  1. I know there might be contractual and business reasons why you want accounts/users to be ANet acquired vs Steam acquired and may want to restrict payment/wallet options depending on the user/account creation method. But could you still look into linking accounts to provide single sign on/friends list integration, and allow all clients to be account source agnostic while still maintaining payment separation?

Also you should double check your store listing data to make sure the developer and publisher id's are consistent between GW2 and the original Guild Wars listing on Steam...

  2. Dragons intentionally rip the magic out of the living and destroy magic using civilizations, but I think it is because it is the only way they know to restore magical balance, and over the vast number of dragon rises, that is just what they have become accustomed to.

I am largely basing this on what Kralkatorric said in his final instance

    >I only hope that you never have to kill what you love.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Descent#Dialogue

This makes me think of Kralkatorric's torment. Glint, when purified has a tremendous amount of empathy to mortals, and Aurene was also able to be raised to be the same. I think that lineage of dragons have shared that personality. They dragons nurtured the planet to provide magic and life, but when the life gets out of hand they have to reign it in. That process of nurturing life, then having to reigning it in, perverted their consciences. For Kralkatorric this conflict expresses as the torment that afflicted him. I think Jormag is also in some sort of perverse state of mind. Perhaps in a cat lady kind of way (don't mind the charr). Trying to herd all the helpless mortals into a home, but proving a horrendous existence in that house.

So they might have been just maintaining the order in their world, but they also have sentience and a conscience of some sort. They may have even had a sense of accomplishment and love with nurturing life at first. But, regardless of the past, they now use very perverse methods to keep the world in one piece.

And that is also a part of Glint's legacy according to Vlast. To do the natural order balancing, but without killing everything to do it by having mortals take on that role.

  3. They can't just chuck the game on Steam, without much fanfare either...

Steam is a big marketing platform, but old games are hard to market, and you need a marketing plan of your own to really synergies with a new platform.

I guess EA just chucked ToR on Steam, in a kinda silly way. But at least they chucked it on there with a bunch of other games, and there was a bit of media coverage because a lot of people are aware of the history between EA and Steam. Not to mention riding on the tail of "Jedi: Fallen Order being" the first EA game on Steam in a while.

The thing is, if ANet releases on steam, they have to be laser focused on expanding their audience... and the last two expansions, well I don't think that happened. The way they treat living world, it ain't good for new players. They next expansion could be the best time to have partner platforms with a marketing push. It will be the first release since the major "reset" at NC Soft West, so we will just have to see how they want to sell this game into the future.

  4. Considering the mounting death toll on new, old, and (perhaps) loved characters by Jormag. It got me thinking about Zhitans domain and how now other dragons, including Jormag can or have use it.

Specifically, it seems that the freeing up of death corruption to all other dragons, allows them, even though most don't seem to normally deal with corpses, to corrupt the dead. For example, Kralkatorric has put it to good use.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Death-Branded_Hessper_Sasso

Perhaps the other dragons can't do this too, how often, depending on access to the domain, but it has precedence, and I wonder if the dragons can strategically use this to corrupt powerful minions who would have otherwise been unavailable to the dragon. Either already dead, or otherwise resistant to the dragon's domain of corruption (but not death). We haven't, yet, seen death-infused icebrood that can raise the dead, like some of Kralkatorric's lieutenants could.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Death-Branded_Lieutenant

But, Jormag had been toying with it already it seems.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Champion_Unstable_Abomination

It seems to be a real possibility for Jormag to use death magic and make a new kind of minion.

How likely will we see even greater use of this type of mixed corruption by Jormag? Do you think it would be a complementary method of corruption to Jormag's persuasion?

And with that, here is some wild speculation.

The idea of resurrecting the dead fully fits into Jormags promise to be benevolent protector and preserver of the world and inhabitants. It also opens up more avenues for corruption, those who can't be persuaded, can be killed and risen. Considering the pool of bodies to Jormag could turn into, lets call them, "awakened icebrood", Jormag could go from manipulating people's mind with persuasion, to also manipulating hearts with the promise to bring back the departed. And it could be unstoppable.

    Cinder (for Ryland), Smodur, Almorra...

Under Jormag all that you have lost, can return, and all that you love will never leave your side.

Also, Taimi is still dying from disease...

