You have to kill ambient creatures for the Howler I legendary collection as well so it wasn't a surprise to me that they did it.

I just complete the quests without it. So for that quest, I kill about 5 max if the area is quiet but mainly focus on burning the bushes or the event with the Mutated Rats. For the Heart at the WP, that requires Awakened Spies, I complete the escort for the Rez-o-matic and then gather tasteless roots. That way if I have to, I only kill the 2 ambient awakened spies that appear by the heart NPC. So you don't have kill the ambients but you can if you want.

That is so very good to know.

To be fair, i'm sure a lot of people would like GW2 to skip Heart Tasks as endgame like they originally set out to do.

Instead they've walked that back because they had to cater to people who couldn't go without it and now we're all shackled to a poor system.

burning crops took a minute and finished 75% of the heart alone, toppling two statues in houses were 10% each... took me 3 minutes total to do the entire heart there. The awakened spies are just one option, and the absolute slowest one, say, running a single corsair supply from the beach which does about 25% of the heart itself... and can be done in conjunction with the corsair heart itself. Gathering and dropping off roots also gave way more completion and can't be grabbed by other players.

That's not why there's heart tasks (currently), but I can understand that people arent always interested in them.

KIlling Awakened was the fastest way for me. I don't own said teleport device (yet). ;)

The undead chicken (a.k.a. Awakened Spies) don't provide much progress indeed for this heart.

I think this thread mixes the two different hearts in the western part. :) Torching crops and zapping rats for meat is the northern one. Tasteless roots, supplies and zapping other ambient creatures in the "town" is the southern one. It's the southern one I find is too slow.

I'm ok with both, just wished that collection stuff (like the tasteless roots) would increase the progress a bit faster.

Actually Tenrat should be Elevenrat because at the start of the event there are already 10 rats. After you kill some of those Tenrat shows up.

There are several ways to get progress to the heart. If you dont like killing the critters, you are free to use the other methods.

I like it the way it is. The more options you have to complete a heart, the better.
