Whats your favorite Gimmick build?

Been here since the beginning and you can only play the same content for so long before it's just not fun anymore. To get around that, I like to make gimmick builds, builds that are not all that particularly powerful but do something different with the play that makes it fun for a while. Just something to help stave off the boredom.

Recently I threw this one together on my lunch break. it's ok, basically uses the Runes to stack Might instead of traditional means.

How about you guys, what are some of your favorite gimmick builds to roll through some content with?

My [Assassin](http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PaxAgiVjZYRGk1pEcct2fdA-zRJYshVCeOA-e) build, in case the next elite spec goes in a different direction. The idea is to rp a gw1 Assassin and pretend that a combo chain of 3 different weapon skills is an efficient use of initiative by fueling damage modifiers and M7/Premeditation.

 

I usually start with dancing dagger, close the distance with heartseeker, into death blossom, then stealth with stolen skill/CnD for a backstab. With fury, it's pretty consistent max malice for M7, unless my positioning with DB is off. I could probably use more precision, but I just grabbed some random hybridy gear and the Grieving set I wasn't using.

 

To emulate hex spells I use cantrips, and for the elite I choose the human racial, Reaper of Grenth. YES. Because he is one of the patron gods for the assassin and for 15 glorious seconds I get to look really cool enveloped in darkness and shadow. And I guess there's some synergy with the DA gm traits, kinda? Mainly the first 2 reasons tho.

 

Just a thematic build for open world, when I'm in the mood to feel that 1-2-3 combo.

So I came up with this guy while Sparring a Guildmate in our GH. We dubbed it the Farting Thief. Basically he plays keep-away while stacking poisons, daze, and Pulmonary impacts with the bows Choking Gas.

I enjoy it, but definitly not that useful in anything outside of 1v1's in the Guild Hall.

Guess it's time to declassify [Prototype Gunner](http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PakAURlZwuYdsQmJWMP/vOA-zVIUSU9PIE4qVQlUw4aUE-w) and [Demolition](http://gw2skills.net/editor/?Pa0AUpjlFwOoCMK2IOuKVnNA-zVRUfR9zM4DhWcKqgQkCOdSwcDA-w). The Prototype Gunner is designed to be a ranged tank (or brusier if using marauder armor) by staying revealed and having perma protection along with momentum buildup. Demolition is designed to take out siege as quickly as possible in one continuous burst.

You spam 4+2+dodges in the order you want (combo everywhere) until you need to swap weapon. Make no mistake, it's really effective in OW; daze everywhere (torment + pulmonary impact) (even if they have nerfed Schoking gas) and of course a lot of poisons, bleeding, torment with the dodge. Even in wvw. Much less in raids/strikes because a big part of dps comes from whirl combo.

 

An other condi p/d [meme build](http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PakAoilZwoYHMF2IO2WtvOA-zRJYmRDfZUQBEZCYwA-e) which actually works quite well in group content.

You spam 3, then 5+1 when malice up, etc.

A bit less for OW, with BQBK + trhill of the crime but not as effective as power pew/pew in this mod. I have tried once with runes of FB + haste + Burst of agility, for quickness uptime .... So you have quickness uptime, but the loss of DPS is not worth.

 

Otherwise, the classics : Pew/Pew BQBK spam 3 deadeye (works too with rifle, and D/Pew). Staff Daredevil etc.

I don't find meme/gimmick builds with core thief. It works, something hybrid like [that](http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PaEBoihjlFwoYHsL2IO2KbrTA-zRJYmRPfQElAGDA-e), but it's not as effective as e-spec. The deadeye's Mark abuse is just so strong in OW. Same for daredevil dodges/combo.

So basically if you have a lot of targets you can keep Thieves guild up all the time. This build uses traits to buff steal which performs a lot of different tasks. You can keep Thieves guild up and buffed with might, fury and swiftness as well as any stolen boons and 20 Vulnerability on your target. Improvisation and Payback work together so that your utility skills are pretty spammable as well. Cast Thieves Guild, Steal, use the stolen skill, all the utility skills and then Unload until dead. Which will be fast.

That's a blast from the past, I had an extremely similar build back when Theif still had traps. Timing it all correctly, and using the trap Thief summon, I could just manage to get 6 summons up and going. Very fun build that let me overwhelm people in WvW. Had an absolute blast with it.

It's a lot of fun, but its even better now with Payback. Sure you can't summon as many at a time, but now you can really buff them up with at most I've seen like 21 Might and Fury which is just incredible damage. Plus, you have a lot of damage multipliers, 25 might, quickness and fury on yourself, its mayhem.

 

I actually just put Thieves Guild on autocast (CTRL+Mouse 2) and forget about it. Oh, and Payback will trigger off ambient animals too which are instantly killed by Mug.

I used to have a gimmick build before the changes to improvisation (now it doesn't recharge elite/heal anymore), but it was a deadeye improv/payback/frenzy sigil build. I was using it in WvW with daggerstorm/thieves guild but it's not viable for the purpose I built it for anymore. I used to bring it to big group/zerg fights or fights with plenty of ambients. I mean, it *can* be useable but having the old improv was the perfect storm. The build is ok for pve I guess.
