Bloodstone Dust and similar materials could really use a rework

Recommended Posts

[bloodstone Dust](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Bloodstone_Dust), [Dragonite Ore](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragonite_Ore), [Empyreal Fragments](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empyreal_Fragment) and a few similar materials are worse than trash. Trash, at least, can be easily sold to merchants by choosing the "Sell Junk" option when interacting with a vendor. Those crafting materials drop from almost all activities in the game and they cannot be rid of unless we manually select each of them and choose the "Destroy" option. A few other options are equally annoying (such as using a gizmo to destroy a stack once per day). Those crafting materials are more like weeds in our inventory than anything else.

Now, a common reply to this kind of criticism is "just deal with it". Which, other than being a nice example of the ["This is Fine" meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/this-is-fine), fails to see the point: the design decision behind those items is flawed. They have been introduced six years ago and they are still overtuned, dropping from nearly everything while having niche uses and almost no way to be rid of. This isn't game-breaking, but it's a flaw that has lasted long enough.

ArenaNet could fix this by, for example:

* Allowing us to sell those materials to merchants. Just give them the lowest possible gold value (one copper each), so even selling stacks of them would have next to no economic impact

* Turning those things into currencies, used to buy the materials they're refined into (like bloodstone bricks)

* Removing them as drops, increasing the karma rewards from events, and making them available from karma vendors

But really, they have been an annoyance for years now, it's about time ArenaNet does something to solve it.

Turn bloodstone into https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ley-Line_Infused_Tool

if you are a slaker like me, get

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sentient_Singularity

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Star_of_Gratitude

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mawdrey_II

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Princess

Convert to bugs and open on low level character, get t3-t4 mats, would be more coins then a copper per as you offering.

I don't think stuff that is used for crafting can be turned into currency.

I don't really see much reason why the gizmos have limited uses per day, however. They are all account bound, so it is not like I can I could buy a whole bunch to use the gizmo on. All the limited use does is add yet another thing I need to remember to do every day.

It also wouldn't bother me if they were assigned some trivial sell value, just so you could sell them to merchants. As others have suggested in the past, ideally everything should have a some sell value, even if 1 cp, just to make it easier to get rid of.

These mats drop too often for people like the OP, who do certain content frequently. The rate is too rare for those who do not; many actually run short of one or more when they need them.

I have no problem with ANet making adjustments. However, it's a mistake to assume that there's a drop rate that will be "good" for all players.

i've been suggesting this for yearsssss but it certainly feels like am the only one annoyed by these non-sellable items that just pile up for no reasons. make it sellaable for 1c or have an option where we can choose not to receive it...

3-4 years ago there wasn't much content so it didn't bug me... cuz i dont play that much in a day. but nowadays theres so much content, i play like 10-12 hours a day... and these bloodstone dusts, empyreal, dragonites pile up like crazy!!! it's so annoyihng to delete them

ppl suggested eaters... but eaters are not unlimited, plus i dont like clicking on them to buy things and then click more to sort out inventories... plus they dont drop anything good or worthwhile...

This. I am presently okay on all of these items, but I do periodically farm them as I make a lot of ascended armor and weapons. I have, on occasion, found myself short of them, especially the empyreal fragments.

If you don't like using the available methods and prefer to delete the stuff then I guess it's your choice to do so. It's not a good argument to ask for additional uses if you don't use the ones available.

Since we are talking about account-bound materials that are needed for ascended crafting I personally think the droprate is fine. It's supposed to be enough for a large part of the playerbase, not just for those that play hours each day. It also has a very defined purpose and isn't meant to be an additional source of income for those who already play more than average, hence the daily limit on the eaters (which by the way do produce crafting materials and vendor trash for minimal interaction that adds up quickly).

Could they get a vendor price? Probably. That would however make it easier for new/inexperienced players to accidentally sell them, then find out they are short for crafting afterwards. I suspect that's the main reason they are not sellable at the moment (with the secondary reason being that they're not meant to be another unlimited source of liquid gold, which they would be even at 1c per piece/2.5s per stack).

I do wish that these were not account bound. It would help out new players, who are likely the only ones who actually need it (I remember looking for where to get more dragonite ore back when crafting my first ascended). If you do any endgame content at all it’s rained on you — LW map nodes, fractals and even the special event nodes. People didn’t like getting scraps of jute from the first WB rush event but I’d gladly take that over more unsellable junk! I periodically stacks of these from my mats bank so that the stuff will deposit and I don’t have to constantly delete it from characters’ inventory bags.

Gods no. I already have to grind for them to get enough for my crafting. How am I going to make set ascended set number 30 once I spend my current stockpile?

Out of curiosity, what content do you normally play? After my first set or two, other materials were always the limiting factor for me to make ascended gear, never bloodstone dust, empyreal fragments nor dragonite ore. Or maybe you make ascended gear at a much higher rate than I have!
