  1. It seems that the oath is only an oath of secrecy, and the secrecy is only covering certain top secret subjects.

The loyalty stuff is mostly a part of becoming a member, which is implied and demanded before taking the oath.

    The dialog:

"You will be an agent at large. You will have special freedoms, so long as you're not working against Kryta".

Seems to be more about receiving status as a member of the organization rather than being a part of the oath. There seems to be poor editing here, because there is an awkward transition about what the commander has to do for the oath, to what the commander has to do for the organization.

The oath itself only has this one promise. "The secrets of the Shining Blade are mine to safeguard beyond this circle".

There is no loyalty aspect to the oath itself. It simply protects against double agents and spies.

And there is perhaps an admittance that it isn't an absolute commitment anyways.

"Whenever a class of recruits graduates. The oath has been part of our traditions since...I guess since we became a kingdom again. Knowing you'll die if you tell... It encourages loyalty."

Notes that is is an encouragement of loyalty, but not a guarantee.

At the end of the day, the only secret the Commander knows is information about Lazarus and, Lazarus subsequently is dead, so the secret would seem to no longer be that important. The commander and Kerida probably can't go around telling people Lazarus is gone for good, and they killed him. But I don't think that is of any particular concern to most.

  2. My biggest annoyance is that the boost is clunky. It locks your maneuverability without an ability to cancel it. The work around is to move in the backwards direction while boosting to kind of soft counteract it's full effect. If we could get the ability to cancel a boost, doing 1/2 or 3/4 boosts, then drifting in a track like this would be so much better. It would ease up on the timing of boosts. Right now, boosting can only be safely done in specific points before long stretches with a very small window because you quickly get too close to the next turn to allow for a full boost duration, and even then some amount of reverse direction is needed to counteract your speeds after boosting towards tight turns. The beetle's boost just pushes your speed overboard for such a tight track. Add boost canceling to the beetle, and it will be much more fun to race around with.

    > The longer they wait to fix it the more unfair a fix would be. Ppl speculating on sigils of nullification atm are doing so with the understanding that there is a risk anet may decide to fix the problem. If they leave it alone for a couple of months then they've given tacit approval to the market and to yank the rug out from under the ppl invested at that point would be just as harmful as the initial error . . .

I think, Anet should avoid doing anything that quickly and massively shifts the market in any way. Maybe they want to up the price of the sigil, but it really isn't good to make it happen in a few days. But it happened. So do they restore the original balance by making the value take a huge shift again? I dunno. They don't seem to have a problem with introducing new sources of previously limited items which have cratered their value instantly. Probably exposing the fact that they item's value was almost completely speculative.

Also being in a 'collection' seems to cause items to have higher demand, clearing out the achievement panel can be satisfying. The collection also serves as a content guide so that more people are aware of it and are less likely to disregard it. If every new 'craftable' set it going to have a collection then Anet should be more careful about availability of collection requirements.

  4. Defiance in this game is complicated. If you simply tell people to bring CC, it is possible they will all bring soft CC which will not help map meta events, because of the way soft CC is designed and the defiance bar scaling. Defiance bar damage is also not noted in game, so there is no way to know if people are simply bringing useless CC abilities. Even if they are tutorials, they would be scaled for a single player, and would be possible to complete with soft CC. Unless changes are made to the defiance system, these tutorials would likely fail to encourage hard CC which is needed for larger group content.

There isn't really any problem maintaining 100% uptime of most stacks by time conditions, which includes all soft CC effects, in open world meta content. It is clear that people do bring CC. Perhaps it is easy to have soft CC because it appears across many abilities and builds. In un-scaled content this soft CC is probably enough to get through most people's encounters of brake bars.

The problem with soft CC is they stack by time, and, especially for time limited bars, they are pointless when you stack 100 seconds of cc for a bar open for only 10 seconds. The stack by time soft control effects made sense, pre defiance, when they could only have one intensity. But now they would make more sense and there would better match defiance bar scaling if they stacked by intensity of defiance damage. But, with how it works, we are at a point where, there is simply good cc, and bad cc for defiance bars of meta bosses.

