I dunno. I don't believe they are following episodic pacing at all anymore, therefore Ep. 5 as the presumably penultimate chapter in a normal storytelling flow can be the climax, with Ep. 6 as the less intense resolution. People seem to expect Ep. 6 to one up Ep. 5, but I doubt it. Ep. 6 could be of a different pace, and hopefully bring resolution to some of the longstanding overly wrought arcs of the game.

    >! If the "Scion and Champon" thing is put to rest, then there should be some sort of send off too.

Regardless of the direction it goes, this next Episode certainly has a lot of things it would have to do well to cap off the season, and potentially different parts of the lore.

    > We also have the theory that Aurene mind-jacked Kralk, which could play into the forgotten cleansing ritual I suppose, but would honestly be a pretty poor direction in and of itself. Even if she did mind-jack him, she... what... controls him from the mists? She straight up planted her mind into Kralk and now she's just a corpse on Tyria and has no spirit in the mists? Kralk would still have his mind in there.

What if Aurene imparted only a part of herself into Kralk without going into full mind swapping, and mellowed out Kralk's personality? Remember what Caithe said Aurene's being. Intense love and trust, overwhelming hope. Aurene's soul/mind/power is certainly weaker thank Kralk's that is true. But her memories and experiences, if they are as as Caithe describes, could it be weaponized in a mind melding situation? We don't have to presume that Aurene could or would have to completely override Kralkatoric's original self to succeed. Personality wise Kralk starts at 0, he is irredeemable. Add +1 love, trust and hope to his personality, and that makes him infinitely, even if marginally better. It creates a basis to try to calm the dragon down. Perhaps such a change could be the key to making a purifying ritual work.

  3. Aurene looked back and the Commander nodded (by the motion of the screen). Not sure if Aurene was actually asking us a question, nor do I think we knew the full extend of what she was asking about... but that is what the scene showed. Most simply, Aurene was simply hesitating, and waiting for encouragement, but that would be odd considering Aurene seems to have the most knowledge about what had to happen. The whole time the Commander is swinging blind in this episode (and most of the GW2 story), but she seemingly approved the plan, while also having more understanding of the situation, why would she looked towards the Naive commander for reassurance?

Also for the final moment, I don't know how many people caught on to it, but after repeatedly re watching it, I have determined that Kralkatorric showed little interest in Aurene for that final attack. In fact, Kralkatorric was directly targeting the Commander until Aurene canceled his beam. Only then did Kralk turn the bean towards Aurene, increase it's power and overcame Aurene's counter attack. Kralk barely paid attention to where Aurene flew off to, she could have easily escaped that attack.

That means Aurene had a choice not to die there. Wouldn't be good for the game if the player character was blasted away... so the narrative didn't have a choice... but it conveys that Aurene chose to protect the Commander and face her certain death. Realizing that, makes her death more sad? But, since she chose it, maybe we can be reassured that it is according to plan... perhaps at according to prophecy?

  4. Almorra books it into the back corner/hallway, where you enter and just kinda kneels there, no brand crystals reaches that area (although the player character will take damage if standing there during the blast) and she is not removed from the area afterwards, but is sealed into corner... But that is just how the level assets where sorted (they made it damn hard to peak in but little camera clipping reveals her character model is still there, still kneeling). Not sure what is actually supposed to happen to her, but she is clearly at least partially moved away from the destruction.

She could have just as easily run under Brham's bubble, but instead she runs into the seemingly safe corner. I guess she has no voice lines this episode and it might be awkward for her to just stand around after the blast.

    > There is a limit of events we would want on screen at one time. I think after 4, the UI gets all wonky. This would be for players who have dailies up, and tracking achievements, ect.

Sometimes, on any map, I can get frustrated by not being able to find events, getting to events at a point in time past being able to succeed (? timers...), and (if using the content guide) getting to events just after they complete (or watching the content guide bounce around unpredictably).

Is there any ideas, beyond the content guide, and radius visibility changes, to make events more coherent in following them? Such as using more event chains or strategically scheduling them so that players, can move from one to another more seamlessly?

Right now scouts exist to point out hearts. But, when we first got mounts, I had the thought, wouldn't it be great if scouts mounted up and chased down events, with some sort of icon on the map, acting as players sometimes do with commander tags.

Not sure what is feasible, but I have always felt that map events are somewhat unpredictable and can be hard to find.

  6. It is just theory I guess. The human gods seem adepts at controlling and sharing magic. Something that a benevolent dragon is said could do too. Balancing and sharing magic seems to be a shared ability between the two. I guess we don't know much about their origins, so it is just very speculative. Good to be reminded that there is no hard evidence.

I think the human gods leaving Tyria would make a lot more sense if there are parallels, because it would mean the the human gods are impostors tipping the balance of magic of Tyria in inappropriate ways. There just wouldn't be enough room for 12 of their kind of beings in a single world, especially after the dragons awake. If Balthazar remains a thing we, hopefully we can learn more. Their origins is simply too mysterious for now.

  7. Just for clarification, I think there are two different uses for the world 'ascension' in GW lore. One is the ascension as a type of purification to become closer to the gods, but also there is 'The Ascension of Kormir'. Basically, Ascension in that case meant Kormir Ascending to godhood to replace a defeated god. Is replacing an elder dragon the same thing? Aurene is meant to replace Kralkatorric, and I have a feeling the way to do it is similar to Kormir with Abaddon.

So, following this train of thought...

I am aware that 'The Ascension of Kormir' required the blessing of other gods, to happen. First of all, is there anything else Kormir received to finally be able to take control of Abaddon's power? I couldn't find much more info on it, and I haven't played GW1.

