Icemanfrost.5428
Why is getting upgrades so hard? Why do I need 40 or 100 crafting items why can't I just have my upgrade. This crafting business is very complex, tbh and it's harder for some to grasp it. Should it be changed?

IndigoSundown.5419
Assuming your issue is with the game item "upgrade,' specifically for weapons. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil Individual links for specific sigils list the crafting requirements under the new system, for example... https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_Force If you have a more general issue, and are referring to "upgrading" in the sense of going from an Exotic weapon to a top-tier stat-wise Ascended weapon... https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_crafting If you know all that and are just wanting to discuss whether either (or both) system(s) should be changed... Crafting in any game I've played has been a pain in the ... well, you know. GW2 crafting, which for me would require constant reference to the wiki or a 3rd party how-to page, is a giant pain in the same place. Should it change? I would find a less involved, less expensive system to be more player friendly. That doesn't mean it should change, though. Also, I doubt it _will_ change. ANet has invested too much development in it. They have also invested all but a fraction of the game's reward system in crafting. Crafting materials in the form of drops and salvage provide the vast majority of the game's only _real_ rewards. Meanwhile, all of that complexity and amount of mats are the system that players have engaged with since it was added. Imagine the reaction should ANet make it easier for late-comers. The ship of GW2 is still afloat. Tempests, even tempests in teacups, are dangerous to ships and the waters in this particular teacup are already stormy. Inculpatus cedo.9234
If it's Ascended, there is no higher tier of weapon (except Legendary, but it won't have better stats). If it's Exotic, it's perfectly fine...or you could acquire an Ascended weapon. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_weapon#Acquisition

ButcherofMalakir.4067
Try knight of the thorn storyline/achievment. There is a free top tier scepter/sword/greatsword/dagger/shield as a reward.cost almost nothing.

As far as crafting systems, no its on par of other games and once you understand its heavily based on discovery it flows from there. Have seen simpler and more complex system from other games so I would rank this about in the middle of the scale. I see from your posting history you have been here for a bit but can't talk to what you have or haven't been doing in game. Changes to crafting would lean more toward material storage so that crafters aren't left with subcomponents in their backpacks after doing batches of items and things like having to spend time AFK crafting as things are refined and you have just stand waiting. But as far as the process, between discovery and recipes I think it works well. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

Dayra.7405
Maybe a newbie that want to upgrade its Lvl 5 weapon to lvl 10? Simply buy a new weapon of your dreams in the Trade Post! That’s not only easier, it’s also much cheaper! Crafting isn’t relevant before you are 80 and want to switch your exotic gear to ascended/legendary. Arzurag.7506
Crafting is quite complex and it´s indeed quite the nuisance that you need so many different part-items for just one weapon/armor-piece. But it´s the way it is and it won´t be changed so why bother complaining about it ? The community surely won´t vote for a change.

You don't need to craft better weapons, you can find plenty or buy some off the Trading Post (which has a filter at the top left that lets you choose the stat combo you are looking for). For a level 80 character, you will want weapons of exotic rarity (those with an orange-golden frame) that are also level 80, or ascended ones (which have the same stats as legendary ones, only that they are easier to come by). Ascended are better than exotics stat-wise, but exotics will do for a casual player or someone new to the game. To figure out which stats are appropriate for your profession and build, you can consult this site, for instance: https://metabattle.com/ . P.S. If you ever intend to level any crafting discipline after all, this site will show you the most efficient and economic ways: https://gw2crafts.net/

Hashberry.4510
Crafting is pretty senseless here. Don't try to understand it, just use the gw2crafts site, do what they tell you until its over, and try to forget you ever attempted to reason it out. This is actually true. There is too much discovery involved in lower level gear crafting. A couple of years ago, I had to look up how to craft specific low-level armor in order to unlook its skins. One is pretty much lost without the help of Wiki and other sites when it comes to crafting (among other things in the game which could use an in-game tutorial).
