[Suggestion] Lucky Charms

Recommended Posts

Problem: The low drop rate of charms and symbols makes crafting minor runes and sigils prohibitively expensive for new players and lower-level characters.

Problem: There is no luck sink for people who have maxed out their Magic Find.

Suggestion: Why not make a way to trade luck in for charms and symbols, either via a vendor or some type of 'eater' like Princess, Mawdry and the Star of Gratitude? The people with stockpiled luck could cash in (initially bringing down the TP prices to something reasonable) and would continue to use that outlet to supply the TP.

At the moment, there are 6 different charms and symbols, and three of them cost over a gold piece. (Two cost more than 2 gold pieces each.)

Major|Minor runes & sigils remain available on the TP at budget prices, which is fine for lower-level characters. The market will eventually saturate with charms & symbols, for the same reason it was previously saturated with runes & sigils. The difference is that the resulting mats have some value.

In addition, all sorts of crafting product is exceptionally cheap on the TP.

Is it a problem? It's an annoyance, sure. But the system works as intended: people don't have to worry about spending luck on anything other than account magic find.

The market is new, supplies are low relative to demand. That is going to change over time.

The GW2 economy has always meant that we get a ton of stuff we don't need (or necessarily want), which we can exchange for the stuff we do want. And we can choose whether to craft or to trade. In some markets, the first is always going to be much cheaper; in some cases the other. That doesn't mean there's an issue.

To be clear, I'm not convinced that ANet set up the various recipes well. I'm not sure whether the drops rates are sufficient to establish a happy medium equilibrium, balancing the value of the stuff we sell against the stuff we buy.

What I am convinced is that even ANet is going to need a few months of watching the markets (and how much we hoard). It's too soon to know if there's an issue or not. Transitions are always rough, especially after a major market disruption like the one that just (critically) hit us.

Less useful runes that used to sell for 19 coppers are now between 1-2 silver. More popular runes that used to be between 1 and 2 silver are now 4-10 silver, possibly higher by now. There is no more incoming supply under the current system, which means that the prices will only continue to go up from now on.

No. The market was previously saturated with runes and sigils because they dropped from every other thing you salvaged and clogged up your inventory. Charms and symbols drop extremely rarely, and go into material storage, so there is no reason to sell them even if you don't want them, except for the inflated prices.

Considering that there have been threads on this forum complaining about it regularly since i started playing, there are clearly people who see it as a problem.

Not at the current drop rate.