Anyways, If we continue following the parallels between the ascension of Kormir and what Aurene set out to do, would Aurene need to receive the blessing from other elder dragons to even be eligible for replacing Kralkatorric? This probably sinks the theory that Kormir and Aurene are following the same path. I just can't shake the idea that the six dragons have the same relationship to Tyria, as the six gods had to their dead world. That because they are analogous, that Aurene will need similar things as Kormir, things appear to not have been received.

This makes me have ideas that are too way out there to be true. But, at least for me it is a fun thought.

  8. I think Arena Net prefers direct sales, especially for digital sales. Although they have also worked with other internet game retailers to deliver key only versions of their boxed product. Steam isn't a very good storefront for visibility, TBH, and GW2 has it's own delivery platform. Also, while I doubt they have a problem with how Steam would handle sales of the boxed products, as they do work with retailers which would have a similar retail price margin, they might have problems about how they can handle gem sales between direct sales VS giving the steam store a gem buying function. Would they be required to put a gem buying option on steam, and what would the profit share be in that case?

I think GW2 does have some visibility problems, but the contracts with Steam probably wouldn't be clear cut ans straight forwards. Direct Sales allows Arena Net to keep most of the sales price. It is up to ANet, as they handle their own publishing. They probably considered it, but have determined it is not something that would improve their profits.

    > * There's no epilogue at all once you come out of the final instance. Nothing changed. Where's the big thing which just happened?

I think Living Story episodes are more like chapters than episodes. What I mean is, it will probably be more cohesive to play them in a continuous form along with the expansion content. Season 2, and 3 also have the problem of kinda simply being rather long prologues to the expansion packs. PoF didn't really end neatly, so season 4 seems to be the extension to it, instead of being used to lead up to future content. If the next episode ties everything up for the crystal dragon, as I think many people expect, then season 4 will finally be a season where we end major plot lines instead of simply running into the next paid content. It would be nice to have a Season end properly (like Season 1 :grimace:). Basically, because these are more like chapters in a book, rather than a narrative episode, they don't alone, make a well rounded narrative or story. I'd have to guess this is basically the penultimate chapter in a story, the climax, so... the epilogue, and resolution, will be the next episode... unfortunately, around 3 months away :disappointed: .

  10. Interseting...

As for Kralk, and my theory of what is to come, It would certainly be easier to negotiate, if they happen to absorb some of the knowledge and desire to communicate, even if unwillingly.

With what happened and all, I think the scion and champion gave him a lot of new things to chew on.

If Kralk ended that fight with something more inside of him, then, maybe he can learn to overcome his fear of his vision, maybe he can learn the language of mere mortals, maybe he can learn about having bonds with others... maybe, then, he will eventually come to talk to the commander because he will want to try the things he learned about.

  11. In the words of Kormir, "No. Yes... And much more".

We never understood how reforging a dragon would look. Nor did we actually have a mold large enough to do so. But that was our plan right? We would melt the dragon, which the tuning crystals do, and we hit him with them a bunch. Once molten.... I guess we figured something would happen, not sure exactly what, but Aurene seemed to agree with the plan.

One thing I remember from science, is if you put a crystal in a disorganized, molten or otherwise un-bound form of it's base materials, the unbound materials can grow off of the added crystals and re-from into the same pattern as the seed crystal. There is no mold large enough to hold the power of Kralkatoric, and I doubt that so much power could be forcefully shaped anyways. Lets say crystal science works in the case of a crystal god's mind, if whatever we mollified inside of Kralk's head where seeded with say another crystal to our liking, say Aurene's crystalline self, it could mean something fairly significant, even if Kralks body remains intact.

I felt like the 'cheeriness' of how everything was coming together was a feint. But this is probably the severity of this failure is a feint too.... Well i mean, I think a lot of people died, but reforging a dragon, ascension, is undoubtedly messy.... but what we did was mostly successful. We've tempered the steel, I believe Aurene has seeded the structure. But now what? Oh yeah, forging. etc. ect, we have to quench whatever we forged... You know, The Commander did that with the first set of spears by pulling a lever. The Commander did a very good job pulling that lever, perhaps it should be done again sometime, maybe in the next episode.

So who, uhm, has a huge quantity of magical oil? We are going to need a lot of it. I mean an ocean's worth of it... Now how do you get a confused elder dragon to take a bath?

  12. I think it may be due to a combination of being improperly tagged as in combat, + a client sync issue where you can cast a costume brawl skill while in combat.

Some costume brawl CCs seem to place the character into combat. I don't think this should happen as the costume brawl CCs already put cool downs on their costume brawl skills, the in combat status just locks out skill for even longer, leading to my second observation.

Normally if you try to use a costume brawl skill while in combat you get the message 'You cannot use that skill while in combat'. However if the skill activation occurs coincidentally with being placed into combat it seems to be able to still cast, while in combat.

When you cast a costume brawl skill while entering 'combat' you seem to drop out of costume brawl. (I testing using my primary weapon while in costume brawl and in combat and it doesn't force you out so I can't speculate on the specifics of that.)

  13. I dunno if that is lag or some kind of animation desync issue. Notice that you can pretty much see the other players movement (an follow him) in perfectly fine real time with no lag.

I saw this last year too, but haven't encountered it yet this year. I don't know if internet connection stability is related to if this happens and how bad it is.

The tell tale signs of this are animation frames for the clock tower parts breaking off being skipped. I am talking about the animations you have to wait for before proceeding like the one near the beginning, and the one after the drop. You can tell how bad the desync is by how many frames are skipped. The # of seconds skipped for those animations is pretty much the amount of desync, and how much you would have to pre-jump the final jump. For that video it seems like most of the animations are skipped. :astonished:

If you see the animation frames being skipped, try switching to a different instance. If the animation is always like that. sorry .
