Yes, lone wolf playstyle is very much viable. If you're also capturing and defending camps you're definitely helping the team. The only way I can think to cause "problems" playing this way is if you starting scouting as well and your reports aren't detailed enough for players who want someone to blame for their incompetence.
Anyone remember when culling was a thing? Using Veil could make a whole zerg take like 10 seconds for their models to render or you'd have thieves able to backstab players in a group and keep auto-attacking without anyone realizing what was happening.
Rev's old sword #5 (Grasping Shadows) had a bug to pull your target rather than the thing you hit on activation. It worked from infinite range so you could do funny stuff like hitting an ambient creature then pulling unaware players off of walls.
