Does anybody actually enjoy playing personal story/living world?

Generally speaking I don't play an MMO for the story and would equally not enjoy the stories of SWTOR, WoW, LOTRO, DDO, BDO etc. I play single player games for story, I play multiplayer games including MMOs for the gameplay or to spend time with friends.

nope nope nope not at all, I cant stand the long conversations most of the time I don't even pay attention to really understand whats going on,i just kill stuff when they spawn, stories are just not my thing. But some are definatelt fun! when it some one to fighting bosses like balthazar or that mordremoth guy, some times I like the parts that challenges you (sometimes)

I typically do them all at least once. The writing is hit or miss, but the overall narrative ties the game together so you need to do it at least the first time. If you ever want to repeat it though, the unskippable dialogue and cheeseball scripted fights make it unbearable.

The personal story is so infuriating. Especially the delivery, those goddamn dialog cutscenes just had me skip the dialog after two or three missions the first time I played it. Also, nothing needs to be said about the Zhaitan fight.

Imo, from LWS2 it was very enjoyable, although there were still some annoying missions, and many mechanics were just recycled (kill this thing, escort this dude, run there etc.), but I was happy when the characters finally started talking in the overworld.

Aah, I'd forgotten that that cinematic had a "canonical" version of the Pact Commander in it. (I've only watched it once, and my reaction was basically "that didn't tell me anything!" Then I watched the three-hour version on YouTube.) Vigil seems like the most fitting choice, since the Commander will "[just relentlessly smash things until they're no longer at odds with you.](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/A_Meeting_of_Ministers#Dialogue "You just relentlessly smash things until they're no longer at odds with you.")"

Yeah, it was that or an Elonian male as seen in the trailers for PoF and LWS4. Since LWS1 happened first, that was what we decided on. :p

Another reason I chose Vigil is because of Forgal ( Forgal's my favorite of the three mentors :P ).

Everyone who doesn't gets told the game isn't for them and they should probably leave...

Asking if people enjoy the story here is pretty meaningless.

Personally I find the entire story is pretty dull. It's like watching a mediocre movie with the illusion of having personal input - great if you wanna roleplay without any freedom but pretty meh otherwise.

Actual choices in the story mode haven't existed since vanilla. Every story is a lot of drama about how awful these new enemies are... and as soon as you hit them three times they just die. The newer story modes use fancier moves but they're still not punishing in any way if you ignore them.

I understand story can't be hard nor diverse, so i accept it's not content for me. Just wish i could access maps / reward tracks / other content without being gated / forced to "play" (aka click) through it half afk. Also that there's not really any other content anymore.

Maps, you can via TP to friend.

But I also wish Story wasn't forced to unlock collections.

Try asking for WvW updates. Oh wait. Or PvP updates. Oh wait. Or more raids. Challenging content. Anything that isn't hypercasual.

Ah yes. Even on reddit criticising the game is typically downvoted. We'd rather not have these posts. That said I'd say the dismay from players towards the content releases is (finally?) increasing.

Fair enough for the maps. They just give me me no reward tracks for PvP or WvW. I don't want to play the maps, there's nothing on these maps for me. Just more story-level gameplay. I don't consider collections or PvE meta's much more fun. I don't want gold and there will never be any type of combat or challenge in openworld PvE that requires players to fully use their toolkit. If there was these forums would blow up. Oh wait they blew up over pocket raptors which weren't exactly challenging to deal with either.

So for all intents and purposes, I just need the reward tracks which are locked behind... 30 minutes of netflix. I mean story mode ;). 5k+ hours ingame and I don't think my account has vanilla story finished... Tried to get to zhaitan once and I dc'd after more than 30 minutes of nearly full AFK gameplay on some kind of spaceship / boat. When I re-entered i had to restart the full instance. Just left it and never bothered again. Not my thing.

That said nowadays I don't really need "every" new reward track. Most of them offer nothing new over the last one other than a few skins which literally everyone grinds anyways, so they're far from unique or special. I've skipped a few story episodes because cba.

I think I just play the LW stuff out of habit nowadays. It's pretty low on my list of things to do, and I usually bang new episodes out in a couple of hour if nothing else is going on. The problem is that any interesting twists that could be taken just aren't. I kept expecting something really astounding to happen during Long Live the Lich from how it progressed, but the game kept backing down from that challenge.

I just play them to "not miss out" and then for achievement stuff. I really do not enjoy the storytelling. Even when something interesting is going, for me all is ruined by "the commander". Smug, detached, sarcastic - and not in a cool Snake Plisken kinda way, more like teenager in whatever-mode - feels terribly out of place in most instances.

Yes. I like the story missions. I like the core story. I like the Heart of Thorns story . I like the Path of Fire story. I like the living story.

The only thing I don't like is that you have to do it for all characters if you want to go to all the maps. I enjoy the story but when you have to do over 10 times for all the characters it becomes a bit much. I know you can grind the scroll stuff but it would be nice if you could go to the story maps with your alts using some kind of portal/ship/airship once your have unlocked with your main character.

Its a flash back that sets up an evil character. Thats the point. You are replaying someone else's memories. How would you have it work? It is just 2-3 missions that are establishing past events. It is fully understandable no to like the story they are showing but being is annoyed at a linear story is being linear or because the story makes you use different skills and you ""cannot use your character" for like two missions out of the 8 sounds like whining. Just take the time to finish them, move on and you never have to do them again and no harm done. Just like a bad episode on a TV series.

I like the concept, and the story is occasionally enjoyable. But playing it? Hell no. It's, by far, the worst slice of gameplay GW2 has on offer. Original personal story started good, but devolved into something absurdly boring and horrendous in Orr. LW2 and HoT were tolerable, but LW3? PoF? LW4? Dear god, those fucking boss fights. They are literally impossible to fail. They are retardedly long. They are full of stunlocks. They are visually torturous. Grrrr...

I enjoyed the POF story and the Living World season 4. Then I went back to the HOT story and didn't like it at all. I'm not entirely sure why, except that I felt overwhelmed by the number of enemies in the HOT story, and I didn't like that, for example, Marjory would revive me, but not fight, or Rytlock would fight but not revive. POF felt more like I was part of a team.

When I was playing Caithe, I actually thought I was playing the actual thief profession with those skill sets. I was like "So this is how thief plays, pretty cool", it turns out I was wrong and disappointed cause I actually find her skill set pretty fun compared to the boring one from the thief profession and looks nothing like Caithe's :anguished:. Ranger comes a bit closer to that skill set with sword and axe, so I guess that will do.

I hate doing quests in general. Anything that is linear/directed unknown path, like any story instances. I also hate boss fights. Or any fights I _have_ to do. So no, I can't stand them.

The only story things I have interest in are the options chosen in character creation which end at level 20, and that's only because it's about the background of my characters and/or their culture.

I just tried the bit in season 2 where you have to be a rogue (Caithe) all of a sudden, even if you never play a rogue because you hate playing rogue, well tough luck, you're playing a rogue, and you have to stealth and knock everybody out, and we're disabling all your combat skills, and oh, for some of the mobs you arbitrarily can't knock them out, have fun.

It's like watching a bad movie that you not only can't fast forward, but you have to manually crank the reel/spin the disc until it's over and no, we won't let you leave until it's over. Even when it's done (and see below), there's no sense of accomplishment because the setup is so arbitrary and obnoxious.

Personal story has been a part of GW2 since day 1, even in GW... you new or something? If you don't like it don't play it.

There are plenty RPGs and MMORPGs out there, leave this one alone and let ANet do what they do and the rest of us whom enjoy it alone.
