At least for Mentor this already is the case. If a player with active Mentor joins or opens a squad, s/he loses the symbol automatically. And this is the only downside of the Mentor symbol. A Mentor who indicates an event or something else has to stay solo to be visible all the time.

Besides that squads with 10 members only also do not necessarily need a commander for managing purposes, every squad-member can drag her/his own squad symbol to create or join a subgroup. E.g. when we do internal guild raids we usually do not have any player with the cdr tag up.

Few things:

1) How is a Commander Tag "repetitive" or "unnecessary"? For one thing, Players who buy them (and not for cheap, mind you - 300g is ALOT for some) usually do with some purpose in mind. And for another, it isn't content. It's an *item*, with a bit more functionality than a skin.

2) If you have such an issue with "bad" commanders... what's stopping you from leaving the squad? No one is forcing you to stay. You aren't tied to that player. You're not a prisoner.

3) What a player does with their tag *is not* and *never ever will be* your business. Your business is:

~to choose whether or not to follow the tag you see

~ to either *be a nice helpful player* and offer *polite* advice when a "bad" commander messes up or go away

~and to leave them be if they actually don't want you following them for whatever reason.

1) This exists.

2) No. What about people who are using it for a smaller group of people and want to use markers? Or announcements? I do this as a roleplayer. One chat is DM/OOC chatter, the other is player RP.

3) Maybe. I'd think no, because a)it would be difficult to implement and b) what if it's just someone marking a thing for players?

This is complete non-sense since theres any kind of "commanders competition" on maps. In Dragon Stand or any map theres no 10 commanders fighting to see who will lead the map.

This would only make sense if it is to give a sense of progression, which is thing is a missing a lot in this game, especially those who plays all game-modes.

A some sort of "medal system" like recent hoi4 general traits, would be welcome. commanders who spent hours in wvw would receive a medal " wvw leader" or "world boss bane" for those lead world boss events, and so on. the medal would be exibited on character name side like the pvp ones or world completion .