    Also.

There is no in game resource to learn about effective defiance breaking. And I think a tutorial will not be effective considering, this is what has to be explained.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Defiance_bar

Of course sections 3 and maybe 4, 5, and 6 of that article should at least be conveyed using tool-tips, but they aren't.

Pre-cast is a major pain in the butt when dealing with time limited break bars, and takes up valuable time not apply the whole force of a classes possible CC.

  5. If we gonna theorize...

It is determined that the elder dragons are the arbiters of magic against the greed of individual mortals. But the old dragons, rejecting the value of individuals outright, had become increasingly destructive and detrimental in their methodology, the instances of dragon rises. Aurene, being raised to love and protect the populations of Tyria, must face the responsibility of controlling and culling bad actors. This is what I predict from the foreshadowing of late.

So what could happen from this, what are Aurene's multiple visions of the future?

Aurene decides to be compassionate and loving, leading to the end of the destruction of the dragon rise, giving magic freely to the inhabitants. But with the end of the threat of dragons, Aurene will be unable to moderate greed and loathsome qualities of the living. She will be able to protect and mentor the few willing in the world, but mostly old rivalries and hatred will rise up, straining the alliances of necessity against the old dragons. The Pact will weaken forcing Logan to choose between running of failing organization or return home to protect his country. The Charr will return to their conquering ways forsaking the alliance with humans and even the alliance of the legions among themselves. The inquest will see a massive resurgence making the Asura more powerful, but also much more cruel.

Another option. Aurene rejects her upbringing, and although we destroy the old elder dragons, she ends up not much better. She betrays her champion. The world continues to face, and must contain the wrath of the dragon. Although no longer facing complete destruction from newer inexperienced elder dragons, they much remain vigilant to prevent mass tragedies.

Auren asks her champion, to root out and identify unstable and antagonizing forces. Aurene being a kittening dragon is able to stamp out problems, but not without massive collateral. While the people of the world can see hope through such destruction, the Champion becomes seen as the harbinger of the dragons wrath. They live up to all of Joko's wise words.

  6. They are classified as a container in the API, so one would presume they can be used to obtain said items directly without needing a dealer. As a container it would probably use the "Choose from:" interface, like an ascended container would (as opposed to something like the fused gauntlet ticket which is a gizmo that opens a dealer that trades the gizmo for an item). I'm sure people who have purchased and used these items can confirm this.

  7. I don't transmute, because I can't be bothered thinking about how many transmutation charges I have. And I don't care if my character is wearing the generic crafted exotic skins anyways. If I did transmute, I'd probably have enough to not care for a while, but I have pretty much decided not to use them. Outfits are convenient and don't use currency, so the current system pretty much influences me to use whatever cheap outfit I have on most of my characters. And the only weapons I have transmuted where from weapon skin items that I collected and need to dispose from my inventory, or those achievement ones that are easy to use because they are unlimited from the achievement panel.

I think the charges keep some people away from using the wardrobe or participating in fashion wars 2. No matter how small the barrier, the psychological effects of having this barrier can change people's behavior, and I don't think the behaviors that transmutation charges influence are positive for the game as a whole. Would I use skins more if there where no transmutation currency costs? I dunno, maybe I don't care all that much, but I would probably apply skins once in a while rather than never.

    > > at the end of the day, **Vote with your Wallet**> _if you do appreciate the work anet devs put into the game, show a bit of appreciation and support by buying something small off gem store with real money_Lost revenue from gold to gems is reflected in the gem exchange rates (when gems not previously owned by another player are given the rate goes up). Unless Anet supplies the exchange with free gems to lower the rate, it doesn't look like Anet loose any revenue from the exchange anymore as the exchange rate seems to be quite stable.

  9. Stick on an outfit, don't worry about transmute.

Before the wardrobe transmuting required two piece of equipment and a special transmutation item, and probably discouraged most from using them, and if you wanted to transmute level 80 gear it required a special more expensive transmutation items. And then you would have to select stats, skin, and sigil from the two base equipment  It was just outright hostile.

