New guild missions & currency

Recommended Posts

Hi.. I'm in one of the guild that still host guild mission weekly. A bit of my guild background - we are EU based..A guild with mostly casual players from all ages all background, hardcore to so casual that player happy just stand at same location 111 till the dam thing die . We used to have 60ppl turning up for weekly guild missions to only 5 last week.. we still run them and never missed a week.

I think guild currency needs a polish and update. Just like raid currency. Update of guild merchant to include new items to trade with new currency and transfer of old currency to new (eg 10 to 1). This will encourage ppl to come and do guild mission again for good reason. Guild mission is good way to promote close social family feel activity .. it's always healthy ..Better than participate in open world events.. every week when we gather for GM.. the guild chat literally light up. Guild has been slow recently.. although less happening we will never abandon the guild because it's an old guild with plenty of nice fond memories. we need good missions and updates to help. it's like when you enter a pub.. we look for casual chats relaxing environment and fun at the same time :p where's my drink??? ?? Guild missions that's can cater for all kinds of players, not too hard and guildies can help each other to get things done for equal reward..in other words make it so we can carry guildies easily.. but fun at the same time and rewarding... eg reward for new awesome armour skins or guild legendary weapon skins.. idk.. feel free for anyone to throw your awesome ideas and views ☺️ ❤️

Guilds are abandoned content, sad but true. The communty kinda brought this down on itself. Creating content for guilds is hard, because there are so many different kinds and sizes for guilds out there. If they make a new mission too hard or requiring 20 ppl, smaller and more casual guilds will temper tantrum because "So ANet is leaving smaller guilds behind again". If Anet made reskins of the existing Missions, like new Bounties or so, most of the guilds won't care enough. Also, since Guilds are core content, they can't introduce Missions to either HoT or PoF maps, which might bring something new to the table.

The opposite is true. There is absolutely no reason not to add new missions which a themed (and require) the new expansions. Just because guilds existed before the expansions does not mean that they can never ADD anything to them which requires the expansions. Characters were "core content" as well and got something "new to the table" with the expansions each time that people without the expansions have no access to.

There are already "missions" in expansion areas. You can take your guild, form a team and go around killing bounties in PoF or finish a meta in HoT. Why do guilds need that extra guild mission reward in order to play as a guild? Being in a guild means being part of a community that does things together, if you want an extra carrot on a stick to play with your guild mates then there something wrong with your guild.

OKok, maybe calling it core content and dismissing HoT or PoF options was a bit much. But I guess you know what I mean. If they start to put new guild missions in HoT or PoF maps, ppl will cry because they feel left out or forced to buy the xpacs.

that's why I thought, they can just discontinue current guild commendations and introduce a new currency and new guild traders (that trades new cool items only obtainable via guild missions interacts), the new currency can be earned via new or old guild missions and guild missions that is cool like mini games vs NPC or etc (sorry I'm not very creative).. most importantly it caters for all levels of skill base and scale up depending on the number of mission participants.. so it can be done in small group of 5 or 3 ..we did current guild challenges with 5 ppl no issues - haven't tried with lower number yet but I hope we don't lose anymore ppl in coming weeks ??

They don't need to do new guild missions coz that would be too much work for the devs.

They just need to give more options to trade commendations, something that you would need a lot in long term so people feel like doing guild missions every week.

Ascended rewards don't motivate enough people these days, everyone and their mother has ascended already.

Current guild missions can be boring but every farm in this game is boring anyway, with the right reward people will do it, boring or not.

I contradicted a post that I deemed unreasonable. What's your problem with me? This thread is about guild missions, not about "missions you can do with your guild".

You call me out for "wanting an extra carrot on a stick" (when I wasn't even the one asking for more guild missions) just because you think that content is not needed. If there is "something wrong" here then it is not with my guild.

I didn't aim that to you personally but everyone that is asking for more Guild Missions. And yes I think the content isn't needed because you can find most of the Guild Mission content elsewhere in the game, from PoF bounties, to adventures (better than races), to challenging group events (found everywhere). The only exception is the Guild Puzzles, there are no other puzzles that require multiple people to be completed. Is there such a great difference between a bounty in PoF and a guild bounty?

But I guess this is the main reason:

What's so great about those anyway?

The difference is that guild missions generally _have_ to be done by the guild. Yes, there are ways around that in most cases, except for puzzles, but that's generally against the design goals.

Stuff you brought up (as well as dungeons, fractals, raids, etc), is _not_ guild content. It's content you can do with or without your guild.

The distinction may be small to you, but is really important for others.

Which is why I had the question, why do you need this specific content, that is only doable by guild members? Other than the unique rewards of guild commendations what is it that makes this one night a week for members to gather so important? Do we really want to be forced to play together, and not play together for fun?

Most players aren't all that good at self-organizing, and would rather have the game provide the guidance for them.

By your reasoning, why even have guilds in game? It's not like players cannot organize in groups on their own, why the game needs to help them with it?

It's pretty much the same principle.

It's not really the same, you can't chat/interact with the same people without being in a guild :)

You can't create a community of friends without being in the same guild and you can't organize and play with them as easily without being in the same guild with them.

It's a matter of communication. But no guild should "require" some forced guild content to play together.

Discord is a thing. So are whispers.

Just as no group of people should requrire some ingame mechanics to be able to organize together. And yet we do have guild mechanics ingame.

It's exactly the same - it's not required, but it helps.

Say they add 5 more missions each to PvE, PvP, WvW. That's great for this month. Next month and three more months, maybe five. But then, all the missions are stale again for those doing them weekly. And we'll want more missions.

While I think more missions would be fun, I can see from ANet's point of view that it would mean committing to yet another area of the game with people (reasonably) expecting updates on a regular basis.

Instead, I think what ANet has hoped for is that guild would do things together in open world and earn things together that way. For example, the Desert Highland Treasure Hunt, Serpent's Ire, and other PoF events are more easily and/or profitably done with a large group. Bounties are among the easiest things to do as a group, and they have similar mechanics to the guild bounties. Doing things in open world is also a great way to advertise a guild and recruit.

Mm I'm not expecting new missions at such pace. ??

I would be happy if they just utilise current g.missions with one new mini guild mission a year.. but the guild traders should be updated to trade new unique skins so to keep reward fresh and a reason for guildies to take part. I don't know how many guilds out there are organising thier own guild activities using existing contents that can get everyone in the guild to join. Most ppl use lfg or community server to get people together. Even so that is dying. wvw guild are doing better I think.. some NA raid guild is doing well too for pve raids. EU raid selling guilds are doing very well actually ?? but I believe ppl come and go more rapidly and doesn't commit. ..

I am glad to say, we still have many core guild members that has been in guild for 5 years.. they are still hanging around but not currently active with guild activity and play casually mainly solo or open world events. It will be nice to see the come back like before.. with many people turn up for guild missions every week :)

Guild is a just a chat room or a holding room in guild wars 2, is the culture here (convenience over commitment), can't change it unless you change the players in the game.

The moment they added cross chat, guild identity become a question and likewise what is the meaning of a guild become questionable. Tons of guilds are created virtually out of nothing and with so many guilds, players simply spread all over places and who knows how many percentage of the players now still contribute to the guilds they are in with that amount of spread.

Anet dismissing the guild development team already show how much they are into guild.

I think there is one thing that most WvW players agree upon (which is extremely rare!!!) and that is that the WvW missions for Dolly Escorts, Land Claims and perhaps Camp Capture (no capture & hold) need to lose their min. requirement of 3 players, especially with linked servers and alliances (if they ever appear). It has been discussed over the past years on the WvW forums.