    > so if for example your camera is facing north and you press ↓ your character would run/walk towards the south instead of walking backwards while facing north like what the default movement scheme is. basically the ↑, →, ↓, ← keys all make you run towards the respective direction much like a console platformer game

    >

    > if they can implement a movement scheme like that alongside controller support i can imagine it would eliminate or lessen the issues you mention since this type of movement scheme works more naturally with controllers where you don't have a mouse to make more precise camera movements

    >

Action camera in GW2 allows the character run in all directions independent of the camera. It pretty much allows you to control the character in they way you would expect with a twin stick control style (including wasd + mouse).

Some channeled attacks force the character to face whatever the camera is targeting, and this is still enforced in action camera.

But there is an issue with ground targeted pre-casts hindering action camera moment more than if using normal + free camera mode.

Ground targeted pre-cast in action camera forces the character to face the camera forward direction even though there is no character facing requirement for ground targeted abilities in the normal camera. If (in action camera) you spin the camera quickly to align your movement and camera forward direction after targeting an ability you can mitigate this effect during the pre-cast.

  6. It is still interesting that, in Bangar's context, he presents it is evidence that he was destined to kill Aurene's champion. And it is a bit funny that 'One charr' on it's own, is used in the figurative sense to celebrate the charr in the prologue.

I guess its use in multiple ways can highlight how words can change their meaning based on how it is read. Some forms of persuasion certainly leverage that.

  7. Well, with the new episode I just realized something.

Previously after Bangar incapacitates the commander.

    >Bangar Ruinbringer: It was always gonna end this way.

    >Bangar Ruinbringer: One charr. One dragon. One champion.

Bangar says this phrase when he is sure he is about the eliminate the crystal dragon's champion.

This phrase is brought back in the current release.

With it's re-use as a chapter title in the latest episode, I am going to consider it a very important idea.

With it's context to commanders seeming demise, I have to also consider taking it more broadly broadly. Meaning one champion across Tyria. Which also makes me realize that 'One dragon' can be read at face value. There is only one dragon champion in Tyria, because there is only one Elder Dragon in Tyria.

This seems to be Jormags idea conveyed to Bangar. But, if Jormag is entertaining that such an idea is possible, then one could assume Aurene is also be able to do that and are we going to flip Jormag's plan to make Aurene the one dragon as feared?

How this can be done without destabilizing the balance of magic is yet to be seen.

I guess, there is one caveat, 'One charr' is a figurative form of speech.

Meaning all charr acting as one. Following that then. this staement means.

Elder dragons acting as one. And

    Their champions acting as one.

Likely meaning Bangar misunderstood the meaning of the phrase before attempting to kill a rival dragon's champion (Egotistical prick recites a phrase like prophecy without realizing what it means, suits him and his current predicament).

So, Jormag is going to want to ally with Aurene. The six human gods attempt to act together, so maybe the dragons could too.

Although Braham's prophecy/fate is a bit of a wrench in that plan (might not be that big of a deal in some people's opinions I guess)...

I am not sure I like the story moving towards either interpretation...

Of course the phrase could be simply a deception by Jormag along with all of it's other gestures.

Ryland did not to help her.

And... he couldn't even protect his own warband during his own war.

Whatever he is trying to do, he has become quite pathetic getting there.

    > I'm not against it unless it impedes or delays future content. This is very much way, way low down the priority list vs actual content.

Hopefully a new engine could improve the development of content. Right now, it seems that some types of content require tremendous amounts of work, QA, and tweaking to ensure it goes into the game without bugs. As part of remastering, I'd think ANet could go to the drawing board, and re-think, how they design, create, implement, and render different types of content to create a concise workflow with greater efficiency. Perhaps new licenced technologies or engines exists that can push the tools for the content team to another level.

The technology isn't simply about what runs on a client computer to put the pixels on the screen. Behind the engine is a chain of tools and processes that work behind the scenes to get content ready for the engine. The back and front of this content pipeline could be very intricately, and interdependently put together. And as a part of an exercise in changing engines, or remastering content, can be to rebuild this pipeline to be more efficient.

I don't think games companies talk in detail of how their technologies have helped or hurt their process. It is probably somewhat proprietary information. But, my optimism is that, a push to revamp technologies and engines can lead to cheaper, better, and less buggy content. Maybe even open up the possibilities of making content previously though too expensive to implement vs the benefits.

