Is Chronomancer a good and safe choice for solo pve ?

It's good if you use good gear for it. Can generate clones and shatter them like crazy.

I prefer mirage, but Chrono is good too.

My Chronomancer just melts most stuff in Open World.

But I don't know how viable it is for solo'ing group instances.

it has good burst OR good boons, for solo PVE everything works fine tbh, some HoT maps might be rough

Not really. It can be better if you have boons, but you need to do tons of skill clicking and rotations and continuum shift and all that crap to do good DPS, whereas on a reaper you can just shroud and spam and do more damage than a mesmer.

 

Play a Mesmer only if you like the class, not because you're chasing DPS.

If your only concern is DPS, then find a top tier DPS class and play that.

 

And no - raids are not a good reference point because it assumes you'll have 100% uptime on boons, which will never happen in open world.

While I ranger main, probably my most frequently played second class is Mesmer Chrono and at least the build I use I can absolutely solo most open world content including champions, hard HPs, etc. and have a great time doing it.
