I find his "gruffness" to be so forced and exaggerated that it's distracting. Having black goth spikey armour big man Rytlock "chewing out" doe-eyed silly-billy Rox with his "i'm strangling myself"-deep voice is just incredible, because you have to really come to terms with the fact that at NO POINT did the VA director stop and ask for something less strained, like someone whose larynx is closing up, and more like someone with character...
  2. Vast majority of the voice acting is Pokemon-level. The girls are quivering cutesies bootsies, or fierce! independent! woah-mans!, while the men all sound like a 14 year old trying to deepen his voice by tucking in his chin. Rytlock, human and norn are the worst offenders. The weird guy sylvari aussie-ish voice is grating at first, but might well be the best because of how absurd it is.

Being cast aside doesn't mean they weren't good, it means they cut corners to meet a deadline. HoT seems to have a vast many half-implemented features that point to this being the case. Even the storyline itself is a meandering mess. Reeks of being culled to push the product out.
  4. Sylvari's the only racial story that's interested me. It's a real shame how these plot threads have been cast aside. It honestly seems like sylvari are done with now. Not just the two missing firstborns, but what about the rest of the firstborns themselves? So much wasted potential. The original plan for HoT must have been great.

And if the forums are to be believed, everyone hates the female characters too, so no one is really winning. Personally I think most of the cast is fine, we just need a more consistent writing team. > > > > Not disagreeing with you about the rest but Trahearne was great. It was a very interesting character, with a good story arc. He should come back as a dragon avatar and bring Vlast with him. And both together help us to defeat the dragons. > > 'Trahearne was great' has not been a popular opinion for the vast majority of the game's history. If the opinion is changing over time in an 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' sort of way, so be it. But leading up to Heart of Thorns, the community was *begging* for Trahearne to be executed for 'stealing the spotlight' (which is something the forum/reddit communities still do regarding... most main characters lol). > > Personally, I didn't mind the character. I thought the voice acting/direction was *horrendous*, and therefore hated having to listen to the character speak (a problem I also have with the female Sylvari PC - sorry Jennifer Hale, love you in everything else). > > While I wouldn't really mind the character returning in theory with a new voice actor or better direction, I am tired of death being a trifle in the game's setting. A lot of major deaths have lost impact because characters simply return as ghosts now. I personally did not like the Commander dying and coming back to life either. I would like death to be more final in this franchise, and characters only killed off when really necessary. They fixed him "stealing the spotlight" in 2014 by having his lines rewritten and rerecorded. He's by and large the best written character in the game now. Shame his death was kinda dumb.
  6. The dumbest thing is mobs spawning from one place, clustering up at another place, then having their immunity instantly drop. It's boring as hell, but worse than that, leads to AOE spam leading to complaints like this. HoT had less escorts and more _actual battles_, which i'm saddened to find is not the case in PoF. We're right back to "stand here and defeat the waves, good job, here's another wave".
  7. Checking for HoT map keys in the currency inventory was always annoying. Really glad they got moved alongside gold and map currency.
  8. Mindcircus put it well. I've been after LWS2 for 4 years, on and off. I really disliked the Personal Story, but found HoT quite fun, and wanted to get the full picture of what's going on. LWS2 doesn't seem to do that... LWS2 is much closer to the Personal Story: lots of meaningless fights with weak mobs, lots of cringe-inducing, poorly directed+written dialogue, but with the admixture of a whole bunch of the unexplained. Who are these people? What are they talking about? Who are they talking about? Why should i _care_? It also suffers from the annoying choices they made between instanced vs open world, where they seem to have at the time made changes to the open world as the chapters were released, but in the instances, the world's different. So the town of Prosperity has a hanging dead Droobert outside the bar and loads of vines impaling villagers everywhere as you're tasked with going around asking survivors inane questions in the open world. Then a few missions later, "Commander, i think the town has been attacked!"
  9. As a 2016 player, i had to look around to figure out why. ANet re-recorded his lines and replaced some of his dialogue around 2014. A lot of why people say they hate him now is because its a phunny GW2 memer. At the time (pre-2014), it seems like he had spotlight-stealing, poorly done dialogue that irked everyone. Now though, he's not really all that bad. I don't mind Trahearne, and from doing the the Sylvari story, i think he's alright. I think 99.9% of the personal story is atrocious, though. As in, of the level i'd expect of a children's TV programme. Truly, truly dreadful writing, characters, storytelling -- all topped off with awful animations. Ugh...
  10. Always find it funny people claiming GW2 is special because of the "horizontal progression" instead of the "grind" of other MMOs. Yet they seem to keep implementing grindy, progression-less junk like this. Is it just to try and devour a fraction of a fraction of the rampant gold in the economy? Or is this what they think players want? Evidently it's not the latter.
  11. > @"Friday.7864" said: > It was so nice when they used to cost 1.15-1.20g > Then trading guilds started using it as currency and the price shot up... > I personally blame Anet for having items worth more than their TP can handle and for not introducing some garbage tradeable trash item with a fixed price to replace mystic coins which the rest of us needs to craft stuff... The real issue is how poorly balanced crafting is as a whole. You need only check your materials storage to see an enormous discrepancy between the maxed out stashes and the nigh-empty ones. ANet take years to sort out straightforward, simple issues (Faction Provisioners, for example); it's safe to say there's no chance of a rebalancing coming out in our lifetimes.
  12. Lots of elites are highly situational, or downright useless. Some specs _only_ have these worthless skills as their elites, but have insanely powerful non-elites. The entire system needs reworking. This would just add to the enormous balance issues.
  13. > @"Hesione.9412" said: > Can I get a warclaw that doesn't get temporarily thwarted by the top step of a staircase? Is that unique the claw? I'm avoiding PoF till i've unlocked the rest of LW, so i'm roaming around on a Warclaw. Figured this was just half-arsed implementation across the board...
  14. I was flicking through the wiki the other day and noticed a removed NPC from when LA was destroyed had a randomised appearance. Maybe that's the way they used to handle NPCs, and she's just been forgotten for an update. Or maybe lots of NPCs are still like that, and nobody notices because not a single NPC is memorable, apart from their idle chatter spam. That's quality armour.
  15. ^ I did the same, till yesterday. Really doesn't take long (~10 mins) if you go through sequentially. I used Dulfy's guide: http://dulfy.net/2015/12/02/gw2-jungle-totem-hunter-guide/ All of them were there, and i specifically remember getting #6 as i noticed the little jutting out vine it's on is on the map itself. Give it another go.
  16. Light fields are the absolute worst - partly because Guardians are so numerous, and they can pop them with just about every weapon set, thus overriding whatever other field is down; and partly because in 99.5% of PvE, all you want is damage, and hardly anything puts enough conditions on you to rely on a random light field cleanse. In WvW, it's hardly much more useful, but comes with the joy of overriding desirable fields. Side note: only just found out projectile finishers only affect allies they pass through after hitting the field. I assumed they did a small blast to those nearby, but nope. What's the point in that?
  17. God a "triangle"? Sheesh. @ everyone else: core maps suck. Amongst countless other issues, they lack life. They're exactly what comes to mind when you think of a meaningless MMO experience. LW2 maps are messy, with too many ideas thrown at the wall in the hopes some of then stick. HoT maps are M C Escher inspired madness in a game with a barely-functional map and compass and camera system. If orienteering was reworked -- and they added some more events to the areas that exist solely for one rarely completed event to yake place in -- they'd be the best maps in an MMO, for sure.