Well if they actually see value in transmutation charges, can I at least convert bound skins to charges? I might have a hoarding problem, precious/useless transmutation charges. can't waste them :confounded:

  10. I don't think branching dialog address the issue of having a relateable or personal main character for the player. Giving the player character a strong voice, constrains the character to one voice. Giving the character three possible choices of defining interactions, constrains the character to three different possible voices. If I remember some biowares games I have played before, the choices, are really, is my character compassionate or tough. and the choices you make really fall along those lines and that is about it. You aren't creating a custom character, just choosing between two. You could maybe add more facets to the allowed choices that give characters personality, but each additional personality trait that you add as possibly applying to the character would somewhat double the possible permutations a player could choose, and to satisfy every permutation in writing would required exponential quantities of work.

Really, what you mean by branching paths in the end, is to create x number of different possible player character archetypes for the player to possibly end up with. Especially, if you insist on making every choice reinforcing into future choices, where you character pretty much, eventually is locked into one of the final possible types. And, that is certainly better than having one character. but it isn't going to let you build the character you want, because the character you want, won't fit into the choices they give you. Well some people may be lucky enough to get a close approximation.

There is certainly an elegance, (elegantly cheap too) for the player character to just be a smooth clean slab. People who don't care awfully too much, can appreciates how streamlined it is. People who do care, well, then they can draw on it. People seems to be fascinated enough in wanting to write their own narratives, so why not do that. We don't need dialog options to write them, especially if the ultimate solution is to have so many options that we could have written down how our character felt before we could find it scrolling through the options or figuring out how the dialog tree is structured. That doesn't mean the narrative can't give you crayons to work with. Not full branches of dialog, or pick one of some choices. Just things that are discretely laid out there, not necessarily a part of the player character, but it could be... ehhh...

I dunno, I'm no studied designer, I just like videogames, and as much as I want to learn things, It may not be my place to, directly ask someone, why not this or why not that.

The original key is never re-transmitted, making it unlikely to be stolen (unless someone steals your authenticator's locally stored data).

    > I hope you can understand that I do not dig trough all of that (and probably you neither did or would do).

    > But seeing Google in it. Ye.. for free I guess, too? When I see how often I got to "ReCaptcha" and checked the data protection just to be redirected to Google - for a login on League of Legends! - then it gives you the shivers. Google does nothing for free. And every "man in the middle" is a potential security leak.

Sorry, but just to be clear, and to try and dismiss miss-information,

This two-factor authentication protocol is not an online or internet based service. Google is just one organization that promote, use, and have implemented one of released client applications that use this protocol. It also seems to be the most well known implementation of the protocol, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised if people confuse it for a google product. If you look at the authors of the RPF you can see it has be developed by companies like Verisign, who are one of the top authorities in communications security. (at least I hope they are because I am constantly swiping my credit card on their equipment :grimace: )

You can find a list of alternate implementing applications on it's wiki page including non google and open source applications.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_One-time_Password_algorithm#Client_implementations

The only parties involved when using this protocol are, the target service, you (who must keep the secret key safe), and the application vendor who (hopefully) has implemented the protocol correctly and securely.

I looked at the source of an authenticator app I have used in the past, and it does in fact use a web request to the google homepage because the google web responses contain the current date and time (it is very important to have accurate time for this protocol) so I can't guarantee other implementations don't do something similar. I don't know if you have a problem with asking google for the time.

I linked the RFC because I want you to know that this isn't some kind of proprietary software that people don't know, whether or not it is data mining your data. No I don't expect you to learn about the standard and understand it, but I have worked with it before and I want to help you understand what it is. As an open standard, people are out there who can analyze it and raise flags if the standard is insecure, exploitative, or in general bad. Technology will continue to be a big aspect of our lives and if we are going to be afraid of it, as you are with anything associated with Google, how are we supposed to function? The answer is to understand what your software is doing, or to at least, understand where it is coming from, who is allowed to audit it and what it can and can't do. And, this two-factor authentication protocol, being an open standard with open source implementations is a example of software that you should not be afraid of.

