VaLee.5102
Seen an NPC saying "What the hell?" in the most recent LS story episode. Since when is "hell" a thing in the GW lore? And before you say "it's a figure of speech", the word itself is not, and you can't build a "figure of speech" without some kind of context or relation to the word itself. Does that mean there's a heaven? Who decides who goes to hell or heaven? What god? Is there a bible? If I've been a bad girl will I go to hell? Erasculio.2914
In Tyria, "Hell" is what people call [part of the Ring of Fire islands](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hell%27s_Precipice). Which is why the [Hellfire armor](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hellfire_armor) looks like molten lava.

Making up cuss words to insert in otherwise English phrases just to show you're using a different language seldom works well. Though "frell" will always live in my heart. So the writers are using terms whose connotations hit the same beats. Here, "what the hell" isn't referring to the religious implications but simply using a common mildly cussing exclamation of surprise to show the Tyrian speaker has done something equivalent in his/her language.
