You don't even clean it first. It's unsanitary. Heck, plasma is supposed to be purple in color and it's clearly still completely caked in dirt if you look at it and you think it's a good idea to just shove it all in your mouths?  Gross. Plot twist: They dug up a truffle and it tripped them out into having all boons, and they only think its plasma because its making them see colors.
