Drizzt.1796
The Stalker Elite Specialization allows a thief player to wield a longbow. Signets are replaced with Glyphs. Steal is replaced with Grab. New Thief Elite Specialization for **TIS** (**T**he **I**cebrood **S**aga) Stalkers are the most feared things in the Shiverpeaks. They could be in front of you, on side of you, above you, or behind you, and you wouldn't know it. Longbow Skills: Skill 1: Weakening Shot Fire an arrow that gives the targeted foe Vulnerability. Stealth Attack for Skill 1: Charge an exploding shot that knocks down your foe when you hit. Skill 2: Blinding Powder Fire a cluster of powder with your arrow to blind foes near the target area. Skill 3: Repeating Arrows Rapidly shoot arrows at your enemy. You may be moving while using this skill as it does not interrupt it. Skill 4: Dodge-hit Shoot an arrow at your foe while moving backwards. Skill 5: Stealth Shoot Shoot at your foe and stealth yourself. Glyphs: Healing: Glyph of Restoration Heal yourself and gain Regeneration. Utility Skill: Glyph of Protection: Block an attack and gain Aegis and Protection. Glyph of Rage: +10 damage to your attacks. If you aren't interrupted for this, you gain Fury. Glyph of Escape: Gain Superspeed, and Shadowstep to your target area. Elite Skill: Glyph of Warning: Block attacks, make an area around yourself, and stealth. Proffesion specific skill: Grab Steal an item from your foe and inflict confusion. Sir Vincent III.1286
How exactly are you going to "grab" someone 1200 range away? Nevertheless, the next Elite Thief Spec should be a close range magic user using Shadow Arts called Shadow Thief-- not the art of stealth and shadowstep, but an art that manipulates and control shadow magic. If the Necro can raise undead army, the Shadow Thief can raise the Shadow Army (see [shadow Army](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadow_Army)). This time, the Thief is no longer stealing material things, the Deadeye have opened this possibility. When the Shadow Thief steals from a Warrior, they steal the shadow of the Warrior and summon a Shadow Warrior instead of creating stolen items -- so pressing F2 will summon the shadow. Thus if you take Improvisation from DA, you can summon 2 Shadow Warriors to fight by your side.

So, how would a Thief summon things, they aren't very magic oriented, much less studying enough to summon things.

Deadeye changed all that with the confirmation of Shadow Magic whenever they use their Deadeye Mark (creating items using magic) and cantrips (aka magic). True, but a deadeye still isn't that magic oriented. its only used for 2 things, the Mark, and the Cantrips. so still, not very magic oriented. That's why a Shadow Thief is inevitable, who is a true Shadow Magic user. If Elementalist can take the Thief's Dual-wield mechanic, Mesmer can take the stealth mechanic, and Guardian can take the shadowstep mechanic, the Thief can easily take the magic user mechanic and become a Shadow Thief. How is a Thief _not_ a magic user? Stealth and Thieves' Shadow steps, as well as the 'new' shadow portal (probably even more tools) **are** Shadow Magic. Every profession in Guild Wars lore uses magic to some extend, even warriors.

ProtoGunner.4953
Never understood such concept idea; you put in a lot of time and it doesn't produce, help etc. nothing. It very likely won't come to fruition and the time is just wasted. Also, with a Cantha oriented expansion Assassin would be more likely.

We can already build Assassin. What the Cantha expansion will bring might be an evolved version of the Assassin who specializes in Shadow Magic. Shiro doesn't just use Shadow Arts, he uses Shadow Magic -- Shiro'ken's are his version of Shadow Army. Shadow Art's evolution to full-fledged Shadow Magic is inevitable.
