Australian Server?

Recommended Posts

Your account (and not an individual character) is tied to both a server and a region. The region (NA/EU) you can not change at all (at least I'm not aware of any way to do it). The region also determines what other players you play with in any content, while the server is only relevant for WvW (used to be open PvE as well, bu t that was changed years ago) - and even that will change at some point in the future.

If you are a returning player your account will already have an associated server.

You can change your server by:

1) Paying Gems (prize depends on the population of the new server)

2) Deleting all characters and then changing for free

3) Free accounts are granted one free server change after an upgrade to the full version (might have to ask CS about it though)

You can change your region - when you open the World Selection menu on the character select screen there's a drop-down box in the top right corner to display American servers, European ones or both. You just switch to the list you want and then pick a server from the list. I believe the gem costs are exactly the same as for moving to a new server in the same region but can't check right now.

Other than that what Shailyn said is correct. Your entire account is always on the same server, so if you want to move you will move all your characters together. But your server only matters for World vs. World. All the other maps are shared between servers so it's only your region which matters. There are no Australian (or even SEA) servers and I think most Australians play on NA, but I know there's a few on EU as well.

If you are planning to play WvW it would be worth asking in the WvW section for advice on which server to join or even finding an Australian WvW guild and joining their server. Because most players are in Europe and the Americas and there's quite a time difference between there and Australia I think Australian WvW can be quite specialised, focusing on taking advantage of the lower player numbers to make progress.

for WvW, servers will be a thing of past once alliances is implemented, there's just gonna be NA or EU region

with PvE, server is no longer in play since they implemented mega servers couple of years ago

Think Sea of Sorrow have the majority of the AU population, since it was one of the recommended servers during the initial launch

Deleting all characters to reset your server status is a myth and hasn't been working since 2015.

I thought it did still work but there was a problem where PoF beta characters (and possibly HoT beta characters before that) weren't actually deleted, just hidden, so when people who had been in the beta deleted all their characters the game thought they had 1 left and wouldn't let them transfer. But I also thought that had been fixed.

The [Wiki page](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World#Transferring "Wiki page") also says you need to log out to be offered the free transfer, so maybe someone missed that?

I'm not willing to delete all my characters just to test it, but if someone who has tried it after 2015 can confirm that would be helpful.

I think there's a mix of Australians playing on EU or NA servers, it just depends on your preference and what guild you want to join (if you want to join a guild). If you don't mind deleting your toons and have a guild in mind that you want to join, then you could do that and join your new guild's server/region.

Living proof right here. When I joined the game back in 2015 I realized I was on the wrong server. All my friends were over at EU and I was on NA, so I google about it. I deleted two of my characters who were around Level 20-40... which was a huge deal for a newbie such as myself. The offer never popped up, never. I relogged several times and the game never gave me the option. I had to contact Support to sort this out.
