Indeed. Check out the 'Knight of the Thorn' quest. It's not exactly free but It's relatively cheap and you don't need a crafter. Also, you can reset the stats for a bit of LWs3 currency AND, you can turn it into a staff or scepter later if you need/want to and still select new stats for those as well.

First one is pretty much free(vision crystal might cost something).

No Staff. Greatsword, sword, scepter, dagger, shield

You can also get one in the specialised collections from POF. I can't recall off the top of my head if there was a HoT specialization dagger but if you have a Ranger you can easily get one by completing the Ranger PoF specialized collection. Don't forget WvW and fractal vendors sell them as well. They just require a time investment and in game currency.

Keep in mind you need Hot story completed for the unlock.

You get two from PoF. Also two swords and two axes.

Fractal still requires a lv500 weaponsmith for the grandmaster marks.

WvW also requires grandmaster marks but you can get the three you need for a weapon through the skirmish chests after 10 weeks assuming you finish at least gold every week.

The collections are usually more expensive then crafting them. Though the POF ones a bit cheaper because named awakened weapons are pretty cheap compared to making a machined weapon for the HOT collections

Just to clarify one topic repeated earlier -

To be able to complete the POF specialization collections requires crafting a weapon of that type and therefore having a minimum of lvl400 in that craft(discipline).

as an example:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Silence_of_a_Thousand_Years_(achievement)

Mordant Slicer- Craft with recipes purchased in The Desolation or the Domain of Vabbi.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mordant_Slicer

Since the item is account bound, you cannot purchase from TP either.

Good luck.

Personally I found the Machined Weapons relatively cheap, it's the Mystic Weapons which are more expensive IMO. They all cost around 33g to craft and use 30 Mystic coins.

Also because all the istan farming has generated enough unid gear to drop the prices of the named sunspear weapons.

That does not require crafting. You can buy https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aloeth,_Revel_in_Ruin_of_Severance instead.

Thank you all for the clarifications. I was on my tablet and didn't have it in front of me when I replied. The PoF one you can get as a choice drop at some point in the story as well or from the TP as @"Khisanth.2948 said (I got the axe on my druid but that one is required from the Mirage collection.) In HoT I ended up using my Mystic coins the in the forge for my Staff bc I didn't have Artifice levelled yet.