We want the game to grow, and not just in the amount of content. But in the types of content being delivered, and the quality of each release. If the current way of doing things is holding this growth back, then by all means, any chance to change things, small to big, should be considered, irrespective of how it might affect short term delivery of things. With some people saying UE5 tools could be a real boon to the development process it makes me wonder...

It would no doubt be a daunting, resource intensive task, but... That is what I would value the most of a "remaster", not spruced up existing content, but a foundation for improved content delivery into the future.

Ah thanks, I must have missed that. That makes much more sense.

I guess there isn't really anything of interest left intact then.

  11. the "Supply Depot"

It turns out it is some sort of research center, but what where they doing?

And this was captured by the Dominion, so was this being done by the United Legions prior?

At a cursory glance, what didn't get destroyed by the bomb, some telescope type thing, some kind of incendiary device or oven?, some herbs, oh, and a whole bunch of Kralkatorrick (purple) style brand crystals.

So is this Legion or Dominion stuff? Smodur was being very vague about describing the base, and conveniently tries to incinerate it all. Was his intent more on destroying research? Although the story moments focused more on the casualties, could the charr be hiding something from the rest of the world?

The brand crystals wasn't simply window dressing or some leftover stuff from Kralkatorrik visiting the area ages ago? It never did go to Drizzlewood Coast did it? Also, some of the Crystals seems to have been strewn about from a barrel, or bucket, that fell over when the base blew up. So it was definitely a part of what they were researching.

Where they trying to build Dragonblood weapons and what for? I don't think there is enough info in game about what this could possibly be for. But I have a feeling it maybe be something relatively important that will come back. Any kind of dragon research, tends to be kinda important, and the presence of these crystals is actually quite abnormal from what we know.

Any other insight, or just speculation about this?

    >

    > We could also kill Jormag (Aurene handles the energy part) and then the "mother" and other forces at play they have hinted at descend on Tyria whatever those things are.

As far as we know, Aurene can't do the work of multiple dragons. No one has claimed such. She is a suitable (and stable) replacement for Kralkatorric, but that is as far as we can rely on her.

  13. You are NOT a commander of the fighting force that is why you are not in control. This episode makes that explicit. You are respected, but you are not in charge. And this episode is exactly set up in that manner. They are not your fighting force. You are there at the will of the imperators, and they are using you like a tool. But you take that, because you need to be as close to Jormag as possible, and you need to make sure Jormag doesn't succeed. Your cabin will be flattened by an iceberg, so now you have no choice but to follow fights with Jormag. Bangar probably wants to flatten your cute asura's grave too (along with the rest of Maguuma), so that certainly isn't where you are going is it?

Perhaps it is time to level with Logan, and tell him, that the charr mess is not your cup of tea, and the Pact should prepare for a **real** assault on the dragon.

  14. Ryland recites a vigil mantra in his story in Visions of the Past, so there is a little bit of info on him...

It is still hard to imagine him as a double agent, however, a lot of irrational things are happening around the commander.

Rytlock brings the commander to help, but The pact/Aurene's army is not asked for.

Logan, the current pact commander, arrive with some Seraph, but doesn't seem to be on the Pact's behalf, he is with Kasmeer, and cites treaties with the queen for support.

The commander is asked for options but ultimately sidelined on decisions anyways.

I think nobody is being honest with the commander.

If Ryland is being ordered to stay close to Bangar, and that, potentially, Drizzlewood Coast is not even an honest battle despite the casualties.

Then Bangar must be far more dangerous than known, and he might have succeeded in actually controlling Jormag.

The frost legion might not be what we think they are. They may be legitimately **not** Jormag's minions. And while Jormag and dragon's aren't exactly friendly, it might be even worse for the dragons power to be controlled by the charr wanting to wipe out all the other races.

I think the imperators, and possibly the human queen knows how Bangar can do it, and they are buying time to figure out how to stop it, or hope to get someone else to take control of Jormag.

Rytlock pulls Aurene's champion into the battle, but everyone else is trying to keep them away from this knowledge. A battle between two dragons is probably as advisable as between two gods. Besides, Jormag can't be killed.

The pact commander can kill dragons, but, how do you free one?

But, I'm not sure anyone has ever actually touched it.

  16. The speculation on replacement, and the lack of any for Jormag, has me thinking about a few things fro Path of Fire that we really don't seem to have a conclusion. Vlast, seems to be much more knowledgeable of Glint's legacy, and he, on his demise, has left some interesting words that have yet to seem to have passed.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Sacrifice

    >Vlast: It was created so mortals could do the work of dragons, of our line.

