What about speculation? There has to be some logic on why it is the way it is.

There isn't any spoken lore about that area besides being a very high temperature hot springs (which leads the icebrood to hate it, and for some reason, the quaggans who thrived in the arctic weather and cannot survive warmer waters to love it - yay consistency!).

That said, there are a lot of jotun monuments surrounding those two hot springs, so they're likely related to the gate. All in all, it seems that this hot springs was manually made, and the jotun are a strong suspect for its makers.

hm? was that mentioned anywhere?

besides, humans like saunas, despite the fact that sitting in one too long will kill them. Humans also like to soak in hot water, despite the fact that this can kill them.

It's mentioned in one of the open world arctic quaggan areas. Either Snowden or Frostgorge, not sure where exactly but want to say Snowden. But it's one of the major plights of the northern quaggans - Jormag's making the water too cold for them, but going too far south is entering water that's too warm and they're getting sick and eggs aren't hatching as often as they should due to the warmer temperatures.
