Because that’s what these posts are usually about. When they claim more uses, they really more uses that provide gold.

I made this suggestion a few times long ago. I'd like to see an option for PvE reward tracks that have spirit shards. Let us use our PvE XP bar for the same reward tracks as PvP and WvW but exchange the end box content to something else, say more Advanced Materials or Strike Mission rewards and RAID rewards ;)

If everyone was willing to use the MF to convert spirit shards to gold, they would instantly become worthless. There are way too many spirit shards in the game, so they definitely need other uses.
