The Tyrian Service Medal - Anet, you need to fix this in Orr

Recommended Posts

Waited over an hour for the 2 min long Grenth defense event to spawn. 2 min is all it lasts since he dies fast. Got the medal. Then went to Balthazar event. It was active. participated in the full event before the risen king appears, killed the Risen King dude, and NOTHING. ANeT, you've turned a game into unappealing achievements. Please fix this and stop creating content that relies on events and timers for achievements.

We told you numerous times how boring and frustrating this kitten is, why you still shove it down our throats...

because the devs do not play the game?

Same reason someone would place the kournan cache in the home instance right next to two NPCs. Anyone who has played the game would have ran into an analogous situation demonstrating why that shouldn't be done. For example trying to ress someone but end up picking up a banner instead.

There is no Risen King in the Balthazar chain. It sounds like you were maybe doing some other event, unless you meant Risen Priest.

It's a coin flip, some are getting on successful defences, some not... similarly some are failing and getting rewarded some not.. its just the Orrbug syndrome like before.. give it a week and it might be sorted, if not just do a rain dance first thing in the morning and scream a 100 Hail Mary's before bed then maybe the gods will look more favourably on you next time... maybe.

It isn't. It seems way more mysterious than that. It can award the achi to someone afking away from mobs in a "safe spot" up the temple, while people pounding on the priestess and killing risen by the truckload get nothing.

Seriously? Why should _anyone_ either know about or care about bugs that _don't_ affect them? Wow indeed.

Bugs are bugs, if you didn't care yesterday, no matter what happen, you shouldn't care tomorrow, else you're just being hypocritical.

No, that's not what hypocrisy means.

People didn't know or care about the bugs yesterday because they had no reason to do the events.

When they added a reason for people to do the event they became aware of the bugs and then the bugs became an issue for people.

well, if they werent doing the temple events they /wouldnt/ know about the bugs, and theres *NOTHING* wrong with bringing more light to issues in this game.

It was the last steps of the retake events in the temple. I know where Balthazar's temple is. I can't remember the boss name. Like I said, I got full credit for the last two parts but no medal. Someone in my guild said it was the escort step before the final two steps that gives you the medal. And defending does as well(even a failed defense).

Today I defended the temple and got the medal even though we failed to defend.

It's actually the temple capture (capture circle) step that awards it (you get it the moment that step completes), although some people say you do need to participate in the escort event first. Killing the priest during capture affects nothing - it happens _after_ the achi gets (or doesn't get) awarded.

Of course, that step (as anything in the whole collection) is wildly inconsistent. Some people get it, some do not. For now, there seem to be two points one should follow (no guarantees they will work, but not doing them might cause you to not get the achi). First, once it appears, do not step out of the circle for even a moment. Second, try to tag as many attacking mobs as possible.

Yeah, i know that it might be hard to accomplish both at the same time. My advice is to use a class with relatively good range dps option (ele, for example, should be okay. For me longbow ranger turned out to be enough, even though it's not as good at tagging groups of mobs).

There is one event that is _sometimes_ bugged (Melandru), because the game currently has two events with the same name: one was fixed along with the other temples events, and one ... well, it shouldn't be in the game.

The reason that people don't get credit sometimes is almost always due to doing too little damage on a specific NPC. For the temples, it's always the undead priest (i.e. the boss). It is _easy_ to do too little damage under specific circumstances, that are common for some players and ridiculously rare for others, which is why people see such different results, even at the same event.

There are multiple reasons that _some_ people don't meet the minimum damage threshold: they have a support build; they target the wrong NPC; they don't realize that it's damaging the NPC that matters; the target dies very quickly at popular events (especially these days, due to how easy it is to stun & damage with certain builds).

It is, fortunately, easy enough to avoid the issue:

* Bring a DPS build. _and/or_

* Join a party (the other members' damage counts towards the threshold) (unfortunately, I know of no reliably tests that have been done to determine if being in a squad works; in contrast, being in a party has been confirmed) _and/or_

* Be among the first to tap the boss. _and/or_

* Focus on the relevant boss, ignoring everything else as much as possible.

The techniques above are worth learning, because this also matters for other collections, including e.g. killing the Kessex Spider Queen (3rd beetle collection), getting credit for destroying plague experiments in Kourna (same collection), and gaining access to the loot room after the Kourna meta.

I make an example:

There are 3 people in a country who can't eat (=people who were playing in Orr before patch), they ask for help (=opening tickets/forum threads/bug reporting) but noone care since it doesn't bother the big majority, later the majority can't eat anymore too and they ask with their big numbers for help. HELL NO, it doesn't work this way, you should have cared before about those few 3 people, now you will die with them!

Wow, I never realised it was so grave, if only we'd known.

Your example is basically wrong though, the more people that a problem is affecting in this game the better the chance that they'll fix the problem. So despite the fact that these defects have existed before the current content is now far more likely that they will fix them than before, because now they are blocking new content for more people.

Of course, a lot of the problems I'm reading about will resolve themselves in time.

Certainly no one is going to starve to death here.

You don't get to decide what people should care about. And anyway, how could people care before the patch about a bug that didn't exists in orr before the patch?

Yep, I was in the capture circle portion. There were those who got the reward and those who didn't. I wasn't the only one that night. But hey, at least I got credit for doing the event, right? :(

Not hard, though at Dwayna if you want to tag the Priestess your likely going to have to because she is normally melted long before she gets anywhere close to circle..

Fact is there are simply no guarantees its working any particular way, its just down to luck that your on a map with an event that's going to award you the tyrian medal part or not

Dwayna doesn't have capture circle at no stage of either capture or defense events.

Yes, precisely. We might know which event should award the collection part, but whether it will actually work (and what you have to do during that event) is for the most part random and unclear.