This software is more clear an open about what it is doing that most anything else in the software world. So it kinda annoys me that you imply that you can't know if there is any shady google shenanigans behind it. I know you don't want to sift through technical documents and code, but you should at least understand, when something is this open, this transparent about what it is doing, you should not go around and say it is trying to take your data out of ignorance.

B.T.W this forum uses google analytics, which by design, and its purpose, it to take and analyze the data of you browsing this forum, but i am sure you have blocked you computer from talking to www,google-analytics,com.

You can determine how secure it is for yourself. it is an open standard.

    https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6238

Basically it requires, the two parties sharing a secret key once, then, without any other communications, the two parties can calculate the same password based on the current time. For authentication a new password will be sent every time, based on the current time, so that even if it is stolen it is unusable soon after. >

    > >! **Cleopatra Aegyptus**: JUST BLOW THE kitten GATE, CANACH!

Canach was just showing his tactical prowess by ensuring the current situation is under control before attempting to introduce new elements into the situation by expanding the potential conflict area. My commander's cheesy reaper build tends to want to leash everything in the area, and face tank stuff while doing AOE damage. She doesn't really understand the Idea of taking things on on at a time. Good thing Canach is there, he ensured all possible attention could have been paid attention to what was on the other side of the door, and that turned out to be quite important.

  14. Oh, are you asking about when you actually complete the stated mission objective? She goes into some sort of rage and the missing succeeds. This was originally the only way for the mission to end, but I think they had to 'fix' it to prevent farming the unlimited spawns.

) shows how it's done, though I have to admit that guy does it a lot more impressively than I ever could, in one smooth motion. I take my time with it.

Action camera allows forward (full speed) running towards the camera (or any direction you pres the movement keys in, if you move the camera 90 degrees from your movement direction, you can pretend it is a side scrolling game.) as long at your are not in an attack animation, so that may make it easier than rotating the camera a bunch.

  16. I experience random FPS drops from time to time too.

Most of the time the fix is to either wait it out (it eventually ends but you have to be patient), or restart the game.

Last time I got it, I was playing SAB (in the shortcut worm). I checked and normally, in this area, my computer can do 200+ FPS.

When the game starts lagging, the game reports 7 fps.

    Symptoms I have noticed.

Game is not using the CPU only achieving a few percent (2-5) of usage. This also means the GPU is underutilized (normal for GW2 anyways, since it is CPU limited. Memory usage seems normal.

I use Nvidia's FPS counter overlay, it disappears when the symptoms first appear, but I have notice that overlay randomly disappear with or without FPS drops. It does not come back even when the game recovers from low frame rate.

    Who?

  19. If the game is going to have short attack windows, and have a very fast action response time for attacks, then there really shouldn't be pre-cast times on the corresponding abilities. I don't know exactly how many cc abilities have pre-cast, but it does seem it is quite pervasive. I know that things like shouts and mantras don't tend to have them, but not every class has CC shouts or mantras. Telegraph windows for enemy attacks, are quite short, but the current dodge is instant, making it feel good and responsive to pull off a dodge during a heavy attack. Having an CC attack window that closes before your pre-cast finishes just makes things feel sluggish, and to some unfair. This is just a poor design and tuning for that mechanic. Also because of how varied CCs are, It seems like it is quite difficult to tune break bars properly for all classes. Unfortunately this means that the mechanic needs quite a bit of leeway to make it work well and feel good for players. The tight window that it used to have, didn't do that. And as you can see, in this very thread, this makes a lot of people simply ignore and work around the mechanic. With a more generous approach, making the mechanic more viable, will hopefully let more people approach it and think to use CC instead of going, hell no that is too short, because I can't even cast my CC in the time that it up, not to mention having the time for the couple of ticks any soft CCs need to deplete the bar.
