  1. I've been away from the game for several years now. Three or four, if I recall correctly. Came back when I heard about the newest expansion coming out. I started a new character since I also wanted a fresh start. And to remember how to play, if I'm going to be honest. Must admit I'm delightfully surprised at how lively the game still is as far as population.

I still love playing solo, but I also love seeing others around because it tells me the game is still very much alive and kicking.

  2. My wife and I quit about two years ago. Maybe more. I was a regular on these forums but finally gave up for the reasons explained below. So take what I say with a grain of salt. The content drought did me in slow. I'm a big believer in Living Story, and its near-monthly updates whether large or small. Chasing the newest carrots kept me interested. But the demand for an expansion killed that quick as there was nothing to chase for over a year. Yet I held on. Rehashing old seasonal content wore off my interest after the third year. Hit the daily AP cap and found no reason to play other than to log in with hopes that the cap would be increased. It didn't happen. And then ANet kept nerfing classes with each patch in PvE due to complaints in PvP over and over again. That was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Guild Wars 2 was my longest-played MMO to date, and I have many fond memories of this game, but I honestly don't think anything will bring me back. I returned to see what's been going on since some advertisements hit my e-mail box to tempt me, but the magic is gone.

Best bet? Guild Wars 3 or something similar. I'm afraid the ship has sailed for too many players to bring them back to Guild Wars 2 now. And after recent events? I think ANet thinks so too.

I think we all know the reason in your example, but that discussion can only be had elsewhere . . . and thus the reason.

Um . . . clearly, we're playing different games. Here's some of the newest content over the last three months:

Again, that's from March to today. Maybe you missed it?

Edit: On a side note, mad respect for Dulfy. <3

    > This approach is an interesting idea I suppose, but for someone who seeks to experience the story through the eyes and ears of a single character, immersed in one main character, it just leads to a lot of, "who is this? where did this come from? why am I supposed to care about this? this character/plot device seems to be coming out of nowhere" and so on.

    >

But it's proven to be a successful one if you think about it. It's how Avengers built its movie franchise. In order to understand everything, you pretty much have to watch all the movies. While not necessary, it sure does help! I think the same applies to these games. Most people will have no idea what the ghostly scene in Sand Swept Isles means. But for those that played Nightfall? It's a huge, emotional callback.

To me, it's the little things like that that make Guild Wars 2 special.

    > Notable: SWTOR's Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion (2.0, released in 2013) includes "flirtable" NPCs who are homosexual (Lord Cytharat, on the Imperial side, is gay, and Lemda Avesta, on the Republic side, is lesbian). The Shadow of Revan expansions around 3.00 (2014) include two NPCs who are "playersexual", receptive to flirts by either male or female player characters. One is male, the other is female. Knights of the Fallen Empire (4.0, 2015) changed those two to "companions", and they are still flirtable.

    >

    > Various NPCs are flirtable by the player, and it is trivially simple to find that *your character* is (a) fickle, and (b) bisexual.

Interesting. Very informative. While not an MMO, you can have similar interactions in Dragon Age. Again, thank you for posting this. I had no idea this was possible in SWTOR.

    > It's damaging for balance as a whole to have one class so far ahead of the rest for a given role. Ranger is by far my favorite class overall but I don't want it to be overpowered, then it just attracts more nerfs.

Again, in PvE? What does that matter? And have you not been paying attention to everything that has been happening to this class? Any _more nerfs_, and ANet might as well delete the class. At this point, my only hope is that the next expansion brings us a better elite and better pets that makes this normalization have some kind of sense.

Otherwise, arguing that somehow ranger will damage 'balance' as a whole is so ridiculous it's almost comical. Any ranger who has played this game for any length of time knows ranger has never gotten a fair shake at this game. That isn't going to suddenly change in PvE because of one pet.

And, again, as far as PvP? ANet can gut the class to the bone. Already has. So this huge nerf won't make a hill of beans of difference again in PvP. In PvE? It's grossly unfair to fix a 'bug' and then make the pet even worse a week after the bug fix.

    Completely ridiculous.

You went there. Not me. Again, that's all on you. Please don't try to turn that around like I'm the one who brought it up. Your words. Not mine. And honestly? I have no idea where all this rage is coming from. Again . . . I agree with you. Period. And I have no idea why you want to pick a fight. But after this post? My apologies for agreeing with you., but you can be sure we will have no further interactions again.

    >

I have all the original expansions and game, but I think that Guild Wars 2 is the better game because of the original. To me, the first games were a testing ground for basic ideas. Keep in mind, without the first game and its story, we wouldn't be here to discuss it. In short, I think the first game helped make the second one a better game due to the foundation it set as far as quality.

Either way, I think both games are fantastic, but I do have a preference for the newer one. Full disclosure? I've stuck with this game longer than any other MMO. =)

  9. @"AnariiUK.7409" There is no way on God's green Earth this nerf is justified in PvE. Are the mobs now complaining the pet is hitting them too hard? Are players complaining that the added damage is killing mobs too quick? Are rangers suddenly taking over with certain events?

Come on. We all know why this happened, and it wasn't because of complaints in PvE. Yes, please revert this change in PvE or at least bring other pets to the same standard in PvE.

Again, ANet can do whatever it wants in PvP.

No, you're fine. In fact, I wish more posters would be as respectful and professional as you have been in this thread. One poster's opinion does not make it so or true. It's their opinion. And my opinion is that you're an excellent asset and example for the community. :)

    Keep fighting the good fight.

  11. Let's put it this way: Let's say, for example, I want ANet to open a forum area to do the same thing this thread suggests? Yeah . . . I get trolled enough, thank you. I'd rather not have an open invitation for it anywhere. :#

Granted, I think the intention is honorable, but I know players will abuse it to no end. Questionable pet and guild names, anyone? ;)

  12. Just . . .wow.

Edit: On a side note, please don't tell me to use more precise language when your posts are full of spelling and grammar errors. Not nice to throw stones in a glass house and all. :)

That said, yes, financial success does trump quality every time when we speak of MMOs or games in general. That's kind of the point of making games these days . . . to make money for the company. Games that don't tend not to stick around. Didn't think that point needed to be voiced, but sure.

A better _quality_ game doesn't mean it's worse than a better _money-making_ game, but it sure does help the latter stay around longer than the former.

  13. @"Imba.9451" Is there something about me agreeing with you that you didn't understand? Once more, I don't argue with success financial or otherwise. And no, I never equated quality in any way, shape, or form. You are. And yes, comparing the two games is nonsense. Again, your words. At this point, you're more or less fighting with your own points and counterpoints.

That doesn't strike you as a wee bit strange?
