ArcDPS question: how fair is it for comparing players?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

since more and more ArcDPS is used in games and raids, people start commenting on other players DPS. I don't know that tool bur have some questions:

1. Does it fair compare single target damage vs AOE damage? For example if one single damage does 7.000, but one AOE 5* 2.000, how is it counted? Who had more damage?

2. Does it fair compare power damage vs. Condi damage? Condi damage might be easily just like 500, but is AOE * 5 and might tick 5 times, so it might add up totally to 5 * 5 * 500 = 12.500?

any hints on that?

You see 2 diffrent numbers 1 for boss and 2 for aoe damage that hit boss and other monsters if there are any.

1 the one doing single damage for 7k would do more damage mate.

2 So your aoe would only do 2500 on said boss not multiply showing scewed damage per second. ( you would see the full 12500 in the second colum if you had 5 monsters total in said aoe and they all survived the full damage cycle tho. )

People usualy only care about boss damage since the adds will die to everyones cleave or necromancers epi anyway.

There is also a site gw2 raidar where you can compare yourself and your group to other players.

Another point is that arc shows boon uptime aswell and if dps is consistently low you might wanna look at boons before kicking dps players.

And ARC can't show exact numbers. It's fairly accurate but it isn't 100% exact especially for condis. There is a list of technical limitations on the website.

On single target vs AOE: AOE doesn't matter most of the time and only single target is relevant. Only times where aoe dps is relevant are probably bosses like xera when trash starts to murder the group.

Other point is probably Wvsw where dps doesnt really say anything but total damage and maybe lethal blows are important.

This.

If you have people putting heavy emphasis on damage meters in WvW, switch server to the opposing match-up for that week and wipe the floor with these noobs. There is a ton of things which are more important than max dps in WvW.

Now that is not to say bad rotations or damage are good, it's just that a pure numeric representation of only damage is way to limited to be of relevance in WvW.
