why no sunsets/sunrises?

I mean we do have a day/night system, but it's a pretty weird one, since the night is just a bit darker than the day, and we don't have even a proper sunset/sunrises at all, like the sky turning yellow, orange, red, purple dark.

we just have blue sky, and then at night... it gets just darker.

only in some zones we get sunset, like in Ember bey, or some swamps where the sky turns orange-y.

just imagine how amazing the maps would look with a proper day and night system. queensdale at sunset, grothmar valley on early dawn with the sun rising between the trees.

always thought it was weird how we have half a day/night system I guess.

I agree - some older mmos like Lotro do it but use a more nuanced day/night system by utilising segments like dawn, dusk, gloaming, fore dawn etc to make the transition more natural

GW2 has very little transition and just the lighting or darkening of the sky which verdant brink shows most clearly. Might just be an engine or tech thing - the game can’t do weather very well either

Ember Bay shows how cool it would look though

It happens, at least in some maps, but like the day/night contrast it's not always that noticable unless you look out for it in the right place at just the right time.

This first screenshot I think is in thr Crystal Desert, the second I have marked as Ascalon but I'm not sure which map (it's from 2014) and the 3rd is from Labyrinthine Cliffs, and going by what my ele is wearing it must be the first year it was available.

that's just the regular day time sky graphics for those maps though. it doesn't turn like that only at afternoon. first pic is ember bay, one of the ones I mentioned. where it's constant sunset light. ascalon also has a day long sunset-y light and colors, and the last one i have no idea.

Settings like sight distance may be a factor. I remember older games with day/night cycles where the sun or moon would appear where you wouldn't normally see them due to terrain, buildings, etc. When you moved close enough, then those features would be rendered, and so block the moon that was appearing a moment before.

Honestly, I'm good with the way things are. I wouldn't want normal areas to be dark.
