  4. There's a option in advance settings on the "Power" options in windows 10(7,xp)when you navigate into the advance options, there's a category for Processor minimum and maximum. Adjust the minimum to 95% and have maximum at 100% . Go into your Nvidia graphics settings and adjust every option for performance. Now try again on gw2 with your OC options set.

Update us on the cpu temp and Usage of cpu and GPU.

  5. with freshly logged in win 10 screen, click on search-> type in "%appdata%" -> click on "%appdata%" folder-> enter "Guild Wars 2" folder -> Delete "local.dat" file(empty trash bin).

play Guild Wars 2, hope that helps. If find cause let me know. My brother with a ryzen 5 1600 8gb ram is having crashing issues after a while of playing, not sure if he still uses his gtx 950.

  6. yeah, i recently began playing again(casual player) i was fighting a little boss event(not actual bosses but like side events) and i kept getting knocked down... i was like "what the hell... then i remembered 'oh yeah i can dodge a few times... oh and forgot i got that spell/skill that grants stability to nullify knockdown' " and i moved on... I still get knocked out just not as much, lol.

i need to retest with "native" rendering, as i forgot to set that before recording the video.

MAX settings at 4k with native rendering was like 7-12fps average.

4k on low settings with "native" around 70-100 fps depends on area, lowest between 30-50fps.

Sorry, it's hard to recall the exact numbers, Also the FPS drop from subsampling to Native isn't much.

The GPU model was a low profile XFX rx 550 4gb.

ArenaNet has set their minimum requirements to support old dual core CPU's. The game was set more for CPU loading than the GPU so doesn't require much of a gpu for 4k gaming.

They factored in the rebuild of the engine and decided the performance gains to the cost ratio was not worth the risk.

I'm still curious if it's really a engine problem or Server problem. Only way to see is for them to hold inside house testing of 4k gaming on the newest model PC and see if FPS drops occur. If drops don't occur then the problem lies within the servers and not the engine.

Maybe they can hold a Live stream of this testing on their next stream *hint* ArenaNet.(I'd watch this)

On the Overclock side of things, the "bus speed"(usually the numbers are like "200") not the "multiplier"(usually numbered as "x10") usually helps increase the IPC of CPU's. This option did great performance gains on the old FX series of CPU's for gamers. You want to mess with the "multiplier" after messing with "bus speed" first.

I recommend RAM OC, specifically TIMING as on my athlon x2 64 5200+ i messed with the ram timing and FPS went from 70fps to 100fps on the Phantasy Star Online 2 Benchmark. Higher frequency RAM is better(usually a 10fps increase) but, Timing did a better FPS increase. I read OC or Timing adjusting can damage registries on OS though. Whether that true or not is up for debate.

ArenaNet can do a FundMe/kickstarter to pool funds for a Game engine overhaul(add new features) and Optimization pass.
