“ NCsoft talked up the western console and mobile market”

Anet probably has both console and mobile in the works... There were, iirc, 3 projects on hold when the layoffs happened, then after that NC injected money into NC West.

If you don’t want Anet to grow, then you don’t want Anet to survive... and that means GW2 has a much shorter lifecycle

That's your own made up definition of what regular means. We get a patch every 2 weeks roughly and content updates every 2 months as of right now. I'd agree if we still had 4 month cycles.

Irrelevant, that's NCSoft not ArenaNet. Whatever it is that ArenaNet is working on, they are not hiring for a "mobile" position that you insist of pushing.

Right, adding stuff to the Black Lion Chest and Trading Post is considered updates now, I forgot. My bad. You win.

NC owns Anet. GW2 may be posting for console devs, but they also hired for mobile devs too...

https://kotaku.com/guild-wars-2-developer-arenanet-plans-for-mass-layoffs-1832799804

Songyee Yoon, the CEO of Korean publisher NCSoft West, which owns ArenaNet, e-mailed employees this afternoon with the news. “Our live game business revenue is declining as our franchises age, delays in development on PC and mobile have created further drains against our revenue projects, while our operating costs in the west have increased,” she wrote. “Where we are is not sustainable, and is not going to set us up for future success.”

“Around 400 people work at ArenaNet, and for the past few years they’ve been working on a number of unannounced projects”

https://massivelyop.com/2019/08/03/ncsoft-q2-2019-financials-guild-wars-2-may-be-eyeing-a-mobile-version-again/

“In this past week’s Q2 2019 financial report, NCsoft mentioned that ArenaNet was evaluating “internal reviews on several projects” such as a mobile version of Guild Wars 2.”

https://steparu.com/latest-news/2402-lineage-eternal-gets-upgraded-to-unreal-engine-4-and-delayed-significantly

“Also mentioned various secret titles in development such as Guild Wars 2 mobile that's in the development and on the fence if they should go forward with the project or not depending the current market situation.”

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-04-16-speaking-with-guild-wars-2-developer-arenanet-for-the-first-time-since-the-lay-offs

Q- “But now two fairly big unannounced projects have been cancelled - big enough to have occupied 143 people, anyway - how does ArenaNet go about following Guild Wars 2? Can it now cope with a theoretical Guild Wars 3?"

A- "We've always got - we're always working on some other stuff," the ArenaNet PR said.

"Every studio does," Murdock echoed.

"It's the way you future-proof the studio," the PR said.

Q-And what, specifically, happens to those unannounced - are they dead forever more, or shelved for another time?

A-"We would prefer to think of them as shelved," Murdock said.”

Ah, this thread. Well, I strongly doubt that console game they are going to work on will be a Guild Wars title.

What does this have to do with class? It was a mere assumption, no insult. And wasn't that quote taken from a different thread? A merger again?

One of the Anet staff I follow on Twitter, Jennifer Scheurle, has said periodically since before that happened that she doesn't work on GW2, said during the layoffs that she and the project she's worked on got to stay and recently linked to this job saying it's part of her team.

>

We'll hear about it in time, and I'm glad to hear they're doing something. Being a one-title company for nearly 20 years starts to look a bit risky when that title is past its best.

I might be able to finish some of the other games that have been sitting unplayed in the meanwhile. Maybe?
