  1. I'm trying to get Realm-Portal Spiker to finish off Shadow of a Shadow. I'm lucky to get one spike each event. So, I read that map hopping was the way to go, to try to get into other instances so I can do the event more often

From what I've seen, it involves simply going to the character select screen then back in. However, I always end up back on the same map instance. I tried bringing up another toon between logging out and back in and got the same map again.

So, am I missing something? Is map hopping actually not a thing?

  2. OK, I've done this meta six or seven times now and I wholeheartedly concur with the OP.

I've gotten four spikes out of those tries. It moves so fast that by the time that I can get to a residue, to the barrel and back to the portal, it's over.

This is going to be a long slog. I don't mind valuable achievements taking time and effort, but this is really pushing it.

    Ugh.

Well, excuse me for not having as much time to play the game as some people and for popping onto the forum every now and then to get information only to have a thread topic in my face giving away the conclusion of the POF story.

    Sheesh.

  4. Last night I bought an adoption license just for the heck of it, out of curiosity to see what I'd get. It was a raptor skin, which is cool and OK but not that big of a deal and I'm glad I didn't spend more on it.

I think Anet could easily offer all of the existing skins from the adoption lottery for straight up sale without problem. I assume they would cost more than the random license. I can't see anyone having grief over another player paying more for the same skin. I wouldn't.

    > So for example, right after Kormir says speechifies, after Sadizi pontificates, or even in the "victory lap" story at the end, after you are greeted by the various dignitaries. On the whole, I'd rather ANet set up too many checkpoints than too few. I don't mind if we can't _reset while in the instance_ as long as when we return, we don't have to listen or go through all the same dialogue and same climbing or other puzzles.

It is astounding that this is not the case.

  6. OP, I share your pain. Just happened to me in both Crystalline Memories and Hallowed Ground. Finished the big fights and while doing the after-fight dialogue I get DCed. Have to do it all over again.

    This is not fun.

I highly doubt it's end user connectivity issues. Too many people are seeing it and you know they don't all have the same type of connection. Also, I almost never have any disconnects except for while playing GW2.

  7. There is already a checkpoint system. It worked pretty well for me in Night of Fires.

However, in Crystalline Memories, I DCed not long after dropping the Facet Guardian and it threw me back to before the fight, so I have to do that all over again.

A checkpoint right after a major enemy is beaten would be a good idea. I can't imagine why we're even having to discuss this. It should just be.

Wow. Silly me, blindly believing the wiki. I did that first story on all my toons to get into VB. LOL.
