While I generally agree, I think it's a problem that they can only be crafted in multiples of 5, while only Exotic crafting actually uses even multiples of 5. A full set of Masterwork armor requires 6 patches, while a full set Rare armor requires 12.

Make the recipe produce 1 patch from 1 cloth and 2 leather (or even better, 1:1) instead - *then* it would match dowels.

I agree except there are some annoying situations. The gossamer patches are crafted 5 at a time but some stuff uses different amounts of them.

The short story is that there's a hard limit on how many things can be added to material storage, a permanent cap for the lifetime of the game. ANet decided to reject the addition of certain categories of items to prevent hitting that limit too quickly.

(Incidentally, ANet has never shared how close we are to that cap. And keep in mind: with every LS episode, we're adding 1+ new items; with every expansion, we're adding a lot more.)

As a result, "it would be nice" or "it would be convenient" is not a sufficient argument to change the status quo _for this particular inconvenience_.

Personally, I'm not at all against the idea. I'm pointing out that it's an uphill battle, as the developer championing the biggest overhaul to storage since launch wrote (quote below). Make a strong case for why it belongs and I'm sure it will be considered.

Here's what @"LinseyMurdock.4165" wrote about material storage during the period before she overhauled it. To make navigation easier, I've added _some of the_ headings, emphasis, or spoiler markup. The rest of the text is verbatim.
