    >

    > Except lots of those were far far cheaper than the 'eligible' ones. I'm sure it's deliberate on ANet's part.

Most of them cannot be compared to the eligible ones, because they were gained through either actions or special "currencies". For example, the WvW bag cost 350 badges plus 7g. What is the value of badges? It can't be measured accurately, because of the variety of items it can purchase. Same thing with Halloween bags, which cost cobs (ultimately, candy corn).

The most egregious one, though, is the equipment box. The three boxes that "replaced" the equipment box (in the recipe list) are eligible, but the original one isn't. Why?

I can sort of see your point on the oddball bags (event bags, for example). And maybe, if they're in a "screw the players" mindset, the WvW bags. But, certainly not for equipment boxes. I hope it's just an oversight.

And, why on earth are they soulbound?

    > now your thinking and in doing so . I think your find it more easy to get the 32 bags as well . and I can not remember but I think its 10 or 12 slots bags you can sell where you can get some money back from that point on with high slot bags . I also believe after looking at the wiki that using the gossamer bags will be the most way for one to get the 32 slot bags the most easiest of ways possible . far as the other bags you can not sell on trade post . maybe you can sell them to a vendor . I have done that myself . while upgrading to a higher level bag slot count .

You haven't read the details of the recipes, have you?

A 32-slot bag costs a 28-slot bag and some expensive materials (mats). A 28-slot bag costs a 24-slot bag and some mats. And, the 24-slot bags cost TWO 20-slot bags and some other stuff.

So, we're talking about a LOT of money. But, that's not my complaint; I think the price is reasonable. After all, 20-slot bags cost 5 times what 18-slot bags did.

My issue is that only a handful of 20-slot bags are useful to upgrade to 24-slot bags. I have many dozens of bags that aren't eligible. I stopped making 18-slot bags, but I never stopped making 20-slotters. But, a large percentage of them can't be used for the upgrades.

Yeah, I saw that. That's what my post is about: SOME of the bags we already own can be upgraded to 24-slot bags. But, only a small fraction of them. That's a lot of money to throw away. > It does seem that you are correct. But I will probably never use these new bag recipes because the bags are Bind on Equip. I can't see putting that much gold into a character that I might decide not to play at some point.

Soulbound? Yeah, you're right. That much money for soulbound is absurd. I swap bags between characters all the time, to keep them all even.

I don't mind so much having a few bags that are just smaller. But, it's well into 80% for me. I don't understand why they would stick it to their players like this.

  5. I looked over the recipes for bags on the wiki (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag).

24-slot bags seem to be the right size for the next step in bags. And, the price is OK (except maybe for the special PoF-only requirements).

But, am I correct that 80+% of the old bags are not able to be used to upgrade to 24-slotters? There are uses for safe boxes, and for Pact equipment boxes, but not for regular equipment boxes? How about the dozens of pillager's packs and siegemaster's satchels I've purchased from WvW? Halloween bags? Etc.

Are they all lost in no-upgrade-path land?

You're right. I found the FAQ, and sure enough ....

    > Yes, for Deluxe only. You can purchase a Deluxe upgrade in the Gem Store (for, I believe 2400 Gems). If you do this, make sure to choose the Path of Fire upgrade, rather than the Core or HoT upgrade. There's no other way to do so, unless the buyer asked for a refund, and then purchased a different edition and sent the Serial Key.

    > Good luck.

OK, thanks. I'll try to see if I can get it refunded/bought as you suggest. Thank you!

However, I'm going to hold off marking your answer as the answer, in case someone knows another way.

It's the one of a very few ways to get BL chest keys without spending money. So, yeah, it's not enough.

    > > > No other bag is upgradable. 18-slot bags still sell for crafting costs on TP, a lot of people are perfectly fine with them. Given the likely cost of these, you'll have no problems selling your old 20-slots (unless you use account bound ones of course, I do hope they offer some kind of refund/upgrade option for the Fractal and WvW bags!)

    > >

    > > You are correct that bags are not upgradeable. However, that's irrelevant to me. GW1 had runes you could use to upgrade bag sizes. There's really no excuse for not adding it to GW2 if they're already spending a lot of dev effort creating new bags.

    >

    > GW1 Rune of Holding upgraded two 5-slot bags to 10-slot, while not doing anything to the backpack or belt pouch. They were really just a minor speedbump toward max inventory. Seeing as both the rune and the base bags were dirt cheap it's pretty far from GW2s bag system.

See my later post: I'm in favor of making us pay for the slots as they should be, like 10 gold a slot or something. But, I don't want to have to throw away the 100ish 20-slot bags I have now.

    > That's odd to make the same mistake twice. I'm not sure if they're documenting things like this but they really should be just so that this doesn't happen twice. Report it a bug for now and see what happens.

Oh, I'm betting there's a new technical reason. It probably just LOOKS the same, but under the hood it's not. Programming isn't very hard, but keeping track of literally millions of things is a monstrous job. They love doing it, but they're only human; things slip through the cracks.

But, I think they hung themselves by announcing the release too close to the actual release. It didn't give them enough time to hammer out these bugs in testing. I know the devs DO play the game themselves, but in programming, you tend to overlook things you're an expert with. Seriously, it sounds stupid, but it's really true: you can't see the forest because the trees are in the way. I've been programming since the early 70s, and it's always the big projects that have a hard time keeping the bugs out.

    > Here is hoping there is some recipe to upgrade our existing bags.

Yes, please! And, I'm OK with it costing a lot. To go from 18 slots to 20 slots cost 8 gold and some tier 6 materials. Going up another 5 slots should cost at least that, and probably even more.

But, a recipe would be a really cool way to do it.

  12. I have two questions about PoF for people who bought it:

Did they keep the identifying of loot? If so, did they change it to make it more sane (i.e. divide them by rarity)? Also, did they reduce the price to ID?

Are the new maps filled with what I call in-between levels? (For example, Draconis mons had somewhere between seven and eleven levels, depending on how you count them, but the map only shows three.) I realize this could take a few days to figure out, since there will be several maps to check.

    Thank you
