> They don't need evidence. They need to want to ban/suspend you, nothing else. They wanted to suspend people having cheat software active while playing their game. They did. Story over. No justification needed.

>

> As an unrelated note, about the weird "data security" discussion which popped up despite having nothing to do with the process scanning of the PC: Purchases of gems and even the game are made via DigitalRiver. I doubt that ArenaNet even has your payment info when you buy something. Also, they don't need your personal info, address, age, or whatever you may fear might be stolen. All you are to them is an accountname. Or do you remember having to give them any of that info when making your account? Because I sure do not.

So if ANET banned you tomorrow you would be perfectly fine with that?

Cheat engine is not inherently used for cheating as anet admitted themselves "those programs have other, more benign uses."

People who are complaining that data has been sent are probably using things like facebook, whatsapp or steam and only complain for the sake of complaining now.

Also Anet has a department for legal questions and probably made sure that everything was legal.

Doh that's just part of it that's the bit they can and will let us know.. there will be a lot more behind it before and that's the stuff you and I wont get to know about.. for obvious reasons.

They didn't let us know, it was discovered by other people. Anet only mentioned it after it was leaked. Meaning they screwed up.

Oh dear oh dear.. of course it got leaked... it always would of and by who.. the same people who develop the hack because they can monitor the detection their end.. that's why its a game of cat and mouse and why it wont be useable again.. logic is hard I know

No. We know as much as we know about what they used but we do not know anything about what they do internally with it, the processes they go through and what they will be doing next.. if any, which is my concern around all this.. this should be something that becomes a regular thing that drives deeper each time.

Not true at all.

Thanks for playing though!

It is quite nice to see that you can at least admit they didn't say the used spyware, nor are you or the post you're inevitably going to bring up remotely technically accurate.

It is one possibility, it's the least likely possibility as the person who wrote it has an extreme bias seeing as they got caught.

To my haters.

Well enjoy the ban. I hope you take this time to reflect on the futile nature of cheating in an MMO, and keep it to MOBA's where it belongs.

Jokes aside, for those trying to call me ill informed, or whatever, It's clear none of you have been reading the other posts about cheat programs, and the like on these forums, or maybe just stopped in enjoy the salt, and I don't blame you for dismissing those topics and posts, I mean, there is a level of security that comes from being able to get away with something for months, even years, that breeds contempt.

But, if you had followed those posts, you would have known that Gaile Gray explained that they follow accounts for months, not days, not weeks, months and even years, before acting to ensure that they are not just getting some random false positive, or it being some one time fluke. That is why Anet is no longer discussing this. They have done their home work, and gave you all enough time to hang yourself.

That is also why no one who had read any of the other topics about cheaters cares to hear your whines today.

Enjoy your Ban.. **you earned it!**

Solid point.

Uninstall for six months then?

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH... I DON'T like that alleged spyware installed by ANet in myyy computer! But who knows if it's really true? I don't even wanna check reddit for that. In a way I understand that they needed some way to detect spyware BUUUT in leaves me with many questions and.... I REALLy wanna get my trust back! Don't be like ugly corporations! please!

Assuming the banned ones aren't using their not-banned alts, sure. Or else it just becomes "don't use your main account for 6 months". B)

They never said how long they followed the accounts for and they never investigated any accounts manually or individually for cheating. They have already backtracked and said they are now accepting appeals on the suspensions, which pretty much is them admitting fault.

They just saw people were running a perfectly legitimate program with a spooky name cheat engine (Gaile themselves said: those programs have other, more benign uses.) and made an assumption without using their other tools to confirm if people were cheating.

Their software itself would be able to detect when it’s operating outside of its normal parameters. They would just have to turn some sort of trace on to track and record these events. This would be one reason why it would take some time to gather enough information on a given user to ensure they truly were cheating.

They don’t have to “spy” on your computer processes for this. Bye cheaters ?

Anet hasn't violated my trust in the past that I should be suspect of them. I seriously doubt Anet cares or documents anything running on your system other than the cheat tools they're looking for. That it might include someones instance of HuniePop.exe isn't going to be cataloged and used against you.

I certainly hope not at any rate and if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll eat my words and join the resistance. But at the moment it's pretty much looking like 99% of the folks here are just booty bothered they got caught with their pants on their head.

I doubt that ArenaNet even has your payment info when you buy something. Also, they don't need your personal info, address, age, or whatever you may fear might be stolen. All you are to them is an accountname. Or do you remember having to give them any of that info when making your account? Because I sure do not.

>

Irrelevant as I am not having any cheatsoftware open that they would want to ban for. I don't care for hypothetical scenarios that people always bring up when it comes to discussions about actions against cheaters (it is totally the same with discussions about afk farmers)

>

> Cheat engine is not inherently used for cheating as anet admitted themselves "those programs have other, more benign uses."

Irrelevant. You can also not argue that you want to buy a tank and use it to drive to work because you feel safer in it and it can be used "for other, more benign uses" than war. Nor can you argue that you want to enter an airplane with a bread knife in your hands, although that knife was not even made for any evil purpose. All that matters is that the state doesn't want tanks on the street, airlines don't want people with knives on their planes and ArenaNet does not want people in their game who have these programs open while playing.

5 hours this post was released https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/8c2j0y/a_technical_analysis_of_the_spyware_arena_used/, ANET comes out with their own post stating "1516 accounts were suspended because we detected that the accounts were running Guild Wars 2 at the same time as one or more of the following programs over a significant number of hours during a multi-week period earlier this year. " The program was covertly inserted into the update on March 6th and was pulled out on March 27th to gather information without mentioning it on their builds/updates. So Yes it's a spyware.

Also Anet has the slowest support reply time of all MMOs and they said "no appeals" meaning they did no due diligence or process, or they would be open to share it. They already revealed their method, not that it was hidden, other people realized their method sooner than their announcement.

Why would you say something like that unless you were a part of the hacker community?
