mercury ranique.2170
I returned to engineer since the latest xpac cause of the elite specialisation. The Holosmoth. Unlike some are saying, metabattle is NOT always the answer as it is not focussed on PvE. To explain the Holosmith. The new weapon is a sword. The DPS is very good, but off course it is a melee range weapon. So not everyone is a fan of it and it also depends on the game mode. The new utility skills are all decent, but they all depend on the rotation of the new mechanic. The real power however is the new mechanic. Photonic forge. It is a kind of kit activated using F5 that replaces the 1-5 skills with pretty powerfull skills. It comes with a powerbar that goes in overheat in the last 15%. The bar is filled over time and by using 1-5 skills. In this overheat state the utility skills are extra powerfull. You can always leave the photonic forge state and the bar will go down over time. When the bar is filled with 100% you explode and will damage yourself. So the most generic gameplay is to use the photonic forge, dps, at final stage hit the utility skills and before full bar get out and let it recharge. However, the final mode is a trait that will change the explosion so you deal less damage to yourself but instead in AoE to your foes. This also requires the bar to go to zero before you can enter again. The amount of damage dealt to foes is one of the highest dps you can get in the game. In generic PvE I had no issue at all to stay alive at melee range, with sword and shield. With the trait that changes the final explosion to also go to AoE foes. Just use the shield skills to prevent incoming enemy bursts during the first seconds after the blast and keep a healing skill available. I do carry an elixer kit with for ranged combat. The damage is ppor, so it is only as a last resort, but I also like the stunbreaker in the tool belt.