    >Vlast: To combat cataclysmic power and prevent the destruction of all life.

Glint's legacy has certainly not been fully realized, if the intent is for mortals to wield the power of dragons themselves. Even Aurene's own ascension does not fulfill this notion of mortals balancing magic. Aurene isn't on of the mortals, even if she is sympathetic with them, she doesn't currently have mortals doing her work. Instead she is taking the burden of dealing with whatever havoc is going, and restoring the mists, on herself. She asks the commander to keep watch on Bangar, and the charr situation, but that isn't related to draconic powers/responsibilities.

    >Vlast: I feel trapped in this role...in this "legacy." I yearn for freedom, but I cannot turn away from these responsibilities.

Vlast seems to have had trouble working with Glint's legacy. And very specifically calls out how it works against his own freedom. Vlast's and now Aurene's role in shaping Glint's legacy with respect to having mortals do the work of dragons is unclear. But I have to wonder if Vlast's mention of freedom is simply referring to being beholden to responsibility, or is it a more literal sense of being enslaved as a result of allowing Glint's legacy to come to be. If the dragons acquiesce in relinquishing their power to mortals, so that the mortals can do this work, it would certainly be some form of servitude if not slavery.

Details about these parts of Gling't Legacy seem to not exist, but I have to wonder if Aurene, or Caithe, has learned about them. Are they holding back information from the commander (or Anet holding things far from the players, of course)? Perhaps the dragons can be controlled. And controlling them preempts the need to kill them.

One thing is clear with the first line quoted here from Vlast. Mortals can, and if the plan comes to pass, will wield the power of the dragons. To do the work of the dragons, mortals would clearly need some sort of power equal to the dragons. That leaves Bangar, and Glint's Legacy in an interesting situation. Glint's legacy instructs that mortals will have control over the powers of dragons, and Bangar wants to find a way to take control over Jormag's power. If Bangar succeeds, he will fulfill that step of Glint's legacy. Of course, the next step is for mortals to use that power to prevent cataclysm and protect life. Bangar, wants to use the dragons power to wage war, clearly antithetical to Glint's wishes.

Aurene seems cautious about Bangar and what he can achieve. She knows full well that the commander will kill him, but is cautious about when and how that will happen. Perhaps she is following a possible future of taking Jormags power and considering how it works in Glint's legacy. Looking at exactly when his chain of events should be cut to bring everything in line with her vision. Vision's of the past also shows us a few things about Ryland too. He seems to be scheming something potentially to usurp Bangar, and is more sympathetic to the Vigial/Pact than is letting anyone else know. I have to wonder, if Ryland gains control of Jormag, would he use the power to support Glint's legacy? Is that why he is following Bangar?

I think Jormag may very well become enslaved, and power used on behalf of someone or another. And, if Jormag can be enslaved, and the methods to do it become know, then the remaining two dragons, and the balance of magic, have suddenly become extremely vulnerable.

And what of Aurene, will she eventually loan her power to the commander, or the pact to fulfill Glint's legacy?

    >Vlast: Some advice: if you grow weary of your caretakers, offer a hiss or a swat of your tail and watch them scatter.

    >Vlast: Do not let them—or yourself—forget what you are.

Glint's vision give far too much faith in the hands of mortals. If mortals are given the ability to do the work, of dragons. They would immediately fail, and use it to destroy the world instead...

In the Path of Fire campaign.

I still don't really understand why Canach gave Rytlock the nickname "Cuddles"... but it was thrown out there soon after the commander resurrected with Rytlock standing next to them...

  18. I will hazard a guess that Rytlock will get maimed and Sohothin gets lost/destroyed . He will retire from fighting with the commander, and have to deal with being a charr who can not fight. Charr are known to stay in fighting shape till they die in battle, but Rytlock will choose a different path, and if 'Requiem' is of any hint, he will abandon the drive for power and strength.

Other than thatn, (and Bangar), I don't think anything else will happen to the characters.

Shame that the tech is probably why so much work needs to be done to support this game.

  20. The game doesn't have, eherm, the right boo... body fitting technology. Considering that there are no body sliders, your character creation is based on a limited set of body types, and even then, some body types are broken for some armor pieces... This game just doesn't seem like it could do this very well. It would end up being very broken if they tried to do this.
